Hey man, I just wanted to say thanks for these videos. I'm 24 and just learning to skate, and was really starting to get discouraged/feel like maybe I just wasn't built for it because I'm struggling so much with balance and fear. It's really encouraging to have a seasoned skater not just explain how to do something and then say "okay go do it now!", but to actually show what 'progress' might look like with that trick, and to reinforce that you shouldn't be disappointed in not getting it immediately, just to stick with it and trust that your body is improving even if you can't notice it. Thanks for all of your work on this!
Justin, I'm much older than most of your subsrcribers. I've returned to skateboarding after a long absence and I appreciate your videos. Your video shots are clear, and your descriptions and instructions are easy to follow. I'm still having a problem with manuals, but I'm getting better. Your tip about momentum and stability is helping. Keep up the good work.
Mark Willard TH-cam keeps a record of how old the people are that watch my videos, and it's saying 62% of them are between the ages of 18 and 34, so I don't know man, you might not be that much older! I really appreciate the feedback by the way. Your manuals will definitely get better over time, although it's hard to see progress over the short term, but it happens. You just have to make sure you enjoy the time you spend practicing. My advice on a drill to get them more consistent is to make chalk marks on the concrete like a foot apart and just try to hold a manual for 1 foot, and then 2 feet, and so on until you mess up and then you just start over. It's a lot more fun if you're playing against someone though.
I've started watching some of your tutorials and they are very informative and in depth! Much better than other popular videos on youtube. Many thanks!
Randy Romero Thanks homie! I definitely will :) Judging by all the skate videos you watch, your skill level is probably a little bit past this stuff, right?
Justin Lauria not really, i've been skating for a month, just cruising around to get confortable and these past 3 days i've been trying to learn how to ollie hopefully by next week i can land a perfect high ollie.
Randy Romero shoot man, you've only been skating for a month and you're already doing ollies? That's really fast in my opinion...If you keep learning stuff at that rate, you're going to be crazy good in like a year or two.
Another phenomenal video dude. I hope you get paid for these because I would totally buy a collection of these lessons just to support you man! You are an awesome teacher
I already feel very comfortable on my skateboard on my like 4th day but I'm pretty sure that's because I snowboard but I find it difficult to do a sharper turning move thing to my left. I can do my right pretty well.
Dude your videos are fucking EXCELLENT. I am returning to skateboarding after over a decade of not standing on a skateboard. Your videos have been a huge help. It also seems like your tall, which makes me feel better since I am a 6' 3" 220 and sometimes get it in my head that I am not fit to skate. But FUCK that. I love this sport so much.
EagleLogic yeah man I am the same height, 6'3", 200, and I'll admit I broke a few boards in the first couple of years I started skating, but once you get better of landing on top of your wheels, that problem will go away, and as long as you can jump, you can do a whole lot on a skateboard. It's more about practice than anything. Welcome back btw!
I've learnt most of the basics. I'm currently trying to manual but I can't seem to stick it. Weirdly I can stay in the regular manual position for ages while stationary but once I move I can only manage a couple seconds. I think it's mainly due to the skatepark. It's not very big and the ground not in the best condition. I need to find a nice flat and quiet sidewalk or something.
тєєנ I was planning on making an ollie trick tip soon, so your comment was a good enough reason to go ahead and pull the trigger. Here you go: th-cam.com/video/JY5nCJ9zm6A/w-d-xo.html Hope it helps!
2:22 bingo exactly why (at 51 [is that too old ❓❓🤔🤔🤔) i have taken up skateboarding... thank You for Your helpful videos, they are teaching me concepts You simply have no idea of unless someone tells You ❗️❓❓🤔🤔🤔 i hope not to break too many bones but i will if i have too 😳😳😳 😂😂😂 🛹🛹🛹
I feel like there is a secret to it. Whenever I try to manual it only lasts a few seconds, but when I accidentally land in manual I lock in for what feels like forever. Maybe going on autopilot is the secret. "Accidentally" landing in manual.
clubpenguin tutorials Just lift your board off slightly and you are good to go. It's really not even a manual it's just for a split second. Just bend your knees when you land a little for more control. I know this comment was 7 months ago but just if anyone else was curious lol
The Face Lacker I do. Seems like every time I try to manual it doesn't last that long, but every time I accidentally land in manual I lock in for what feels like forever.
Stephen Struble. But dude there are cooler tricks out there!! And the Manual is a simple trick that u CAN 100% learn without watching videos about it. Broo

Justin Lauria Thanks for the tip. I'm sure it will be a while before I manual up a ramp, but I like setting goals.
I've started watching some of your tutorials and they are very informative and in depth! Much better than other popular videos on youtube. Many thanks!
+Gamer1234ohyeah No problem man, I'm glad you're getting into skateboarding!

Hey thanks for teaching nose manny's i used to be terrible at it
so my "manuals" last like .5 seconds. do i just need to keep doing them to make them longer or lift my board up more?
might have broke my wrist attempting this on a slippery surface. thank you for the mental training material
Great video! I subscribed!
Do you look at your feet/board or the ground in front of you?
Matthew Wyatt occasionally I'll glance at my feet/board, but I've found it helps tremendously with balance to look more out in front of you
Justin Lauria thanks!

Christopher Commander give it a little push forward and drag with your backfoot like a nollie to keep the board under your feet
very informative!
Can you make a video of how to skate longer on the road?
Thanks for this tutorial i understand greatly now!:))

Thanks a lot
I was doing a tail manual and I fell and hit my head really hard lol thats what happens when I try with not much experience
joey brezinski did a nose manual like he's not even moving. his body is like NOT MOVING
What kind of wheels are those???
I know how to manual.... but I still liked watching this.
my bushings are too soft, so I can't balance along the length of the board. Is this lack of skill?
it's so weird to see the same parks I skate in tutorials
I feel like there is a secret to it. Whenever I try to manual it only lasts a few seconds, but when I accidentally land in manual I lock in for what feels like forever. Maybe going on autopilot is the secret. "Accidentally" landing in manual.

am I the only one who thinks he looks like the guy from twenty one pilots?
No he does not look like Joshua Dun or Tyler Jospeh
i hate this new hoverboarding stuff with those balance boards or electric balancers or something #BringSkatingBack
NO ONE WANTS TO LEARN HOW TO MANUAL XD
The Face Lacker I do. Seems like every time I try to manual it doesn't last that long, but every time I accidentally land in manual I lock in for what feels like forever.

than why are you watching this?
