  • Highlights from the Maryland overtime win at North Carolina in February of 1986. Highlighted by a Len Bias jumper, steal and reverse jam. One of the great moments in all of Maryland Terp history. Also a Keith Gatlin lob to Speedy Jones and a Derrick Lewis block.

What an amazing sequence. It pains me to this day that we never got to see Lenny blossom into the NBA superstar that he should have been.

That reaction by the announcer of "Oh My!" says it all. He was an exceptional talent with the ability to make breathtaking plays.

I was there and a year older. We were quite fortunate to have witnessed Lenny's greatness and the loaded ACC teams that played at Cole Field House.

Practically the entire UNC team was giving Bias cheapshots and undercutting him that game.

Bias made it fashionable to spread your legs on your dunks

Imagine him in the NBA Dunk Contest when it still meant something.

Think about it., Len Bias would have changed the history of pro basketball. Being the next star on the Celtics, he unquestionably would have extended the careers of Bird, McHale and Parish. They would have won at least one more NBA title. As those players neared retirement and Bias began to dominate, there would have been a Bird/Magic-like rivalry between Bias and Jordan. The Celtics and the Bulls would have met in numerous Eastern Conference Finals, with the winner claiming the NBA title. The Bad Boys Pistons might have been the third best team in the East and never won their titles. There would have been green Reebok Air Bias sneakers and gear. We were robbed of all this.
