The problem is we're known for shellfish, and mumbo sauce is a cultural thing. Gloves aren't used by most chefs, but the handwashing, reused oil, and lack of customer service holds no excuse anywhere.

He complained that many Washington DC restaurants, promote alcohol sales.. well.. duh (they're restaurants not McDonald's). Keith Lee didn't want to admit, he was too cheap to pay upto $8 for another beverage option.

Lets be honest. If Keith Lee wanted to find good food in DC, that'll be easy. However, the restaurants with good food in DC absolutely do not need his help.
That was my first thought too. When he said Keith left New York (the city with over 3.3 million foreign born immigrants, pre-2020, from over 150 countries) hungry . He has a very small pallet and you can't be a food critic with a small pallet, allergy or no allergy. It seems as though he has a very particular niche of reviewing very specific types of food from certain places, everybody already kind of knows won't be top-notch. And that's about it.

People have been doing what Keith Lee does on TH-cam for years, even pioneered it. Daym Drops is someone who has reviewed food on TH-cam for over 12 years. I think Keith Lee’s notoriety is interesting especially since he’s reaching different heights I’ve never seen a food reviewers career go. TikTok really has a chokehold over this generation and the way people quickly consume content, get bored, and skip to the next reel. Keith Lee completely took advantage of this and succeeded where most food critics failed. People have been reviewing food online for a long time, its only now that people who mainly use TikTok have found this content and are so deeply connected to the reviewers and their content.

There are certainly restaurants offering different kinds of cuisine that don't focus as much on alcohol, but he doesn't tend to eat those kinds of food. He's a normal guy, not a food critic, so there's no reason for him to be trying food that he has no experience with just so people can get mad at him for not knowing what he's talking about like when Gordon Ramsay made Ramen and got cooked. As someone born and raised in DC whose family has lived here generations, there’s plenty of places I go to that don’t serve drink and have great food. But I found out I about them from word to mouth. You not gonna find them looking up the best places to eat online. The hate is undeserved though.

He tends to stick to places that are smaller and less well known. Most of the really good places in nyc are either hugely popular or are cuisines he has no experience with.
The reason he had been so successful; is the reason you wouldn't want him to be a food critic. Those limited dishes he tries, are enjoyed by 90% of the country. The people that want him to try other dishes or say that he's too limited don't understand business. If you're trying to make the most impact in someone's business; you need to grab the biggest audience. Most people don't want to try new food they want good food they know. If someone wants to go after niche dishes, they can start their own food review channel.

It’s fine for him to have his own niche focusing on the “same foods.” No one is forcing anyone to watch his content. I agree that he’s doing a great job supporting many businesses. However, as a consumer, I prefer honest reviews before trying new places or making purchases. When I travel, I always check reviews first. Personally, I’m not a fan of the “Black-owned” slogan because it sometimes gives the impression that success should come without prioritizing customer service or good food. I support Keith Lee and what he’s doing.

The problem is we're known for shellfish, and mumbo sauce is a cultural thing. Gloves aren't used by most chefs, but the handwashing, reused oil, and lack of customer service holds no excuse anywhere.

I think Keith Lee’s notoriety is interesting especially since he’s reaching different heights I’ve never seen a food reviewers career go. TikTok really has a chokehold over this generation and the way people quickly consume content, get bored, and skip to the next reel. Keith Lee completely took advantage of this and succeeded where most food critics failed. People have been reviewing food online for a long time, its only now that people who mainly use TikTok have found this content and are so deeply connected to the reviewers and their content.

As someone born and raised in DC whose family has lived here generations, there’s plenty of places I go to that don’t serve drink and have great food. But I found out I about them from word to mouth. You not gonna find them looking up the best places to eat online. The hate is undeserved though.

Would it really though? If every human in this world embraced the mentality to ‘let others be and only worry about me’, I’m certain that we’d end up with a world that has strayed from standards implemented to maintain a high level of order, structure, and purity.
This self-centered mentality would incite, promote, and permit humans to live howsoever they choose without correction. Given that humans are flawed, they will naturally make ill-informed decisions, exercise poor judgment, and/or succumb to greater evils.
Though we cannot control what another human opts to do, we could at the very least, gently urge each other to be better as opposed to turning a blind eye and saying to ourselves ‘if it ain’t concerning me or mines, idc.’

It’s fine for him to have his own niche focusing on the “same foods.” No one is forcing anyone to watch his content. I agree that he’s doing a great job supporting many businesses. However, as a consumer, I prefer honest reviews before trying new places or making purchases. When I travel, I always check reviews first. Personally, I’m not a fan of the “Black-owned” slogan because it sometimes gives the impression that success should come without prioritizing customer service or good food. I support Keith Lee and what he’s doing.
3:45 = every city should have at least 10 to 20 places you can eat at for reasonable prices. NYC is a very large city and it doesn’t matter which borough you’re in, you’ll find good food. 10 to 20 good places per city is the bare minimum. Mr Keith is doing a great job

Keith also did step outside of the food you mention him eating before when he tried out Jamaican food from a restaurant before and actually recommended folks to go try them out awhile back iirc.

Think: if a restaurant was popular BEFORE Keith Lee, then that means the paying customer is CHOOSING to go back. Yes when he does a positive review it can greatly impact a business but the opposite can be said as well. Having your business being determind by one content creator is a scary world to live in.
