These books - especially the first three - make me want to cry, as they had some of the best moments of my life, and i just haven't been able to laugh that much ever since.
When you mentioned the rock concert all I could think of was Dethklok. So I'm going to go ahead and headcanon the idea that Metalocalypse takes place in the Hitchiker's universe!
The fact that they're flying into the center of the sun is actually a Pink Floyd reference. It's a reference to "Set the Controls to the Heart of the Sun".
The title, "The Restaurant at the End of the Universe Examination" made me think that SFDebris was now doing health inspections for fictional restaurants.
Well unless I'm missing something you're correct it's Survivor. Black and White pops up as this. th-cam.com/video/Mtiaq76dz1g/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=LIMORecordingStudio
As someone who's published four novels I can tell you that plotting backwards to write forwards, i.e. writing towards an already known end is far more common than you might think. (3 of mine used that technique and the one I'm currently writing does as well) To be honest I tend to have half a dozen scenes that I know I want to write and use those as, well... signposts, ones which point me in the way I want to go but don't preclude me heading off the beaten track if the characters have different ideas to, well... mine. (yes I know it sounds schizophrenic but that's the breaks when you're trying to juggle a score or more of different characters and give them unique voices and personalities.)
Let me clarify: Douglas didn't PLOT it backwards, he WROTE it backwards. He wrote the last chapter first, and then proceeded to the front of the book, writing each chapter as he went.
Michael Moorcock when writing his Elric stories claims he wrote most of that series backwards, saying that after the initial short stories he killed (no spoiler intended) the Elric character off in his first full novel. Being that Elric got so popular he wrote more stories as Mike himself put it "taking place before he died." Just goes to show they're many a-different ways to construct stories. Sometimes its start to finish, other times it's connecting individual images & events as logically as possible. PS- Moorcock is a huge catalogue to tackle review-wise, as big as the multiverse itself.
I am picturing these drawn mazes. Often it is way easier to trace the end point towards one of the many entrances to the maze. Hmm... creativity often works similarly. I am passionate about music production tho. Not writing per se. In fact, lyrics and vocals are one of my weak points for sure. Anyway I digress. I wonder, if this type of strategy is implementable in music. But how would that work? In music you tend to build onto small ideas and something bigger emerges. Different parts working together to make a whole. I guess the creative process does have its differences in different fields. 🤔
I found And Another Thing decent, but Arthur and Ford felt a bit out of character. It was better overall than the Hexagonal Phase that just was on the radio recently in the UK. The Quintessential Phase wrapped most stuff up nicely already, I felt. Also, will there be anymore Battlestar reviews?
I feel compelled to point out that at 12:44 you say "Martin" nice series of videos tho. (must be the dislike of the movie, and the Arthur av Martin Freeman that makes that "Martin" instead of Marvin really sting.)

Me too 😢

Morbos1000 As awesome as it sounds, the band was named in the book. An alien band called Disaster Area.

For me, the funniest thing is that I remember nothing about this book, even though I read it right after the first book that I DO remember.
exactly, even if the second is good enough do not have a great plot

Also the SFDebris cameo for Linkara's 500th episode was delightful.
You sir are clearly one who forgets their towel if you assumed that.
Oh, no, a whole bureaucracy will grow up around this!
Especially since the inspectors will be able to work-from-home during the pandemic. 🙄
Welcome back on youtube :)!
What song is the theme of these book reviews?
👍 Yes, Chuck please tell us!
Survivor by Keith LeGlue
I think it's Black and White. It's listed at the end of the video.
sfdebris this is why I should be careful using audio recognition software.

I see this is book 2 of 6. Are you also going to be doing "And Another Thing…" by Eoin Colfer?
That's the plan. :-)
I'm looking forward to it! One of my favorite trilogies.

Honestly, I enjoyed it better than I did "Mostly Harmless". Felt like Adams was having a bad year.
Well, the radio series capped that nicely, with a new ending to the book.
Am I the only one that finds it odd Chcuk uses the same intro music here he used for World War Z? It just doesn't seem to fit.
Kevin Allen He uses it for every book review

So long and thanks for all the amphibians

That question & answer made my math skills better at least.
