I saw this movie in eighth grade while studying immigration. We didn't get very far in the movie but it drove me bonkers that a classmate mistakenly believed the lie that there are no cats in America. I live in America and my only pet is a cat. :)
My parents might not be the best parents in the world, but the one thing I will forever be thankful is that they bought the cassette tape of this movie's soundtrack, even if I didn't understand English at all since I was only 4 years old, I still listened to it all the time as soon as I learned how to operate the player, until the tape eventually degaussed; I still have it on my shelf. Now that I can not only understand English but a bit of many other languages, this song hits very differently!! Thank you, Mr. Horner, for making my childhood so colorful.
@@rae-raetheturtledemon. Well, actually, he was originally a bear during the ages of the Alice Comedies and Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, but once Mickey entered the scene, he was turned into a cat.

Won't it be nice when we get to The Sahara Desert, where we don't have to worry about coronaviruses anymore? There are no coronaviruses in The Sahara Desert, but back home in Father America.
Nya, but you have to deal with the Moroccan government invading another country. I'd say that's worse than the coronavirus. Believe me, I live in the Canary Islands and I know how terrible times are for our neighbors >.
This is almost identical to A Rumor In St. Petersburg from Anastasia. Also it's a big lie because there are cats everywhere in America. In fact, there's a Barney song that mentions cats being in the jungle & in the city.
When I heard this song again, I realized that was a common misconception, Papa Mouskawitz said there are no cats in America but he was wrong. Cats are everywhere, they're an invasive species all because we supported the cat population. Our love for cats are the dangerous reasons why most birds go extinct because of cats.
Russians were escaping Cossaks. Italians were escaping the mafia. Irish dude is just heartbroken, no word of English oppression or potato famine, weird.
That is the reality of life sadly. but it is far more hopeful than what people give it. Life is just simply not designed to be easy and it is kind of a harsh balance of reality.
Kristoff: I’m gonna tell him.
Anna: Don’t you dare!
Oh the pop culture irony.
the Irish guys song is amazing!
I wonder who did his singing voice?
It’s nit Irish its russian
It's Russian

“Who’s gonna tell them?” the song.
Always loved this song, but the last verse made me sad as a kid
Me too. I got the others, but his always had me close to crying. But now that I'm older and I understand the lyrics, it just makes it worse
The last performed by an Irish mouse?
Here in 2021, and it feels like everybody just realized that there is cats in America
Yassss
During this movie, everybody thought there weren’t
I’m so glad i discovered this great song.
i can't imagine the trauma that mouse went through when his girlfriend was eaten

The irish mouse it said "Nan" on the gravestone so I thought it was his mom or grandma.

As a child I did not appreciate the tonal shifts of this song.
Especially when you get to the Irish mouse.
It doesn’t feel complete without the thunder clap at the end
Song: "her tail was all he left of her ... 'neath the heather is where she [lies]."
Me: "Okay, 'heather' = Gaelic for 'litter box' got it."
The Verse: 😭💀
The Chorus: 😀🕺
"Poor mama mia!" *Elderly mouse faints!* XD
awesome movie and awesome song
Probably my very favorite from my whole childhood! Love the whole score!
It's so cool that they're all stating their reasons for coming to America!
Sylvester, Tom, Scratchy, Felix, Garfield, Oggy, would hear this.
Define "probably" in this case. And while you're at it, include Pete into that list.
And don’t forget puss in boots

The final part of the song is very similar to the Star Spangled Banners
I'm SURE that has to be a coincidence.
Still sad to hear about that mouse had to see his gf be eaten.
That was the one that would make me cry when I was a kid. Even now it tears me up. The music itself doesn't help with that.

There is just one phrase completely wrong in all this song "There are no cats in America". Lol
The Irish mouse’s lover was killed by a calico… or a “Black and Tan”.
I love Nehemiah Persoff. :) So emotive. :) So much catphobicness in this song. Shame. :P
He made a fantastic Papa for sure! :D They are mice singing though! Guess Fievel meeting up with Tiger later would make up for things a little?
