Apedale will be very different to War & Peace (as it will be focused on the First World War theme) & smaller - but with much more railway! It was my first visit to W&P this year - the sheer size of it was incredible. I heard (not sure if correct - but can believe it!) that there were 7000 visiting preserved military vehicles of all periods upto the present day from all over Europe. ~180 WW2 Jeeps alone!
Thanks Paul - the loco & wagon were provided from the Apedale Valley Light Railway in North Staffordshire. Watch out for their own First World War commemoration event in September next year (Tracks to the Trenches - 2014) - heavily focussed on these WW1 light railways! A Google search will find the details....
We sent a re-engined First World War loco as it is simple & reliable to use. Vintage petrol engines are fragile and can be temperamental - not what you really want at a remote show - well away from our workshops & staff. Our petrol locos remained at Apedale. If you are interested to see original petrol engined First World War locos running - please visit the "Tracks to the Trenches" event (search for it on Google) next year, there should be plenty of original petrol action!
Nice one... You probably remember me... I asked if I could film from the wagon... you said no !! fair enough... damn health & safety rules !!! Impressive display.... well done.
Im a member at froissy and leighton buzzard and i have driven and started more than one 20hp petrol simplex and one or two 40hp petrol simplexes including your own. they are perfectly reliable in my experience. As for the tracks to the trenches i wouldnt miss it its the only chance we are realistically ging to get for a few years to get together all the various classes of ex WD locos.
Hi Paul, I am also one of the volunteers at apedale who continue to look and care for these loco's at apedale, hopefully our event will be good as the war and peace event which has just passed, Hope to see you next year making a video on our 3 day WW1 gala.....cheeers, Nathan
nice vid, shame that the Simplex wasnt petrol powered like Festoon at Leighton Buzzard but still very nice. But if you want the real atmosphere you have to go to The Froissy-Cappy-Dompierre railway which is actually on the somme battlefields.
Only a idea, have a circle of track if possible, give rides around, raise money for your group, fantastic display, look forward to next year if you are there.
