imagine sinbad 2, a revival with Proteus, Sinbad, and Marina as a throuple sailing high seas/doing Proteus errands with cameos from Eris, and other Greek mythological events happening that they could get entangled up in.
Growing up, I found Eris scary and manipulative. Now I realize if I had her power, causing drama within a kingdom *might* be fun--though being bound by verbal agreements could be tricky... Too bad Disney didn't go through with this, but Dreamworks was made for this. Wish they had a Greek myths universe.
i think Eris is meant to be mostly hands off just like the Greek gods in mythology interfered indirectly rarely and sent others to stop people in their place. I think it was a testament to Greek mythology in how gods tended to mess with humans.
Ohhh yah that's true! Although I do think it could've added more to the movie if she was more active. Like how Hades played more of an active role in Disney's Hercules
"We need to go to Tartarus, the prison of the Greek titans, to steal the book back from Eris, the Greek goddess of discord." "..." "Hydra, minotaur, cyclops." "Oh maybe it is Greek!"
All that in spite of Sinbad being Arabian in origin. Eh, it was a good movie all the same. Can't get mad about something so trivial. Just gotta consider this Sinbad separate from the Arabian Nights version.
@@TekkamanSeraphim Nah, he can be the Arabian Nights version. Mythological heroes doing crossovers with other mythologies is a *great* idea, actually. We should do more of that.
@@TekkamanSeraphim Tbh as an Arab it's pretty disappointing, I love greek mythology, but Sinbad is one of the most well known figure in Arabian litterature, and you don't find positive representations of arab culture often in hollywood movies, hell Alladin is the only one I can think about(kinda). Sinbad stories are already influenced by greek mythology, so it wouldn't have been that hard to tell the same story and still acknowledge his origin. Doesn't mean I don't like the movie though.
Sinbad's stories make a LOT of references to Greek mythology, which makes sense because the early Arabs did a lot of trade with the greeks and later the Romans. In particular, his third, four, and fifth voyage (each a separate story) might as well just be the Odyssey.
24:18 Looking back, I realized that I was so accustomed to seeing Eris looking calm and collected, that seeing her look genuinely angry here (especially in her giant form) is legitimately terrifying! 😨
Sinbad's line of "I saw you" reads less like he fell in love at first sight with her to me and more like that was when he realized he and Proteus live such vastly different lives that he (Sinbad) could never truly "fit in/belong" in Proteus' life (and since I'm bi and this movie is Made For The Bi's imo I also interpret this as Sinbad being in love with Proteus when they were younger and comparing himself to Marina because of course Proteus will never feel the same way when he has options like Marina to choose from instead)
I also forgot about this movie because i watched it only once i wonder why it wasn't more popular . Wait !? Sinbad is Brad Pitt,Eris is Michelle Pfeiffer wow i knew that sensual voice sounded familiar ,Proteus is Joseph Fiennes and Marina is Catherine Zeta Jones. Oh it had budget of 60 million dollars but only grossed 26 million in USA because at the time it was in cinemas Pirates of the Carribbean also had showing and became a huge hit.
14:44 i think he says this because back on the boat, sinbad had without thinking immediately pushed proteus out of the way to save him from the cetus tentacle, and got caught himself, as it was just his first instinctive reaction
omg YESSSSS. This movie and cast are fantastic, and Michelle Pfeiffer as Eris KILLS it. Iconic. My sister and I can legit quote all of her lines and mannerisms lmao. Love the sequence with the sirens(?) and the true friendship between the bros
The ending with Eris like that feels fitting to the way her character was portrayed throughout the movie. She was an opposing force but always, like you said, in a relative passive way. She was calm, seductive, plotting, that kind of stuff. If she would have been more active, maybe then a fight would have been more fitting. But like that the bigger triumph over a schemer has to be to beat them with their own play. With twists and turns.
Have you seen Stardust (2007)? Seeing you watch these fantasy/adventure movies makes me think you would really enjoy it. *You are right! This is based in greek mithology.* Eris is the goddess of discord, daughter of Zeus and Hera. but the funny thing is that Hera rejected her because she wasn't pretty enough.
@@ashyroy9454 Exactly! In the mithilogy Hera is supposed to be the goddess of marriage and family, but as Rick Riordan pointed out in his books, Hera wants a PERFECT family. So she will descard everything that doesn't go according to her plans.
Eris is actually the daughter of Aphrodite. According to Greek legend, she didn't get invited to the wedding of Peleus and Thetis. During the wedding feast, she threw the Apple of Discord in the crowd in which she inscribed "To the Most Beautiful." It was caught by Paris, who gave it to Helen of Troy. However, she was already married, and this is what started the Trojan War.
I do think leaving was pretty loyal of Sinbad, He believed that he wouldn't be able to hold himself back if he stayed and he didn't want to cause Proteus pain.

