The beauty of this isn’t just the enthusiasm and natural ease of the teaching method. It is the David Gilmour like instilling of not a wasted note nor wasted space and the Gandalf like wizardry of fingers not being in an unnecessary hurry but arriving precisely when they mean to. It is so nice to see a real blues sound without all the speed picking fluffery of some modern teachers on the intergooglewebnets. Love you man.
I absolutely LOVED that! (I can't do most of it, but it's the kind of thing I want to watch / listen to). You're so British, Dave...lol Somebody else on here said "...keep teaching...it's your calling...". I think they're right.
I won't give my bodily age, but I saw Rory at Southend Kersal In 1974, front row when that man could generate enough renewable energy to power a small city for a month. I've got Dave's first blues lesson under my belt and am now working on the second. I am so grateful for these fantastic tutorials and posts. (note to Andertons Music co). We oldies have money to spend on nice shiny things so look after Dave Simpson well - we buy stuff because of him. Thanks again Mr S! ...Could have been '73 now I think of it.
I like this kind of tutorials! I‘m a noodler with almost no musical theory, old lazy fart just searching on the fretboard what hopefully sounds good. If I get some licks shown, watching the fingers on the fretboard, it helps me a lot... From there I start to alter and modify, playing the notes in different order, or change the emphasize, or mix them with other half licks. Teaching skills of Dave are superior! Slow enough for a greenhorn to follow, but never boring, peppered with advises! Alakitalot!!!😃👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
I am 65 and just learning electric guitar. I think learning from Dave will surely give me a freedom to explore myself and doing all sort of improvisations. He gave me enough materials for being a wanderer and enjoy every moment of my exploration time. He is an excellent teacher!
I'm going to save these tutorials up for when I retire in August - looking forward to having time on my hands to learn these gorgeous and tasteful licks. Rock on Dave, you are an inspiration.
Bom!🙏 Thanks Dave, you're a Top Man with a wonderful gift. 🎸🎖 You have a real talent for communicating, explaining and demonstrating the beauty and essence of music. Pure brilliance. I had a 'light bulb' moment whilst watching these two parts, as other's have said. 👍🎸😁😁 Thanks Dave, keep bringing the joy. Love your work ❤️👏👏👏
Dave! There are many amazing guitarists in the world, yet not all of them can translate emotion. You Sir make that guitar sing, scream, and cry, making it impossible to not be hypnotized by your talent. You Rock, Dude!
I saw Dave was going to speak some knowledge and was here immediately upon seeing this title. Because that's what you do when one of the best players in the world offers advice.
I LOVE playing the blues! I think I subconsciously absorbed blues guitar from my father playing Clapton records from the time i was a baby. I think its fantastic that you are teaching this form of music for a new generation to help keep it alive. Good on you, Dave!
I cant even tell you how much I absorb from you. I think melodically we hear the same .now if I can just play you I'll be good but honestly you've made me a guitar player plus the thousand hours I put in the last year. You really dont know how many lives you made better.
Dave I can't even count how many times I've watched this series. It is by far the best teaching video I've seen on TH-cam PERIOD!!! PLEASE KEEP DOING THESE KIND OF VIDS
I'm 6 months into playing and, be dammed, I'm determined to learn how to play the blues. I can't thank you enough for these lessons! It's taken me a couple of weeks to get through the first lesson and now I'm here. You're a great teacher and these lesson are fantastic and a ton of fun to play. Keep up the great work!
Hi Dave, every-time I watch one of your video's I get another little nugget of knowledge or a riff that I can practice and add to my playing, thank you this keep up the good work.
Once again, thank you thank you thank you for taking the time to show and teach us these blues tunes Dave. Pure soulful Peter Green and Paul Kossoff style licks. Excuse the old hippie style jargon- but, Man..!. I can't WAIT to get started. You' ve helped me so much with my playing, you really have. The first time I realised that, here I was, ME!! playing a passable piece of music in the style of my two All time favourite Guitarists, PG and PKssff I had a smile like a Cheshire cat! And it's all down to your good self. When all this crazziness is over, I would love to offer a heartfelt humble handshake. Keep rocking Dave, and genuine respect and much appreciation from Ayrshire Scotland.
Hi Dave, a little off topic but I really enjoyed your Anderson's interview. You really spoke like you play... From your heart. One of the best interviews of top players they have done. On with the lesson...
Loving this. I probably won't play it as such but every move Dave gifts, once the theory snaps in place, lends new avenues of creative inspiration that grow into, and add to the vocabulary when doing our own thing. Respect to you Dave, you are a true Head!
Completed the first lesson today will be straight onto this lesson, it's great to be able to improvise on this and give it your own feel, much appreciated Dave you are a mean player.
Dude you know I've waited for this one, saving this for my first day off shift! Thanks in advance man and very much looking forward to practising this and gaining some of your knowledge! All the best!
AH THE BLUES and Dave TOGETHER what a combination....brilliant...part one was awesome will check out part two tomorrow when i'm more awake..cheers Dave
I love your sound. It is exactly what I want to hear. If I can play this it gives me great pleasure. Thanks for putting it out for us all. Nothing like the feeling of slow blues 💙.
