Agreed. too much going on to try to make things SO MUCH BIGGER and Better.. but keeping the run time low (ish). I would have loved to see this be like a 2 part thing to give that character development which was needed in Apocalypse.
As for Dark Phoenix - I was so hopeful to only be crushed within mins watching this. the idea of them going cosmic could have brought in galactus - yet they tried to do something really different.... but nope you are right they did not want to do any of that.

Oh lemme explain about Jean “dying” in Dark Phoenix. She actually didn’t die at all, but some people thought she did because she basically exploded😅 Her human body was destroyed because she was being reborn and evolved into the Phoenix Force! That’s also why Jessica’s character told her that it was her “destiny to evolve into the greatest force in the galaxy.”

You know what makes Xmen apocalypse better? Watch the opening to Dark Phoenix, and as soon as it cuts to the title card; turn it off and then watch Xmen Apocalypse! Not only does it make sense chronologically, but it makes Charles and Jean's relationship and mind battle with Apocalypse so much more meaningful. And also, there's no mention in Dark Phoenix's opening of Charles messing with Jean's mind; that was only addressed during the Cerebro scene! Xmen Apocalypse is a lot better now as a result.

If we go off this logic, Dark Phoenix is no longer canon, making Xmen apocalypse the true finale for the mainline team. Charles encourages Jean to "Let go" of the constraints holding back the Phoenix inside her to defeat Apocalypse; perfectly contrasting Charles subjogating Jean's Phoenix persona in the previous timeline. I like to interpret the "Let go Jean" line as a direct reference to the OP Phoenix powers she used during the car crash!

I don’t really mind that way of thinking. It’s a real shame that this was the direction they went afterwards. Such a jumbled mess

@@AndrewPahl22 Completely agree. Between the events of Xmen Apocalypse and Logan, they should have been making multiple spin off movies with the sinister Essex Corporation spawning subsidiaries such as Transigen in the background; all to suppress the X Gene. Not Dark Phoenix🤦‍♂️
