It is a great scope but I really would suggest you trying one first if you can. Yes it certainly looks better and better at night I think but if you get the chance to try one then do it.
Thankyou David I appreciate you're comment. I will be doing further field test reviews and I will always give my honest opinion and highlighting the pros & cons because I believe it's what people want to hear. Why be biased just be honest is what I say.
Hello Mister Wood, were the images made with the scope itsself? not any gopro mount on it at all? been looking at this video and was just wundering, seeing how much a gorpo mount costs for any of the other normal scopes. price wise it crazy. and if i can be so bold: you listed some pros and cons. Would you consider this a recommendation or would you recommend looking at a different IR scope at this price range. thanks in advance.
Hi. All the images are from the scope so no gopro involved. I only used a camcorder to film myself. This is a great scope and worth the money. If you can find a second hand one then even better as it would be cheaper. If you buy one just make sure it has the latest firmware update on it. The front objective focus ring is abit stiff so just keep that in mind.
Hi Jim. Im using this scope with the supplied IR torch. But im having trouble with the IR. On adjustment i either get no illumination or it totally whites out?. Any ideas what im doing wrong?
@jimwood Hi Jim. I'm using a .223 RPA. I am using the provided Hik bracket and have the mounting point in front part of the scope tube closer to the objective lens. I have tried it mounted at 45 deg to the right if looking down the rifle
@kris308100 Firstly nice rifle and secondly I would invest in an adjustable torch mount. The hik one is ok but I prefer the one I have because you can position the torch better for a better beam. If you look at my video rabbit shooting with the Cz it shows what I mean at the start of the video. I always have the torch on top and the mount is a high optic fire adjustable torch mount.
@jimwood Hi Jim, I will have a look at that. Do you think it's the mount that's the issue, not the torch?. I was told the hik torch was good out to 100 yards.
Hi Jim, hows things I dont know if you'll get this message, but I just got the Hikmicro Alpex A50 T, I've done the up grade to the latest version but it looks different to the one you have in your video 🫣🫣🫣😂 my zoom goes from 3.5 straight to 7, then its single clicks to 14.. so its different ??? Also theres no in-between from 3.5 mag to 7 mag, it just jumps from 3.5 to 7.. is that normal and how the scope works.. if you get to read this then thanks for reading and any advice would be helpful.. ✌️🤟👍
Hi Johnny. Don't worry about the new update it caught me out as well. Basically the way the mag works now is exactly the same as before but for some reason Hik have decided to change the format of the way the mag shows now. It still goes up the same as it did before but it just looks like it jumps from the base mag to half way up the magnification setting. Why they have done this I don't know, so yes it looks different to how mine was but it's not, it's just numbered differently now. Hope this makes sense 👍
Jim it is only on a sub 12ftlb air rifle. Using it on 1 x it is spot on but when I up the zoom on the same target it seems to loose its zero. Maybe I am doing something wrong
To be honest Paul I really don't no. My advice to you would be to contact optics warehouse as they have direct contact with Hik so they would be your best option mate. And when you find out please let me know the outcome as I would be interested to know 🙂
Thanks for the Review Jim, Jim what I am finding is after saving if I go 2 or 4 times mag on a shoot it is not zeroed but go back to 1 magnification and its spot on. Do you need to zero at 1 mag 2mag 4mag? Cheers
Hi Paul. Firstly thanks for watching mate and secondly yes I zeroed mine on the base mag. Now I was only zeroing at 50 yards so I could see the target fine and zooming in it remained the same. Now I haven't tried it on my .223 as yet so I will probably need to go up to 4x mag for this so I will be interested to see how it performs. What have you got yours fitted to?
Hi mate. That is a good question and a tough one, but for me the hikmicro just has the edge and its the one I would opt for if I had to buy one. Not just because its a bit cheaper but personally having owned both I think the picture quality especially at night is better but it's my own opinion. I'm sure there are other people who would choose the C50.
@@jimwood Ant tips on zeroing the digex ? I bought one Lol .I normally have my 22.250 an inch high at 100 yds ,the scope is shooting bang in line but i tried zeroing at fifty as its hard to see the bullet hole ,its four inches low at fifty yards ,my ballistic calculator says i should be 7mm high at fifty .Do i adjust the cross down below the bullet hole 7mm or above it ? Sorry for all the questions
Hi Jim, an excellent review mate, am thinking of getting one myself to mount on the .22mag They are asking $1500 for it, its exactly like yours. Just wondering, what power does the zoom go up to?, I will be shooting bunnies out to 150yds. thanks mate.
