Bruce said since he was poor growing up he would wear brown canvas pants because they wouldn't wear out as fast as jeans, so the Ash outfit might literally just be the clothes he was wearing at the time of filming the first Evil Dead.

I was walking down the street and had four hours between teaching English lessons here in Japan and saw the poster outside a movie theater for "CAPTAIN SUPERMARKET".

I disagree with Mike and Rich on the second Act, mostly because randomly coming across those insane scenes on television is what introduced me to Army of Darkness.
I was waiting for my friend's dad to pick me up because he was giving both of us a ride to the movies (I was 14/15) and while I waited I came across the mini-Ash scene on Sci Fi. The whole sequence was so batshit, off-kilter, and tonally weird to me that I couldn't stop watching it. I went on to describe it to my friend on our ride to the movies and his dad chimes in 'Oh yeah, that's Army of Darkness! Great Film.'

    • @Lucifronz
      @Lucifronz 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

It's classic Evil Dead. It's what makes the series so great. The first film is fine and all, but the batshit crazy nonsense of 2 is what people love about it to this day, and if Army of Darkness didn't include it, it would have been a loss.
They make a fair point about how it's wasting the film's concept a bit, but frankly, this is an Evil Dead movie first and a time travel medieval film second and that's important to keep in mind.
This film was actually my introduction to the series as well. I had never watched 1 or 2 until many many years later. I only knew of Army of Darkness and I thought it was bonkers but highly entertaining.
I'm completely biased and won't listen to complaints about it. I fully admit that.
But come on, the movie's gold. The nonsense that makes no sense is what makes it so great. Whereas it would hold back other films it just makes this one fucking fun. It's clearly self-aware of its nonsense.

My guess for the R rating is the scene where the Deadites have captured a group of women, and you definitely get full boobage.

His final shirt is sometimes called a bib shirt, or a cavalry shirt. Except it has too many buttons - it's like Cliff Secord's (Rocketeer) double breasted leather jacket, but in denim shirt form. They don't seem to be for sale, and may just actually only exist in these movies.

In the age of actors like Ryan Reynolds and Chris Pratt being a leading man in everything, Bruce Campbell would've absolutely been a big star had he been born later... It's too bad, he was just a _little_ ahead of his time.

i love that Jay and i had the same experience with this hahaha
im a little younger, so for me it was 2001/2 in jr high, my buddy Patrick and i got the VHS after seeing Evil Dead 1/2 after getting into Romero and horror, we bought it in the bargain bin at Blockbuster..
and literally watched it like every day for a year
other than Kung Pow no other movie was like that for me, still so legendary. i had all 12 special editions and the necronomicon version haha
ive always been curious about that random face in the tree during the evil dead vision before he hides
I would say Evil Dead 2 miiiight be better..its so damn good.. but idk, Army is more quotable and iconic
although the alternate ending SUCKS, where he wakes up in a post apocalyptic future hahah, the real ending in S mart is so much better, it also changes some lines like when he shoots evil ash, instead of good bad im the guy with the gun he just says something short and crappy hahah
i miiight agree with mike and rich that act 2 drags a bit, but dont hate it as much
also of course ted raimi cameo at the end, always shoved somewhere, even in grandma in 2

My first time seeing this movie was on the Sci-Fi channel, with no context. I figured out it was a sequel pretty quickly, and being a horror movie geek I'd heard of Evil Dead, but since I was under 13 and this was pre-torrent days I'd never seen the movies and didn't make any connection between the titles until I looked it up. Definitely made sure to record the movie next time the channel ran it, I think I might even still have it mixed in with my MST3K recordings from around the same time in a box in my dad's garage.

The first time I saw this movie I was flipping through the channels and caught it on the Sci Fi channel, and it was the scene in he windmill when his mini reflections crawl into his mouth and make him grow another head, and I was just struck like what in the actual fuck is this movie. Then the graveyard scene happens and I'm like is this supposed to be funny because this is hilarious. Ended up switching away from it without finding out what it was and didn't find out until years later it was the 3rd Evil Dead movie. Then I bought it on VHS and watched it over and over again because it rules.
