i went to diamond mine about a week ago and had just as much fun! i didn't find a peace of smokey quartz but i did find A LOT of skeletal quartz and I found an amethyst. Diamond Hill is a really great spot for beginners or experts to go mining

A new name: Paleo Crystal! Too funny! The crystals are gorgeous, love that smoky crystal best! You guys are really branching out, going on road trips just to play in the cold rain! The stream footage was beautiful. Another great video!

Nice! We also had a great day recently....actually moved from central Pennsylvania to about a half hour outside of diamonds hill JUST because of all of the great mining in upstate south Carolina....picked our lives up just to mine more often.

A good soak in some citric acid ( lemon juice and water ) or C.L.R., will remove a lot of the clay staining so you can get a good look at what you've found. Pretty crystals guys!
PaleoCris, I leave mine in the solution for several days, checking them periodically and using a very soft and worn out toothbrush to gently brush them. If you use citric acid, brush and then soak in a solution of baking soda to neutralize the acid. Good luck. Enjoyed your video.
So, you find these pieces of Quartz, and then what do you do with it?.. keep it? Sell it? turn it into something? Would be cool if you could make something awesome from your finds :)
I did around 6 hours in this mine.. with shovel.. I came out with a lot more quartz than those shown here after finding a particular vein where rain had gone into the dirt, was FILLED with quartz ... starting to post some on facebook.com/TryATent
We have some JXR vids coming up soon! Personally, I liked JXR more and can't wait to go back...but I'd like to try some hardcore digging at Diamond Hill like we did at JXR just to see what we can find.
Any tips on how you were digging I know I noticed you pulled a good bit of amethys out for sure. I'm going to do some hardcore at diamond hill in about a month they have good amethys and smokey there it's just harder to find
This was my first time hunting there, but we were basically just getting a hole going with a straight wall on the side and shaving that wall inch by inch with shovels turned backwards or mattocks. We were choosing spots by looking very closely at the ground for small crystals eroding directly out of the sediment. I think this method would be more difficult if there were a lot of rocks like in Diamond Hill, but probably also effective. You can move a ton of dirt in a day working a spot like we did. Good luck!