Hi mate thanks for that. The mag goes from 3.5 -14× zoom. It's perfect for rabbiting both day and night. Just bare in mind that when you use the zoom one click round takes it half way approx 7x mag and one more click takes it to max magnification. If you're familiar with pulsars c50 you can zoom in and out slowly by constantly clicking the zoom toggle round, wear the zoom on the Alpex is a smooth progression zoom it does it in a couple of clicks. So it starts with base mag then say middle magnification and full power. Hope this makes sense mate.
@@jimwood Ta Jim, that's great.....it seems like you have a endless supply of rabbits. I went out last Saturday and got 5 with the .22mag, that was from 1.30 to 8pm; I thought that was pretty good🤣
No worries hope that helped. And yes I do have plenty of rabbits to go after I'm lucky in that respect, it certainly keeps me busy. I think I would be be heart broken if I only had that many in that amount of time 😂 but its better than not getting any.
Thankyou for your comment. And personally I think the image quality both day and night is slightly better than the C50 just a little more crisp. The build quality is very much the same, they are both solid units so I wouldn't say one is better than the other. I did point out 3 faults with the Alpex which are hopefully being addressed by Hik. But all in all they are both great scopes but I feel the Alpex has the edge on the C50. This is just my opinion and the Alpex is cheaper to.
It all depends on what ir you use. I now use a irlightbuilds laser so I could make out deer to at least 700 yards and foxes you can see at 500 -600 yards.
I would say 300 yards mate maybe further. I will be honest but I haven't actually tried it beyond that distance on a deer. But as its a quite a big animal it should be easy to identify it at that range.
Hi Jim. Good video about the Alpex most informative one I’ve seen. Got mine today looks a lovely piece of kit. Couple of questions. The supplied batteries say ‘non rechargeable’ but you have to put one in the unit to charge up first time am I correct? Then can you charge the second one ? Don’t understand why the say non rechargeable. When you have zeroed the reticule does it re-centre. Asking these questions before I start to set it up, don’t want to bugger it up. Keep up the videos Jim good stuff. 👍
Hi mate thanks for your comment 👍. Firstly I'm not sure about the battery as I haven't used mine because in built in battery is more than enough for what I need. However leave that question with me and I will find out for you. As for zeroing I found the reticle didn't self centralise if you use the first profile (A) but it does with the other profiles. I personally use D and E as I use the scope on 2 different rifles and have no problems with them. I believe hikmicro are looking into doing a software update so hopefully it with sort that issue out mate. When I find out yhe software is being done I will let you know. You may also notice the PIP box may not be quite in line if you use it with the main crosshair but don't worry you can still use the crosshair in the PIP to put on your target and it will still be the same as the central one. Like I said this hopefully will also be addressed in the updates. Hope this helps 👍
@@jimwood its the 18hrs of the ATN4K that's the winner, leave it on all night, I've had mine a few years now, and it's on the Brocock, I've just bought another one for the 17hmr 😎
@@johnallen8618 I agree the battery life on the ATN is excellent and no other unit would touch it. I'm a massive fan of the 4k pro I really am but sometimes one amazing feature isn't enough I.e battery life. Yes it's handy to have and I have used mine over a complete weekend day and night on a single charge. But when you think of how long you're actually using the scope for in total run time, how many hours would it actually be used if you were to add it up? Like I said in the video I wouldn't tell anyone to sell an ATN to get this scope but if you get a chance to trial one, go for it especially at night.
They are both very good scopes but personally I think the hikmicro has the edge and its cheaper. This is just my opinion I'm sure other people may choose the C50 over the Alpex but given the choice I would have the Alpex.
Hi it would be fine for the .243 as my mate uses it on his with no issues. It would be worth checking regarding the .308 as I'm not 100% sure. I will find out and get back to you
Hi John they are just a cheap set I got off ebay a while ago, I couldn't even tell you what make they are. However I am going to be replacing them to hawke 30mm quick release mounts as they are brilliant. I have them on my .223 so I can swap scopes quickly. I also use a picitinny scope mount for the ir torch. Hope this helps.
Absolutely love it. Hopefully hik are sorting out the crosshairs so once it's zeroed the crosshair stays central and not off set. Other than that it's great 👍
@@jimwood that’s the one thing I couldn’t stand with the pard 008lrf I got - I then got the adj mount and chased zero about like a dog with rabbies most weeks. Jacked it in and went back to my nitesite eagle
It stands out better when you look through the scope. At the moment there are 5 reticle choices and colours but hikmicro are going to add more through the app via an update hopefully this month.