We getting free blues lessons from one of the best blues players today... so it's ok if it's a little wrong because you're taking your time to explain it well which will help the people haven't played as long. I've played a long while so I get all of this really fast but your a great teacher and you realize everyone learns at a different pace. So if it's to long for someone they can fast forward it or something because I'm sure that you will eventually get to something that is hard for me and I will need it slowed down too.
Hi dave, what can i say. Im old and slow so this is perfect! Been messing about on guitars for the best part of 50 years, only practice was when i had 5 mins due to life commitments(kids!) So progression has been... slow! Ive always liked blues style, mixed with rock and country! If its musical ill listen to it! Classic as well but not quite as much. all this borne out of being told as a kid id never be able to play properly(axed my left index finger at 5 years old,so the top end doesn't bend!)so being stubborn i chose the guitar over my other fave sound the clarinet, acker bilk being the one i remember most. Got to this point where i now have a fender strat starcaster(not the original!)which for me plays beautifully, all set up work done by myself, and a...wait for it... glarry tele copy, purchased with the intention of it being a lab rat to further my set up ability, reshaped the headstock, traced a friends 60's tele, and decals just for fun. Now have two different guitars that play ok for me,the index finger now has some arthritis and swelling giving me another hrudle to jump. Im going to practice all you teach here and as you say see where it goes! You my friend are a breathing, speaking instruction manual that doesnt mind giving us oldies a chance to shine in our own way. I have no wish to be a fretboard wizard(ill leave that for you!)just want to improve for my personal enjoyment! Thank you for your time and patience explaining how and why. Good health to you,oh and the trio is a joy to watch and listen to!Derrick.
Fantastic. You are an inspiration. Not only have you got me learning the blues with more structure but also with more feeling about how the tune is going, rather than scale noodling. Also your lessons are great inn bringing in other notes outside of one scale position, it's helping to bring it all together. Cheers.
Have to tell you how much I'm enjoying learning through you Dave, absolutely loving the content and delivery, can't thank you enough for taking the time to put these together for us people of the toob!
Dave, I loved part I, and was hoping for a part II. I'm 34, never had a single guitar lesson, been playing on my own since I was 15/16. Your 'play like Green/Hendrix/Gallagher' series made me realize how much better off I would have been if I did get lessons in the past. But this is it. I wait on your vids, I wait on your lessons, you are my teacher and you don't even know it. And a great one at that! I steal licks from you (or try to) and try and get better. Mental health has always been an issue for me, since I was, well... 15/16, and music, and guitar and guitarists make it bearable. I will be waiting on part III. I will be practicing on merging the first and second lessons and I will be, if not happy, a lot more content, because of you. Because the time and effort you put on these. Cheers, from Brazil!
Great video Dave! Thank you so much for doing this for us all. Looking forward to all the future one's also. Cheers!! John Russell (74 year young Rocker now in a rocker ;) in the U.S.A.(Born in Portsmouth U.K)
Another amazing wonderful engaging and entertaining lesson, Dave. Thank you so much. Getting more from these sessions than I have anywhere else, either virtual or face-to-face. Timing is great too - enough between them to nail it without getting sick of it! Looking forward to the next one already.
Been looking forward to this, i used episode 1 to write a nice wee bit of blues but got stuck for something to end it with so hopefully this will help. Ps everytime i see that Oswald i get man moist, best looking strat ever!
I have learned what you call "postion one" as "Box A" the next one up the fretboard "Box B" and so on until you reach "E" the last one before the octave which is the same as "Box A". Its actually all the same pentatonic scale (and the ususal passthrough notes) with different starting tones if you always start at the low E string to me. What really makes the difference is those intervals one uses in between those "licks". At the moment I am trying to figure out a way for me to hit the right notes just from "by my ears" with out thinking anything. You inspire me a lot without me really understanding what you do and how. Thats funny and cool.
Rory Gallagher definitely I found out about him buy someone saying my playing was sounding like him so I was like hmm let me see who that is lol then I find out jimi Hendrix thought of him as one of the best players. Which I do some Rory like stuff , I play slot of heavy metal and classic rock but I have been falling in love with the blues. I live bluesy shuffles too but the bending of strings making your guitar cry is where it's at. So keep these lessons coming bro , alot of guitar players who are use to playing fast and being flashy have a hard time slowing it down.
Great timing Mr S... Was already playing guitar and up popped your second Blues lesson played along this time really enjoyed it... Need to work on my Peter Green lick a bit more... Looking forward to seeing the next installment!👍☺
keep teaching dave its your calling.
Very true. His Unlocking the Neck video has been invaluable to this complete newbie. 😊👌
Playing guitar is his calling and we are lucky enough he’s gonna chuck in a few lessons for us .
The beauty of this isn’t just the enthusiasm and natural ease of the teaching method. Ha. I was just this afternoon thinking to myself “I wonder what happened to part two of Dave’s blues lesson?”. Dave provides.
The only account that i have the bell turned on
Dave, you are an amazing teacher. Please don't stop teaching and sharing your gift with the people who need and appreciate your talent.
I absolutely LOVED that! (I can't do most of it, but it's the kind of thing I want to watch / listen to).

