While your there scuttle panel removed, you might also want to redo the seals of the rubber grommets below the windscreen, as these are known to leak through time, causing water on the passenger footwell.
I wasn't in any rush while doing this but with the right equipment I'd say you could definitely take the engine and gearbox out yourself within a day of work, same with painting the engine bay, and same with putting everything back in, in total maybe 3 days at a decent pace of work, but really depends. I did everything whenever I had time over the course of a few weeks.
