oh my godddd, dystopian authors always draw from the present. they critique modern society by taking it to the extreme. Farenheit451 critiques the growing trend of book banning (i think also inspired by the n*zis) by creating a society in which books are illegal all together, the hunger games was a critique of reality tv, celebrity culture and the ultra-wealthy having no morals or empathy, The Handmaid’s Tale was an exploration of the injustices women already face being taken to an extreme that we could see in society. The point of a dystopian is that the groundwork already exists in our world, it’s just grown to show the true issues that arise with it
Could we simply take a breath and acknowledge the fact that: - The Met Gala is a fundraising event to raise funds for the MOMA's Institute of Costume History, and is in that sense primarily about celebrating fashion as a tool of self-expression. - The themes for each year are chosen to allow the guests (who buy their ticket, since this is a fundraising event) to create the most ostentatious and visually pleasing outfits, in celebration of fashion and costume history. It's the one event where going all out is required, not "a sign of excess". - This year's theme was "Garden of Time", a short story about a group of elite people who awaited the coming apocalypse in a sanctuary. - This argument comes out every Met Gala. It completely misses the point of what's actually going on in order to make a faux-intellectual point and cast these celebrities as super villains. It's boring. Come on. - Speaking of missing the point, this particular Met Gala was marred by the fact that Ann Wintour orchestrated this one to be a "comeback rally" for designer John Galliano, who has frequently come under fire for his disgusting and virulent antisemitism, including screaming at Jewish women in Paris that he "loves Hitler" and wants Jewish people dead. He provided outfits for multiple attendees this year, including Ariana Grande. Seriously, if you want to criticise a fundraising event for preserving history, criticise what's *actually* heinous and not what looks "odd". You have brains, don't you?

NAH CUZ THEY FR HAD A PINK DOG JUST LIKE IN THE MOVIE 💀
true
I keep saying that the met gala looks like the capitol from the Hunger Games.
That's because it's all SUPPOSED to be like wearable art and has a theme Did it not occur to anyone that the Met is an art gallery fundraiser? Historically it was called the Costume Institute Gala. By no means are we normalising this attire for standard wear.
Immagine if in 2025 we will all be posting on social media "HeY GyAlS iT's My FiRsT rEaPiNg, kInDa ExCiTeD"
The fact that I can imagine that happening...
Maybe not in 2025, but not in the far future either.
Pov the hunger games were actually predictions and not just a movie
Wow, the parallel never occurred to anyone before! It’s like the story has a message about social class, wealth and poverty
nah if this world gets to that point for real im outta here
We’ve got the outfits. Next thing you know Snow or Coin is gonna become president
its almost like the books and movie were based off its crazy get this real life society 💀
@@ghostyfries3658 even if Snow or Coin were president, they wouldn't be able to do anything really. Since there are laws.
If ppl dress like that normally ima just bc like “bye I’m going to go jump off a 50 story building 😝”
I'm going to Mars if thats what happens 💩
bro just discovered that high fashion has existed for a hot minute ☠️☠️
U asleep bro
@@serenitysubs933 fashion as a performance / artform has existed almost since its inception. and the outfits worn at those events are MEANT to be outlandish / eye-catching. This isn't a staple of mainstream, everyday life the way it was in the capitol. and even if it was? the much more pressing issues with the capitol were the extortion of the districts, the pageantry of and spectacle that a literal killing game was turned into, the innumerable counts of human rights violations they committed, and the flagrant disregard for the value of human life in general. if you're looking for all that, tho: look no further than ~billionaires~.
we're safe from them becoming the irl capitol tho just so long as they don't form a state exclusive to them. 👍 we're not there yet. many of them are veering in a more fascistic direction with the anti lgbtq rhetoric, but so far we haven't reached state mandated killing game participation status
@@ritternachtoh shut the hell up 😂
@@ritternacht yes! They also showed the Met Gala which is supposed to be "fashion's biggest night". So there are supposed to be some extravagant outfits
it’s the fact that capitol fashion is INSPIRED BY real high fashion. we aren’t ’turning into’ the hunger games, we inspired the hunger games!!!! and frankly that is far more worrying
WAS THAT GUILLERMO?! ROCKING A PINK FLOWER CAPE AND SUIT?! Gizmo’s vampire dreams have come true 🥹
The actual outfits people wore in the capitol were real life runway outfits

