I think The "Original" Sheik had been wrestling for over 30 years when this match took place. It's remarkable that, even though he's 55 (i think) and past his prime, he could still slug it out.
I wasn't aware they had a rematch as I don't believe I've seen this before. Their December 1980 match, which is pretty well-circulated, was your standard Sheik non-match in spite of Steamboat's best efforts. Steamboat attempts to limit the mayhem somewhat in this match.
Yeah this is probably the most tame I've ever seen Sheik in a wrestling match. He's actually trying to wrestle Steamboat early on instead of just trying to cut him open and beat him to a bloody pulp like he normally does to his opponents.

Technically, the Sheik was an awful wrestler. Poor technique, zero athleticism - garbage. But he had charisma and an ominous, nasty aura. Now, the IRON Sheik was a wrestler. A REAL wrestler. Before he joined the WWF, he had been a Greco-Roman wrestling coach for the USA team for the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich and the head coach at a college in Minnesota.

当時全日ファンだった小生、同時期に行われていた新日開催のMSGシリーズにブッチャーが登場しショックだったがシークが居た事で少しの安堵感が。相手がこのシリーズ完全日本陣営に加わったリッキー。不定期ながら準レギュラーで日本サイドで鶴田とのコンビで、このシーク、やはりこのシリーズ参加の全米モーストヘイテッド1位(登場はヒールなる表現皆無)のスヌーカ、ブッチャーの後釜とされるカマタ、この連中がイニチアシブを取っていくのだろうと先々の期待感があった思い出がある。しかし、この最終戦一ヶ月後の開幕戦、衝撃の..............。
そしてこの年年末最終戦、天地がひっくり返る超衝撃が...........
最強タッグ以外ずっと特別参戦だったのがこのシリーズだけ全戦参戦だったのはブッチャー引抜きの責任を取ったんでしょうね。