I’m so mesmerized by that guitar I missed the whole lesson. I have to watch again. 👍☮️🌞🌟🎸🎵❤️

There's many of us mate! Hang in there.
I got another 45 years of working lol, shit sucks
I love you Dave. You have no idea how helpful and inspirational you are.
Part 1 was the reason i subscribed!!! thank you
Finally! I've been waiting a long time for this second part of the lesson. Thank you, my friend.
Bom!🙏 Thanks Dave, you're a Top Man with a wonderful gift. 🎸🎖
You have a real talent for communicating, explaining and demonstrating the beauty and essence of music. Pure brilliance.
I had a 'light bulb' moment whilst watching these two parts, as other's have said. 👍🎸😁😁
Thanks Dave, keep bringing the joy.
Love your work ❤️👏👏👏
Dave's the best! (But don't tell him, he thrives on self-doubt)
💚
Dave is the "Woody Allen Lite" of guitar: all the talent, without that creepy aftertaste.
Thanks Dave been waiting for this! You're a great teacher. Thanks for everything you do!
Dave! There are many amazing guitarists in the world, yet not all of them can translate emotion. You Sir make that guitar sing, scream, and cry, making it impossible to not be hypnotized by your talent. You Rock, Dude!

Dave I can't even count how many times I've watched this series. It is by far the best teaching video I've seen on TH-cam PERIOD!!! PLEASE KEEP DOING THESE KIND OF VIDS
Learnt so much from these videos, i can't recall anyone else talking about giving solo's space and leaving room for them to breathe, well done Dave
After being absolutely blown away by part 1, I subscribed.

With the guitar that I love! This made my day Dave!
You'll know then! Is it an ebony neck or something? The black fretboard and black headstock are gorgeous!
@@davedavem all rosewood. There's a Dave-reveal vid fairly recently on it, that I can't link cuz URLs are auto deleted.
@@PaulCooksStuff wow, beautifully dark rosewood!

Very cool solo, my man. Im loving it. Much more dramatic with the low string 👍🏻
Using one of your catch phrases to describe what these awesome lessons mean to us..... "This is Immense". Thank you Dave!👍😎
Still watching and progressing. Makes a lot of sense to me now. Thanks so much.
These two videos have taught me alot. Thank you for posting Dave!
I just found this and DAMN! I am having so much fun with it. Thank you, thank you, Dave... it. does. not. suck!
