The 1/48 Jag and 1/35 Stalwart were the absolute highlights for me. Both long, long overdue........! Then the 1/144 SLS Artemis was an unexpected bonus.
This was Airfix's best release announcement for years!
Now we wait for new 1/48 Tornado and Harriers.....

A terrific line up from Airfix Peter. Fingers crossed we see the Saracen and Saladin at a later date. Agree the Arctic Jag would be cool !!! Top review mate, well done.

Big thing for me was the RAF Rescue Launch. Been after one of those for ages! Next was the Lady Be Good Liberator. I would have got one by now, had that scheme been available. Now it is, and that's great. I built a Lockheed Hudson last year, 1970s kit, and that was tricky. Hope they cleaned it up for this re-release. Happy for all you Jag and Stalwarts fans. Not my thing, but they are very cool models. Guess I will have to wait another year and hope for the RSS Discovery, 1901. Yes, I like me ships and boats I do!

Stalwart is a must buy. Considered it is related to the Saracen, Saladin and Salamander, maybe we will see these in coming years? Still no re-release of the 1/48 Sea Vixen sadly!

I think that this is the most positive release window from Airfix for quite some time. They have established a clear identity and categories of genre that they are likely to exploit for the next 5 years or so. Listening to Dale speak on another channel, it was interesting to hear him say that they led with the Tr.9 which they really wanted to do and as a result, got a Mk.IXe as a freebie. He also made a very strong statement about 1:24 being their market (as opposed to 1:32) and I think we may well see something new released pre-Telford.
I think we will see the Wessex in 1:48 next year and eventually a new 1:48 Puma. It's absolutely right that they should lead the UK niche combat vehicle market, and I also expect we'll now see many of the derivatives of the FV600 six-wheelers. The RAF version of the B-17 is great and I'm hoping that we will see a Costal Command Liberator at some point. I have a feeling in my water that a new tool Halifax might be high on the list and maybe even as a surprise release later this year.

Re the AEW Gannet, I believe that to all intents and purposes this would need to be a new kit, as there are so many differences from the ASW/COD ones. Sword have done the AEW as well, so that maybe covers the market as far as the real afficionados are concerned.

Ahem! A small point about the availability of the Stalwart - I am old enough to remember that Airfix(?) put out a 1:35 scale poly-plastic (that not very nice soft, flexible stuff) Stalwart back in the seventies/eighties along with a 105 mm field gun. They were both pretty good toolings that came ready-made, to my young eyes quite accurate. Pretty sure it was Airfix but I'm not 100% on that, they went very nicely with the soldiers they also put out in the same scale, horrible to paint as the soft plastic meant the paint would easily flake off. If anyone else remembers this, please comment, my memory may be off on the manufacturer.

You may remember I have mentioned that I sub-contract to Airfix through a third party and I did the bulk of the construction instructions for the Stalwart new release, I have had to sit on that and not breath a word about it, very hush-hush. So glad I can talk about it at last! I have the test shot sprues for this model and I can tell you it is spectacular, you will not be disappointed! Thanks for your break-down on the new releases, the Jaguar is also on my list along with the new 'D' Liberator, always a favourite of mine.

The 54 Squadron Jaguar is a GR1, as were all of the LRMTS aircraft that folllowed it in the production run. The Laser and the RWR systems were late and to get the aircraft into service, the French type nose and fin were fitted to the early aircraft. When those aircraft next went into a major service, the Chisel nose and RWR were retrofitted as modification kits became avaiable. The GR1A aircraft introduced a new Navigation and Attack system and revised Mk 9 Election seats.
Jaguar is a must as I was one of the guys who helped restore XX741 (the 6 Sqn scheme in the kit) to a ground running condition (I've known about this kit for nearly 20 months as Airfix were shown around that aircraft back in early 2023). I hope they have the option of having the Undercarriage doors shut with the wheels down as the doors were only open for maintenance on the ground. The only times they were normally open was for raising or lowering the undercarriage in flight. In fact, when those doors are opened on the ground, there is a small panel open just in front of the port main gear door that has the switch in its bay that operates the doors on the ground.
No open Avionics bays, Cannon bay or Engine with the panel that covers them off from the looks of it, A bit of a miss for a kit that cost £60. However, its not every day that you can build a model of something you have worked or flown in right out of the box.
B-17 has the option of a RAF 100 (Bomber Support) Group RCM (ECM in new money) aircraft. First time I’ve seen any of the 100 Group heavies in kit form straight out of the box, hopefully a 100 Group Liberator will be next.

