This video will provide a detailed description of how to load a film into an AE-1 Program. It is the same process for the Canon AE-1 and very similar for most 35mm SLR cameras.
There is a second video about how to fit a battery in this camera which you can find here?- • Canon AE-1 Program, ba...

Hi. Can the film get loose in the camera?
For example if i put the camera in a bag and it touches the rewinder? Should you turn the rewinder to increased the tension before every photo?
The reason Im asking is because the rewind spool stopped moving halfway through a roll. And i dont understand why.

Hello, Thank you for your comments and questions.
In general terms taking up the slack when first loading a film can provide a handy indicator a film is moving through the camera. It is not mandatory however. I would not sugest doing this after every shot as it increases the chances of tearing a film. Slack can build up in the film tenstion and so from time to time you might gently want to just turn the crank so you can see it move when winding on but again this is not mandatory. It is unlikly the rewind release pin would be pushed in while in a bag but if this is a worry just take a second to look at it when you take it out of the bag. It can't get pushed in and then spring out again without the shutter being fired and the film being wound on to the next frame. If the pin were acidentally pushed in however it would spring out the next photo you took, the sprokets would not stay permanatly freewheeling! The only major cause of concern is if you tear the film in camera. DO NOT OPEN THE CAMERA TO CHECK. So if you take more photos than there is film on the roll then you might tear it winding on the last phantom photos. If you think somthing is amiss then yes, try tensioning the film with the rewind crank and without pressing the rewind release button. Be gental as being heavy handed if you are unsure can also tear the film. If the film canont be tenstioned in this way one of three things has happend. You allready rewound the film. The film is torn. There is no film in the camera. Everyone will experiance all three of these situations at some point. In all three cases only open the camera in a photogrpahic darkroom or changing bag or take the camera to a "propper" camera store and ask them to do this. If the film is torn you will need to get a spare film cassettee in which to stow the torn film, all by feel in the dark. This needs a little skill and planing so try and find a shop or experianced pal who can help. Of course if you are somwhere very special and the photos you have taken are less important to you then the ones you will have taken if your camera was not tied up with a torn film in it then relictantly you mght want to open the camera, remove the film and throw it away and put a new film in. This
is kind of a last resort however.

Hi, once pressed, how does the button for the release go back down again? Pressing it again does nothing.