Yes mate, you can save up to 5 different profiles so you can switch between rifles if you wish. The profile's aren't numbered 1,2,3,4,5 it shows them as A,B,C,D,E. Thanks for watching 👍
That is a difficult question and personally in my opinion I would say yes. However the hik does have its faults but so does the C50. At the end of the day it's personal preference I'm sure some people will say the C50 is better but for me the hik has the edge.
@@jimwood can I ask a stupid question can you give me advice on scope rings what height would I need I know there 30mm but what lift would I need for the alpex
When it comes to scope rings it really depends on the individual. I use hawke quick release high mounts with all my scopes. And they are all for a picitinny rail. I have never had an issue with them. Some people like the one piece mounts. As for which height mount- low medium or high that is up to you and what one feels the best height when looking down the rifle. Hope this helps
@@jimwood to be honest I got them off eBay it sat A50t mine says soon as you hold the button, the first option is zeroing but looks nothing same as what on the rest of the videos as in the menu I will see if I could upload a video
I'm sure you will be happy with it. But at the end of the day it's personal preference whether you like it or not. I like it alot but the objective focus ring being stiff is the worse part I think which is why I put a fishing coaster on it.
Thanks mate and I have it on good authority that Hik are sorting out the lack of reticles and the zoom function next month via an update which I can't wait to try. 👍

Thankyou David I appreciate you're comment. I will be doing further field test reviews and I will always give my honest opinion and highlighting the pros & cons because I believe it's what people want to hear. Why be biased just be honest is what I say.
Now I am happy with my low tech flip up cover on my Iray)) Good tip/extra function.
Happy days then mate.
Well jim i ordered one today so hopefully be here in a couple of days .
Nice one Steve let me know how you get on with it 👍
Any chance a firmware update will fix the "issues"? Great review👍
The latest firmware has updated alot of the issues. I'm happy with how it performs now so if anymore updates come out I doubt I would install them.
Excellent review Jim, you could get a job on QVC 😂 look forward to seeing the vids. Atb muddy 😀👍
Cheers muddy and yes I will upload some footage soon mate. I have no idea what QVC is unless I'm being thick 🤣🤣

Hi mate. Firstly what rifle are you using and where have you positioned the ir on the scope?
Good review thanks.
No problem and thanks for watching I appreciate it 👍
Hi Jim, hows things I dont know if you'll get this message, but I just got the Hikmicro Alpex A50 T, I've done the up grade to the latest version but it looks different to the one you have in your video 🫣🫣🫣😂 my zoom goes from 3.5 straight to 7, then its single clicks to 14.. so its different ???
Hi Jim what would you opt for if you only had one choice ,the more expensive pulsar digex or the hik micro
Sorry for all the questions
good honest review Jim 👍
Thanks Shane, I'm looking forward to putting it through its paces mate
How long dose the battery last it woukd be great to have an idea
Great video by the way
Hi. They say 12 hours run time and a further 1 hour if you use the extra CR123 battery. Thanks for watching and you're comment 👍
Hi Jim, an excellent review mate, am thinking of getting one myself to mount on the .22mag
They are asking $1500 for it, its exactly like yours.
Excellent video Jim…..where do you stand on it against the Pulsar C50 with regards to image quality, build quality etc….
@@jimwood thanks for taking the time to reply Jim I’m grateful…interesting comments 👌
Your welcome if you have any further questions please feel free to ask. All the best 👍
@@jimwood 👏👏👏👏👏
What distances could you pick game up at and be able to easily tell what it is?
It all depends on what ir you use. I now use a irlightbuilds laser so I could make out deer to at least 700 yards and foxes you can see at 500 -600 yards.
@@jimwood yeah okay awesome mate what about the standard IR it comes with what distances you reckon you could pick deer up comfortably?
Thanks for the reply Jim.
I will get it on my Lithgow 22lr at the weekend and get it set up and zeroed, thanks for your help. 👍
@@Johnnywoo7 no worries let me know how you get on with it. It's easy to zero just follow my vid on how to do it mate 👍
when are you doing the srx on it?
If you check out my other video rabbit shooting using the Alpex it shows some footage of the srx on it. 👍
Nice video, but how does the battery last, compared to the ATN
Thanks mate and the ATN battery would last longer.