Excellent news Peter. Airfix should be commended for listening to feedback from You Tube presenters such as yourself and the modelling community. Fantastic a new 1/48 Jaguar Gr.1 (my preferred aircraft scale) which has been requested for many years. Kitty Hawk has two 1/48 Jaguars but these are not readily available since being out of production for some years. I’m fairly confident that Airfix will produce a 1/48 Jaguar Gr.3 in the future as well.
The 1/48 Gannet COD is not too bad, however I will be hopeful of a 1/48 Gannet AEW in the future as well. Sword manufacturer a good 1/48 Gannet AEW but this lacks internal detail and the ability to make a wing folded model. We modellers should applaud Sword for taking the risk in producing this model. I can view a real Gannet AEW at the Yorkshire Air Museum near my home, along with a Halifax, Buccaneers, Handley Page Victor and Nimrod.
Great to see a 1/35 Stalwart being made available in this scale. I recall as a child having a diecast model of a Stalwart; perhaps a Dinky toy? It’s nice to see a Cold War British AFV being modelled and this could be the door opening at Airfix to produce more British Cold War military hardware?
I am tempted to purchase the 1/48 twin seat Spitfire as this is an unusual subject. Airfix gets a thumbs up from me!
As always Peter an informative, interesting and entertaining video presentation. Keep up the great work.

Oh boy! I'm going to have to do some constructive stash hiding & delivery time juggling to "manage" all the kits from Airfix this year. Jag! Wessex! Puma! (a new one would be nice...) All personal to me in my previous life as an erk, and the ones I missed before; E-Boat, and Victor. The rest seem good, but I can't afford a bigger house.
As for the Wessex being released as a Navy Version (ie Humfrey) HAS Mk3 or even a Hu Mk5. Those can't be made from the HC Mk2 fuselage unless they have done some fudging to allow the Port fuselage windows to be different sizes. The navy aircraft windows are longer & rectangular compared to the square RAF HC2 windows, which follow the original Sikorsky design, and the HAS 3 has a completely different nose section with 2 exhausts. It does look nice though, and all it would need to be perfect would be a 240 OCU scheme... (I can dream can't I?).

The 1/48 jag is on its way.!.Airfix has listened and agreed. Some other releases announced were also great..1/72 Wessex(which I hope to see in 1/48),plus the Spitfires..Now I will defend Airfix releasing a new Mk.9 Spitfire and now a two seater as well.Airfix being British should carry on releasing the Spitfire..Now a clever move for Airfix in 1/48 would be a range of Harriers. The kinetic kits are very tedious to build(as Peter knows). But a new tooled Harrier would fit great.!

I love almost all the new releases from AirFix. From someone on the other side of the pond, I think the prices are spot on. There is plenty of meat on the bone, as they say, for a Yank to be excited about. I’m over the moon for the Jaguar, and the Tornado now is just a must. I must respectfully disagree with you on the ships. I think AirFix is missing the mark with their range of ships. The 1/700 is too small for me and 1/350 is just too big space wise but 1/600 is just right. If AirFix would release a new tool Hood, Leander, or Graff Spee in 1/600 they would sail off the shelves. I truly think a new tooled range of these ships would be a huge hit. But it’s just my opinion. Keep up the good work my friend. Thank you for what you do for us modelers.

Ok it's not the end of the world but for what you pay and a new tooling, it really shouldn't be the case. The Jag might be different as there aren't so many curves but we'll see. I came across a review and the builder commented on the poor fit, particularly where the engines fit the fuselage and he had to use a lot of elbow grease to get a flush fit. I am not saying it's a bad kit it all depends how much work you put in and what standard of finish you expect. I shall make the Royal Navy version at some point and see if I encounter the same problems.

