Love your listenthru and review of this. It's especially nice when it's from someone who knows their stuff because you catch all the subtler stuff and I get to learn so much from that. :) Like, your review was 2 hours long but it just flew by for me.
Also, you seem pretty exhilarated at the end there. I've seen Kaze and his music have the same effect on a lot of musicians and industry professionals who's listened to them. ;)
Anyway, here are answers to some of the questions you asked as well as some observations and suggestions:
-Afaik, most if not all of the backing vocals and harmonies are him.
-Production, arrangement and mixing are done by another crazy talented youngish guy called Yaffle (who's also playing keyboard for him as part of his backing band for his current tour that's going on)
-Kaze actually started out as a cover artiste on TH-cam first before turning professional. His earliest covers available for viewing and listening are from way back in 2010 (when he was 12) and he was strictly a pianist until mid-2017 when he started uploading vocal+piano covers instead. Looking through his channel, you'll be taken on a journey where viewers can actually chart his progress (and growth from lil' boy to young man). It's pretty amazing stuff. He actually has two full album covers released as well, each released as a bonus CD to the first press limited edition of an album.
-Your interpretation of the NaN-NaNw is spot on. :D MOH-EE-WA you were on track at first then sorta went somewhere else but if that's what it sounds like to you, then it isn't wrong either. :)
-NaN-NaNw, MOH-EE-WA, Yasashisa, Kiriganaikara and Kaerou each have explanations given by the guy himself on his channel. And in English, too. So you might wanna check those out if you're really curious about the meaning he intended for those songs. I mean, no one can explain it better than the creator himself so if he's put them out there, and made it international-fan friendly at that, would be best to just hear it straight from him.
-Choshinochatte is Japanese lol. And you didn't listen right until the very end of it. You paused it right before the very last bit and then skipped to the next track :'(
-The horns and brass section in TnK was a deliberate decision on the Yaffle's (the producer) part that Kaze thought was a good idea as well because of the factors you named.
-Shinunoga sounds like it's about obsessive romantic love, but it's actually pretty in-line with his other songs because he's actually singing about not wanting to lose sight of the better version of himself that he's always trying to get closer to being.
    - I love Kazeyo. It's my fave after MOH-EE-WA and Yasashisa.
    - Sayonara Baby has a live version you can experience on his channel. It's not about a person though, it's about his hometown that he's lived in all his life until he left for Tokyo at 21-22. So it's a little bit sad but mostly hopeful.
He has done a bunch of Taylor Swift covers. My fave is his interpretation of Wildest Dreams. The most popular is his jazzy rendition of Shake It Off (which was also released in his first cover album).
Also, I don't think the sound of his albums are overproduced. It's actually a very well-balanced production (overproduced in my books are a lot of the western pop stuff we hear these days) and I think it's important for Kaze to have such a polished sound in his studio albums within his discography because 1) there are some very interesting sounds in there that you can only get in the studio recorded version of his songs, and 2) it also creates a nice contrast when we hear him live because we just get floored by the fact that he's one of those artistes whose live performances actually manage to surpass their studio recorded sound.
So, I love both kinds of sound from him. He's the kind of artiste who also needs to release a live album (preferably with half of it being acoustic performances) so people can listen to him in different environments and enjoy what each has to offer.
Fujii Kaze is one of the most sublime musician I've ever had the fortune to discover and I'm super excited for what other things his immense depth and talent will give birth to from here on out.
P/s: If you like what little you've heard of Kaze's acoustic stuff, you should check out his Nissan Stadium Free Live. It's basically an hour's worth of him singing with a grand piano in a vast empty stadium that was streamed on TH-cam about a year and a half back.
Oh and I'd recommend listening back to the couple of tracks you haven't fave'd as well at some point because they might just surprise you after a couple more listens.

so glad you reviewed this album! I first became obsessed with Shinunoga E-Wa live performance, listened to other songs and the rest is history. He has so much depth in his songs, musically and in his lyricism. I am not really knowledgeable about the technicalities, but so glad you can share it with us. Hope you can also review his second album "Love All Serve All". In the name of his albums (Help Ever Hurt Never and Love All Serve All), his authenticity can already be seen.

Thank you so much for reacting to this! This album is my fav of last year and will stick with me for a while!
Just to let you know, Fujii's last name "kaze" means "the wind" in Japanese, I guess that's also why the "wind" is called upon in some of his ending songs as a finale. ❤

Hello... I enjoyed your review. Higher Lover, written, arranged, and directed by Fujii Kaze, and performed by MISA, another singer. Please tell me what you think of it. He play piano and directed the Harlem Gospel Choir. Damn by Kaze if upbeat and fun. What do you think?
