Thanks, Dave. I laughed, I cried, I got chest pains. Ordered The Story of a Secret State because we will all need to be part of the new underground. Now to rewatch this video until I understand your poems properly.

Hello, David! I am enjoying these poems. It was interesting to see how you responded to politics throughout the years. And these long form videos are nice to watch, by the way. I put this one on before bed and watched it chunk by chunk. Thanks! 😀

David, I'm really glad you did this. I'm about halfway through and will have to return later (hectic week), but I find discussions and presentations of poetry generally calming (even of politics, perhaps just for its deep attention to a sometimes-over-reactive subject), and your poetry strikes me as ideal in this moment (the sound is so strong, and you read with pleasant emphasis). Thank you for following through on my little comment.

@@ToReadersItMayConcern Thank you for your positivity. Since I met you I think about your father occasionally (though I don’t think I ever met him personally) - it is rare to find someone graciously predisposed to poetry. 🧐

Thanks for this, David. I enjoy your work. I love your anti-trump poem. And your work interrogating fascism, unjust invasion & civil violence is very moving. I wish I had the courage to take on the political/current affairs milieu. Not enough poets do this. This is important work.

@@apoetreadstowrite Thank you for saying so. Ultimately, poetry affects (or is that effects) nothing - so Auden is reputed to have asserted. But he wasn’t always right.

@@davidnovakreadspoetry: It certainly changes the way we navigate out way through, & understand, the world, but it doesn't change economics, I guess. I love Auden's poetry, but he was a bit of a ratbag, I suspect.

Got mail this morning. Started with Inaugural Considerations, your Poem for Barack Obama. "The times momentous are: on us depends the progeny..." Ponies in the race.

@@PatriciaCrabtree-wm8xd It warms my heart. What you quoted sure sounds like me, but I can’t fill in the dot dot dot to be sure of where it goes. To address your earlier point, “understand[ing]… poems properly” may not always be feasible: sometimes the writer is just an idiot. That was 2009, so fifteen years ago. 🤔

@@davidnovakreadspoetry The quote is the end of the Obama poem. I chopped the piece as it suited me. Going forward am okay to be half of a pair of idiots tripping over your oeuvre.
