This is undoubtedly the best animated Christmas special ever made. The writing, music, and voice acting are all top notch. It deserves more attention than it gets. The line at the end where Margo says “This is Christmas Mokey” always gets to me.
These cartoons are how I learned about the bible. I was born in 1981 and started watching these roughly 6-7, and now I still watch these cartoons. There's a Innocence to these shows. They are pure, wholesome for families, and just plain good. The last part where Mokey realizes where they are, I tear up. Imagine going back to see Jesus as a baby. And the music at the end is so in my opinion spiritual. On another note I've been searching for that song for over 20 yrs and finally found it. "Holy Savior Born This Night" is going on my Christmas list.
Totally agree! I saw these a kid and am in my mid-20s now. These cartoons... they're not like the rest. When I rewatch them, my main thought isn't "wow I'm reliving my childhood" or "wow I'm really stimulated by this" (except maybe with the scenes with Mokey, since his job really is to mostly appeal to kids in the audience). The feeling goes beyond nostalgia. What Hannah Barbara studios has created here is real art, and a blessed offering to God. A feeling of wonder and cozy comes from these videos just as much as they do from art like the Cysteine Chapel. Here's praying that more stuff like this are created 🙏 Bible stories aren't retold enough IMO
I watched these as a kid!! I loved them!! I'm so glad someone still has them. I hope someday they all make it to DVD. Only 5 of them have been released, but I'm glad they eventually did get released.

I've got nearly all of these episodes on video DVD and tape and this one is great I for one wouldn't mind going to this era to see the first Christmas as a visitor just like these three kids did and Vincent Price was great as the King 👑Herrod
Thanks for sharing this. I hate that it was never placed on DVD. My favorite part is when the innkeeper is shown when the angel appears. He knew that a baby was coming, but he had no idea it would possess such a significance. I also love when Moki takes off his hat and bawls. He's my favorite of the film's three additional travelers. @@highway2heaven91 I don't remember what I did with my copy. The recording experience was awesome. We recorded in the old Capitol Records building in LA. The one that looks like a stack of pancakes. We also got a visit from Joseph Barbera. That was a thrill.

You were? Maybe you could tell me what the choir sang before "Away in A Manger" during the closing credits! I watched this tape religiously (no pun intended) as a child. Watching it now, the music leaves me a weeping mess (I'm sniffling at the moment). The name of the song at the end right before the credits begin to roll is absolutely beautiful, but the name of it has been a mystery. If you could tell me the name of it, it would be one of the greatest Christmas presents I could ever receive.
+Kathyrn Hill, Christmas should be celebrated in the first place... In the bible there has nothing to do with Christmas and for *all* of you stop with this non sense about Jesus lets you do EVERYTHING

My childhood right here (: love these cartoons!
If I didn't know better, I would say that Herod was voiced by the late Vincent Price. One of my favorite actors of the old days!
I know this is late but what you say is right
And the voice of Mary was Helen Hunt.
And Moki was Rob Paulsen.
The actors for this series are incredible. Just amazing actors and actresses

Leave that inn keeper a 5 star review, Merry Christmas!
12:09 I hear professor ratigans voice when king Herod speaks from the great mouse detective
Vincent Price
awesome!!
Somehow the three young travelers seemed to be the inspiration for three of the five Planeteers from Captain Planet.
The Baby Jesus lying in the manger will one day bring us goodness and light
That angel with the shepherds scared the he'll out of me...
It is, good listening! I was in the choir that sang the music btw.

Great story, now if only the people had eyeballs.
Classic Hanna-Barbera animation. They do this in many of their cartoons.
Vincent Price is the only reason I watched this!
He's the reason I watched it too, being a Vincent Price fan ever since the 1970s.
2:35 the soldier looks at the camera. I used to wonder if he was talking to Mary but I doubt he was.