Keanu Reeves, he’s so humble
@Mayamicbaya the scene where he dies :(

@@Mayamicbayaomg so true.
That was low key the whole theme of the book
Suzanne Collins really predicted the future.
We’re already in the Hunger Games and rich people and celebrities are the capital. We need a Katniss to help us get out of this dystopian nightmare.
The American society as a whole is the Capitol. All other developing countries would be considered the districts
I know you and others might not like me saying this, but Jesus IS our Katniss
@@elvisherrera12 More like "1st world" countries are the Capitol, and "3rd world/developing" countries are the districts. The difference is that even at "first world countries" there are people suffering from lack of shelter, healthcare and food.
It’s already begun. It’s Hollywood, what did ya expect?😂
The fact that besides the Effie ones I couldn’t tell which ones were real and which ones were capitol-💀
If you think about it.. the draft for the army is exactly like the hunger games.
The fact everyone is just realizing this now while I’ve been dreading it for years😂
have y’all never seen the met gala before this year? … hollywood has always had crazy fashion trends LMAO
People who say that are trying to normalize it. The question is why? Why are they using their platform, power, resources, and money to care about their “outfits”, when people in their own country are starving, homeless, and jobless??
@@Ladymagentabennetti 1000% agree with that but i feel like calling out the fashion instead of the people doesn’t do anything, as someone who’s poor it’s fuck the celebs who don’t use their platform for good but i’m still obsessed w obscene fashion so i don’t rlly understand what the fashion has to do with them being shitty people.
who tf sees met gala
I said it before, and I'll say it again. The three main dystopian movies are slowly becoming our reality.
The adults will participate in The Hunger Games,
The teens/kids will be in The Maze Runner,
And the government will be Divergent.
Imagine if prophesies are real and the artist/writer had a split second of the truth and built on it from there
I can definitely see it. Basically aspects from every series coming together for one really bad reality
next on my watch list is divergent
This is what I’ve been saying!!!! But the problem is these are classified as “fiction” so the ppl who see the truth are seen as crazy or read too much. Also I love the maze runner omg 😭
… bro what? Evidence?
The people of Panem’s capital are insane! Insane I tell you! INSANE!!!
Slowly? Honey, we're there. We've been there. This little piece of time where this isn't apparent... Is unique. Keep vigilant.
I’m telling you, dystopian writers are just physics at this point!
It was written to reflect the present, not the future. We've always been like this, people are just taking more notice to it now
oh my godddd, dystopian authors always draw from the present. they critique modern society by taking it to the extreme. The point of a dystopian is that the groundwork already exists in our world, it’s just grown to show the true issues that arise with it
Could we simply take a breath and acknowledge the fact that:
- The Met Gala is a fundraising event to raise funds for the MOMA's Institute of Costume History, and is in that sense primarily about celebrating fashion as a tool of self-expression.
Thank you only sensible comment here
‘Remember that this isn’t just a story, it’s our future’
the more time goes on the more i realise that we’re just living in a dystopian world.

Clearly someone’s never been to a fancy dress costume party before. 😂
@@TheBlueAlchemystthere are different types of fancy. The met gala has always been part costume for a reason. And it’s been so much longer than the hunger games has been around.
It's almost like dystopia is a critique of the society we live in
This is actually terrifying
The bad thing about the capitol wasn't the silly clothing, it was the exploitation and literal death games. Point out the exploitation of the masses instead, since we don't have death games (yet).
Weapons testing on palestinian civilians over the past several decades suggests otherwise
2085: welcome to the first hunger games!!
Bruh have of them are just MET GALA THEMED dresses, we aint turning into the capital
Ik, it just looks so similar to hunger games
Yeah the people who are so paranoid about the main part of the hunger games happening just because rich people are weird are both funny and sad to look at
Babes I think the point is that we have extravagant parties with hours of preparation just for the mass is entertainment while people are dying. I don’t think he’s saying that people walk around like that.
Yeah ok but the fashion choices also aren’t really the biggest comparison that can be drawn between our society and the capital
@@datreanamatherly3548people are always dying lmao. Its not everyone's responsibility to save the whole world every minute.
Or…and hear me out.. the met gala is MEANT to have celebrity’s dress extravagant and camp for a cause!
It goes much farther than just the fashion events though.
can people not be expressive and creative? 💀
Girl if the hunger games starts I’m fucking dead
I won’t lie I’ve been waiting for this
We've ALWAYS been the capitol😂 it was literally written to mock the rich of our world😂😂😂😂😂
these outfits give me so much nostalgia

Let them choose from themselves. I will never them that satisfaction
Excuse me, lol. I forgot the word "give", lol

It's already happening, honey. In Palestine.
Well shit- we’re screwed.

lol 😂😂 Using outfits from the “camp” themed Met Gala event as “proof” is like going to a Trigonometry event and going, “Look! 😮The Illuminati!”…. 😂😂
i wouldn’t be surprised if they started making poor people compete on death games at this point
The homelessness crisis, drug crises, gang violence, cartels, all rooted in inadequate and inequitable resources that are withheld only for greed, just like the hunger games we are forced to fight against each other for own survival, the hunger games is happening now