Another underrated and awesome animated movie!! This was really present in my childhood And oh jesus... I will never look Proteus with the same eyes again lol
Well Eris is the Greek Goddess of Discord and Strife (and possibly chaos as well), she's the one who threw the golden apple with the words 'For The Fairest' into the middle of a wedding party that she wasn't invited to which led to Hera (Queen of the Gods and Goddess of Marriage and Motherhood), Athena (Goddess of Wisdom and War Strategy) and Aphrodite (Goddess of Beauty and Love) into arguing over who it should be for, which led to the Judgement of Paris, which led to the Trojan War. But I first heard of Sinbad as one of the stories from 'Arabian Nights' (long story short it was a lot longer than this story and had little in common with it) and I don't think this story is set in Greece. In any case yes the Fates do cut a thread every time a mortal's life ends but they're not the ones who share one eye (that' the grey sisters) but they don't have much to do with Eris. In any case, Tartarus is not Eris's domain (it's the bad place in the Underworld - all the dead go to the underworld and then are judged when they arrived to either go to Tartarus, The Asphodel Fields or Elysium but Hades rules over all of them), and I don't know whether or not she'd have anything to do with sea monsters (do sea monsters fall under the jurisdiction of the God of the Sea Poseidon or under her jurisdiction as a discord Goddess) but what they got right was that when a God or Goddess swears an oath they are actually bound to it (marriage vows don't often count though).
I read a lot of fantasy books where gods and goddess of mythology were not allowed to directly influence events in the human world. Meaning Eris could cause things to happen like sending her creatures etc, but she was not allowed to directly attack Sinbad as it would not be considered 'fair', at least this is how I saw it.
NO WAY OMGG! This is the first time I've seen you, but the fact that you posted this just made me subscribe! This is one of my favorite animated movie and it's SO underrated. Tysm for watching!!! :')
What I love most about Eris is her hair. The way it animates in the movie is so satisfying. Its movement is spiritual and could definitely be called 'beautiful chaos'; like her title.
In defense of Eris being a passive character: Greek mythology often portrays her as a troublemaker (kinda like Loki). In the few myths than involve her, she would stir up strife and chaos basically for the lulz. Think the golden apple that ended up causing the war of Troy. Eris stealing the book, framing Sinbad and gaslighting him into abandoning his friend is not only in-character for the myth, but also probably just a Sunday morning of entertainment for herself.
How are you so moronic, yet so correct at guessing?? AT GUESSING!!!

@@newtoatheism5968 Indeed, Marina was handled quite well. she isn't just meant to be Sinbad's love interest. she only gets on his ship to make sure Sinbad holds his end of the deal, and she finally gets to experience the ocean for herself and be her own character, sure they fall in love on one voyage, but unlike other love stories that take place over a few days, i feel this was done with class and character development.
@@AndreNitroX I agree.
Looking back on this movie, I feel fuckin' terrible for Proteus. The man could've just done nothing and lived his best life. He deserves better than Sinbad.
He came back and was willing to die, sure it took some time to convince himself but he did it. He also didn't steal Marina cause she is a person with her own mind and fell for Sinbad.
It was his decision to let Marina go. I also dont think he loved her in a romantic way.
Another classic gem that is underrated. What I loved best is that Sinbad's crew actually got some good scene's.
I always kinda saw the reason behind Sinbad leaving as, like, he saw this beautiful girl that was already meant for his best friend, and rather then risk coming between them and possibly ruining his friendship, he took off. And we can see that he was kinda right to take off? She was with him for, what, 10 days and that was enough for her to decide she wanted to go off with him-
Now that you mentioned Schaffrilas, I CANT BELIEVE HE PUT IT SO LOW IN HIS RANKING. This is top tier Dreamworks quality from the plot, the animation (they blended 2d and 3d really well and omg Eris of course), the music, the characters... need I say more?
Are we not gonna talk about her outfit, and how good it looks on her❤️
Just wanna say, in the french dub, Marina has the nicest accent which made her and Eris really confusing for my closeted bi heart when I was young haha
Truuuue 😶😶😶
Isn't she voiced by Monica Bellucci in the french dub ? Cause I remember that in my dumb young boy's head back in the days I was so confused by the fact that she sounded exactly like Cleopatra in Asterix et Obelix 😂😂😂
imagine sinbad 2, a revival with Proteus, Sinbad, and Marina as a throuple sailing high seas/doing Proteus errands with cameos from Eris, and other Greek mythological events happening that they could get entangled up in.
It’s about a completely different god but Eris pops up for no reason other than to flirt with random characters and roast everyone
Kale: Does anything.
LOL, wut? That's awesome!
My favorite is when he pulls up the railing from the ship and uses it as a weapon.
PROTEUS DID DESERVE SO MUCH BETTER!!! 😭😭😭
Even the animators thought so! They where gonna give him a Disney Princess look-alike at the end of the movie. (Commentary)
Growing up, I found Eris scary and manipulative. Now I realize if I had her power, causing drama within a kingdom *might* be fun--though being bound by verbal agreements could be tricky...
