Theme music composer Edd Kalehoff had to rework the title theme for the "PBS NewsHour" and "PBS NewsHour Weekend," now retitled as "PBS News Weekend" omitting the "PBS NewsHour" in view of their shorter duration since 2022, as the original theme by David Cebert and Bernard Hoffer is the title theme from "PBS NewsHour" we're familiar with. AND it does reminds us of the theme for "Nightly Business Report" which Edd Kalehoff also composed, and it aired on PBS stations right before "PBS NewsHour" came on until "Nightly Business Report" ended its near 41 year run on the air on December 27, 2019.
I don't think composers should rip off their own theme songs too much (IE Nightly Business Report, but that's only the headline bed), and I'm not a fan of the trilling strings building up to the main theme reprise (it sends shivers up my spine), but this is still another fine Edd Kalehoff composition befitting of such a distinguished news program. And it's about time someone did their best work in uploading the full theme.
0:22-0:23 0:24-0:25 1:02-1:03 1:04-1:05 1:06-1:07 1:08-1:09 That sounds like the 2002 theme of Nightly Business Report and Judge Mills Lane theme song (R.I.P. Judge Mills Lane) and that also sounds like the DC Comics Superman theme and the theme of Monday Night Football 🏈 and NFL 🏈on FOX, now that is 🎵 🎼🎶🎼🎵🎺 to my ears! 👂
This is such a great orchestration by Edd Kalehoff. However, the audio engineer(s) goofed up and this is another case study example of how NOT to mic the French Horns. Always can tell when they're positioned behind the bells of the players. The result here is a raspy, stuffy and muffled sound that doesn't "sing" especially when they double the string line. The resonance and overtones are completely lost. That's why studio sessions in movie and TV soundtrack or professional orchestra recordings always place them in FRONT of the section in an elevated position. It captures the overtones that make for the characteristically beautiful, reflected and burnished acoustics of the instrument like you hear in live orchestral performances. It is the real horn sound.
Whenever I think of this theme, I think of Judy Woodruff and the late Gwen Ifill
God Bless This Dynamic Duo, R.I.P. Gwen and Thank You
Yes
I’m sitting alone with my thoughts … and, in tears, by hearing this composition.
I only wish more news themes carried this kind of majesty and pride.
This theme has so much potential.
And it sounds beautiful
They put pride and JOY into that theme

The PBS newshour and PBS news weekend in Washington DC
technically it is the newshour theme but this was used in the credits

2015 theme version of Newshour reminds me of 2002 theme of Nightly Business Report
They totally wripped off the classic NBR theme.
I was JUST going to say that.

The old theme was so much better
