  • For many out there it is a struggle to perform the tests since time restrictions weather restrictions and chasing the ETA is a priority on which on my opinion shouldn't be.
I am making this video in order to help others to build their confidence with the performance of the subject tests.
In this video you will see how to test the main engine on the AHEAD and ASTERN position from the Bridge and the Bridge Wing consoles plus the indicators on the Bridge while we will be performing the steering gear test with all available mean, actual steering gear wheel, Non Follow up system and System Override.
I also perform the test of the Ships Whistle and the Morse Key Light plus dimming up all the equipment which needs to be checked.
    I hope you enjoy.
After many years being in the industry I found out that it is a struggle on how to perform the pre-arrival tests on the
main engines and on the steering gear and equipment from the Bridge Officers.

By far the best and most informative video I've seen regarding pre-arrival tests. Very complete, really well explained, direct to the point and with a high quality on the video and edition. Cheers to your good work Captain and thank you very much for sharing this with us!

Having watched how things going on your vessel I understood that we have never been a "true" sailor. It's the first time that I see such controlling system at both wings exist. And your pre arrival tests are so strict and well planned. What a video. I am looking for your departure test from a port as soon as possible. Thanks Captain. You are my super hero now.

Very nice video captain. I would like to see a video on deck cadets' duties and anything surrounding them while on the ship, since this summer I am going to join a company as an apprentice officer.

Hello captain Niko, i would like to request a video for (passage plan) , soon i will get my license as officer and
nobody on the ship teach me from scratch how to make a passage plan. Plus i would love to see the functionality of ECDIS and RANDAR
    int details.

      Hello Vasili,
Unfortunatelly I am not able now to make such a video on board a ship.
Have you joinned a vessel as an Officer yet?Have you performed the Generic and Type Specific ECDIS training? If no, when time comes you will required to do it and there you may ask the trainer to fully assist you.

@@megalepivolos I got you, the truth is that now days the crew is well trained they know how to act in case of an Emergency and they act fast.Trainings are performed to all ranks and it is working, now days Deck cadets can calibrate the Gas Detection Systems when 15 years ago they wouldn't allow them to them.
