Man, noone ever gives props to Johnny and Yosaku in this arc. They literally stopped the villagers from killing themselves and even went to actually fight Arlong as soon as they heard Nami's story lol GOATs tbh
I recently rewatched that scene and they say "Burn their images into your eyes," then I jumped to episode 1000 where every Straw Hat member gets their own moment and splash graphic. *chef's kiss.

This will be a reccuring theme for Luffy. If he declare you as his friend, then that's good enough for him to help you, he need no context, need no excuses, no sad backstory, whoever's ass on the receiving end will guaranteed be kicked, lmao.
Surely the walk to arlong park is phenomenal and epic as hell but that line "Which one of you is Arlong?" damn.. Arlong is well known along the East Blue for his brutality but Luffy doesn't give a single shit who he is. He is the reason why Nami is crying and hurt, that's enough reason to beat the f out of him. One of my favorite arcs from my favorite anime. Emily Rudd played Nami so well in the Netflix live adaptation, especially the ending part at the end here. Every One Piece's fan deserves to see it.

just explaining a litle bit; luffy don't want hear her past because he don't care if she was a good or bad people he just think; "from now on she is my friend, no matter the past"! so like a poem without even know the reasson he saw is friend crying and asking help; so of course luffy gona help is friend, just her tears is enouth to make him mad.
This whole scene is amazing really, Luffy didn't need to know the backstory or anything, he just knew his friend needed his help and the moment she asked for it he was there! The music on the walk paired with Johnny and Yosaku's speech just builds up hype even more, just so damn good! Early One Piece at it's very best.
This still is a tearjerker no matter how many times ive seen it but its honestly tame in comparison to a good handful of others. this show ill make you discover some crazy emotional range.
Fun fact, Zoro actually heard Nami's whole story, but he acted like he was asleep the whole time, as you can clearly see, as soon as he woke up he was ready to take down Arlong alone with Sanji and Ussop, which makes their walk to Arlong even more epic.