@Jim Wood Shooting I can't decide wether to get this or the atn for my .223 what would you say is the better of the 2? Cheerd
They are both great scopes. If I had to choose I would pick the Alpex. But that is just my opinion. You would be happy with either I would think.
How you find it compared to the C50?
They are both very good scopes but personally I think the hikmicro has the edge and its cheaper. This is just my opinion I'm sure other people may choose the C50 over the Alpex but given the choice I would have the Alpex.
Hi I take it the scope is rated for centre fire rules. I have a .243 and .303 that I wanted to use it on. Would it be alright with them?
Hi it would be fine for the .243 as my mate uses it on his with no issues. It would be worth checking regarding the .308 as I'm not 100% sure. I will find out and get back to you
Hi the scope is rayed to 1000g recoil. I don't own a .308 so I don't know what the recoil rating is but I hope that helps.
Impressive! Nice review
No standby button? 👍👍
Thanks and yes it does have a standby button on the power button, just a quick press activates it
What mounts are those please ?
Hi John they are just a cheap set I got off ebay a while ago, I couldn't even tell you what make they are. However I am going to be replacing them to hawke 30mm quick release mounts as they are brilliant. I have them on my .223 so I can swap scopes quickly. I also use a picitinny scope mount for the ir torch. Hope this helps.
@@jimwood thank you 👍🏻
how are you finding it a few months in?
Absolutely love it. Hopefully hik are sorting out the crosshairs so once it's zeroed the crosshair stays central and not off set. Other than that it's great 👍
@@jimwood that’s the one thing I couldn’t stand with the pard 008lrf I got - I then got the adj mount and chased zero about like a dog with rabbies most weeks. Jacked it in and went back to my nitesite eagle
Fair shout if you happier with that mate then that's what you stick with 👍
@@jimwood as and when the firmware upgrades sort it then it will be superb I reckon
Absolutely I couldn't agree more 👍
Is that the best ret there is,it does not look very sharp or does it look clearer in real life.??
It stands out better when you look through the scope. At the moment there are 5 reticle choices and colours but hikmicro are going to add more through the app via an update hopefully this month.
@@jimwood Jim, thank you for the quick reply ,i thought it was my old eyes nor working properly.
@@WEED2207 no problem at all I will use a different colour reticle on my next outing.
great vid jim! - can you save zeros for different rifles? cheers !
Yes mate, you can save up to 5 different profiles so you can switch between rifles if you wish. The profile's aren't numbered 1,2,3,4,5 it shows them as A,B,C,D,E. Thanks for watching 👍
Very simular to the pard 008 and the one shot zero
would you say its better than the c50
That is a difficult question and personally in my opinion I would say yes. However the hik does have its faults but so does the C50. At the end of the day it's personal preference I'm sure some people will say the C50 is better but for me the hik has the edge.
What’s the clamp holding the gun please
It's called a pig saddle you can get them on ebay around £40 they fit gen 2 & 3 primos trigger sticks
@@jimwood cool will look
@@jimwood can I ask a stupid question can you give me advice on scope rings what height would I need I know there 30mm but what lift would I need for the alpex
When it comes to scope rings it really depends on the individual. I use hawke quick release high mounts with all my scopes. And they are all for a picitinny rail. I have never had an issue with them. Some people like the one piece mounts. As for which height mount- low medium or high that is up to you and what one feels the best height when looking down the rifle. Hope this helps
What kind of mounts are you using?
Hawke quick release high mounts
30mm
@@jimwood I mean the ones with rail on top...
.... and on the side for that matter
Tri side rails?
Does it have a built in range finder.......
No only a stadiametric range finder. It would be if the design one which had one built in.

Okay so how is you're menu different? Is it a new scope or have you done a firmware update?
@@jimwood to be honest I got them off eBay it sat A50t mine says soon as you hold the button, the first option is zeroing but looks nothing same as what on the rest of the videos as in the menu I will see if I could upload a video
Yeah if you can upload a video that would help. If you scroll through the menu settings what firmware does it say it has?
So got a video how do I upload
@@adamplumtree64 can you upload it on your channel?
Glad they only minor niggles because I've just put s deposit on one and i can live with them 😊
I'm sure you will be happy with it. But at the end of the day it's personal preference whether you like it or not. I like it alot but the objective focus ring being stiff is the worse part I think which is why I put a fishing coaster on it.
Hopefully hik Will sort out those few niggles with a firmware update, good honest review 👍
Thanks mate and I have it on good authority that Hik are sorting out the lack of reticles and the zoom function next month via an update which I can't wait to try. 👍