I’m happy that they are going to release the Jag, but its not a plane i have any fond memories of. I will probably buy the Stalwart but I’m not that bothered. The two seater Spitfire is interesting, but I’m not really bothered.
The only thing i might actually buy is the SLS (a potentially clever choice as there is a planned upgrade and variants supposed to be used in the future). I would imagine moat people would prefer Space X Falcon 9 and the Heavy (presumably a copyright issue there).
On the Gannet, i cant see me buying the COD version, although i would have gone for the AEW version.
I think they’ve announced fewer new released than in 2024, which should be a worry development

Your headache is the result of aldehyde poisoning by your own hand. Consumed alcohol is converted to aldehyde by your liver. The aldehyde must be converted to a ketone to be excreted by your kidneys. Unfortunately this process is slower than the aldehyde conversion hence the aldehyde poisoning headache. Hydrate with good old water will help.

you say the model ship community is not that big, maybe you missed my video about why we are not seeing ship kits from Airfix. nearly 29,000 views 99.2% not my subscribers. I would not get theat may views for a Spitfire

I would love to see some meaningful data stats...I get the feeling that ship vids generally get far less views than aircraft, -just like cars & figures...I did watch your vid, but not likely to buy a ship myself...so probably not the best gauge of the market potential?

T0 be absolutely honest i could not care less about the Stalwart, the Jaguar is mildly of interest and to show how contrary i am i loved the Gannet release which i know was of little interest to you different stroke for different folks i guess but i like propeller aircraft not overly bothered about purely Jet Aircraft or Space Craft

Peter... I have a complaint against you... You KNEW that airfix was going to come out with kit. You made various wishful allusions to it. Well here it is. But here's my complaint: I also heard you bray at the thought of Airfix coming out with another version of the Spitfire in 1/24 scale in addition to the Mk IX and VIII. Well I've been waiting decades for someone to do a 1/32 scale or better yet a 1/24 scale version of the Spitfire Mk XIVe with the bubble canopy full span or chopped wing, and detailed Griffin engine. For some reason, no one has touched this airplane in scales larger than 1/48. The airplane deserves it! It's the most beautiful airplane ever to fly. And it did it's part in WWII. Zukei Muri won't touch it. How about Kotare or Tamiya??? Why the disinterest from the model industry???

NOT Guilty! 1) I had no knowledge whatsoever this Jag or Stalwart was ever going to be released, least of all now: Airfix are extremely professional and super secure with this sort of data, and refused to even say if it was being considered for the future. As explained, NO ONE was more surprised (or delighted) than me...2) I am sure in time, given Airfix's fixation with Spits will bear fruit for the one you desire...it's just a matter of time. I was requesting a kit of more modest development cost, which is probably why they were able to respond to the market when costs are tight...I was patient for 5 years, along with many others who wanted to see this Jaguar...keep the faith! 👍🏻

Any Griffon engined Spit in 24th scale would indeed be awesome. I was thinking of you, Peter, during the presentation and wondering what you might think. Like you I am pretty chuffed with the announcements- the only issue now is explaining to the commander-in-chief about everything I have ordered!

Laminar Flow Designs are releasing a 1/24 Mk XIVe conversion kit for the Airfix Mk VIII/IX is that helps. It looks amazing too. My holy grail kit has always been a 1/24 lowback Mk XIVe and this year I'll be getting one! Can't wait.

    • @pauloftarsus3843

@@gorlestondoug Yes. I built every available version of the Spitfire for friends and family. But tbose were all in the 1/32 and 1/24 scale since I prefer the larger scales for building. So those versions are limited to the Mk 1, V, IX, and XVIe. Ages ago I tried building the Revel Mk 24 and was disappointed at the lack of fine detail that went into that kit. Zukei Mura kits have raised the bar for me and as a areospace engineer, I thrive on the engineering and parts quality that modern kits now have. (Minibase SU-33) But what I do not understand or more accept is the fact that one can build nearly every version of the ME109 and FW190/TA152 in 1/32 scale. But for some reason, the same can not be said for British WWII fighters. Why? Why such attention for Nazi fighters and not "Freedom" figjters. If the war went the other way, would we have every British fighter model and version available? Is their some psycholological kink here dealing with "trophy" collecting the war machines of the defeated enemy???