Too bad Disney didn't go through with this, but Dreamworks was made for this. Wish they had a Greek myths universe.
this is.... my favourite movie of all time. the soundtrack? fantastic. the animation holds up so beautifully, esp eris's hair???? oh my god
Random observation

Surfshark, uses teal
Kronk: "oh yeah, it's all coming together"
Sophia: "Proteus deserved better"
ME: "yes but also Sinbad - I would quite literally sell my soul to sail the open seas with that man."
i think Eris is meant to be mostly hands off just like the Greek gods in mythology interfered indirectly rarely and sent others to stop people in their place. I think it was a testament to Greek mythology in how gods tended to mess with humans.
Ohhh yah that's true! Although I do think it could've added more to the movie if she was more active. Like how Hades played more of an active role in Disney's Hercules
"We need to go to Tartarus, the prison of the Greek titans, to steal the book back from Eris, the Greek goddess of discord."
"..."
"Hydra, minotaur, cyclops."
"Oh maybe it is Greek!"
24:18
Looking back, I realized that I was so accustomed to seeing Eris looking calm and collected, that seeing her look genuinely angry here (especially in her giant form) is legitimately terrifying!
I completely forgot I used to watch this all the time as a kid. It's definitely the reason for my tastes in men. x3
Simping for Kale and I'm here for it
The thumbnail is 100% accurate
7:31 Oh, I am eternally in love with how Eris is animated in this film. Her hair is constantly flowing as if she's underwater.
The score of this film is a true masterpiece.
Those water girls are called sirens I believe they’re able to manipulate any man to fall inlove with them and then the men die 🤓
I love her smoky dress uh the animation is gorgeousec
The character designs are stunning
You have to watch the Mask of Zorro with Antonio Banderas and Katherine Zeta-Jones. The movie is a national treasure.
She was calm, seductive,
plotting, that kind of stuff. If she would have been more active, maybe then a fight would have been more
fitting. But like that the bigger triumph over a schemer has to be to beat them with their own play. With
twists and turns.
4:50 I wish, this is painfully heterosexual when we've got Proteus and Sinbad RIGHT THERE
I had a crush on the theme. Man, a piano duet on Let The Games Begin would drive me to the brink of nostalgia!
Have you seen Stardust (2007)? Seeing you watch these fantasy/adventure movies makes me think you would really enjoy it. It's on Netflix and has everything: Witches, Pirates, Princes, etc and in the simplest way to explain it with no spoilers, it's about a man trying to retrieve a fallen star and give it to the woman he has a crush on before she gets engaged in a few days. I love it!
I love Stardust!
@@SophiaPhannn I'm glad you love it too! I swear I watch it once a year, it's a great comfort movie 😂
the artists/animators on this movie need all the kudos in the world 🥱 i said what i said
Eris is the greek goddess of chaos and kerfuffle. AKA Discordia for the romans out there
I love 'Goddess of Kerfuffle' as a title 😆
Kerfuffle is my new favorite word, god I love it.
Thank you for defending and not forgetting about Proteus 😭 Man deserved better!
Also you are so big brained for your thoughts on Kale!
This is the first time I genuinely enjoyed a sponsored ad because you're just so adorable! I was smiling the whole time lol.
Btw, Eris? YES. YES PLEASE.
This movie has stuck with me so much. I can't believe how many of the images I intimately recognized even though I only saw this movie like twice as a child. It really stuck with me!
*You are right! This is based in greek mithology.*
Eris is the goddess of discord, daughter of Zeus and Hera. but the funny thing is that Hera rejected her because she wasn't pretty enough.
It's a common thing with Hera. Remember Hephaestus? Got yeeted from Olympus because he was not pretty enough
Eris fucking went “yeah bitch you wanna bet”
I do think leaving was pretty loyal of Sinbad, He believed that he wouldn't be able to hold himself back if he stayed and he didn't want to cause Proteus pain.
THIS MOVIE MADE MY CHILDHOOD 🤩
That was the last film for traditional animation at Dreamworks studio by pencils and drawings. All they do is computer animation and forget traditional animations
I miss 2D animation 😔
@@SophiaPhannn Go take a look at the channel Don Bluth started! He's working on bringing back the quality 2D animation!!
Edit: Also, glad to see I'm not the only one that found themselves with a crush on Kale. Everyone always crushes on Sinbad and Proteus, and I'm just sitting in the Kale Corner all by myself. He needs some love too... 🤣
The crush I had and still have on Eris is unreal. the hair! I swear my love for wavy black hair is because of her. I was ruined.
Yes I always liked that she was pretty and not ugly like most villains are
@@newtoatheism5968 right especially for a female antagonist. which is super rare.
@@aristothethrone9032 the pretty part is rare but there’s a lot of female villains I’m thinking Ursula Malifacent evil queen and others

I will always love 2D films. I don’t know if it’s nostalgia but it’s Comforts me in a way. Oh by the way have you ever watched any movies made by cartoon saloon I would suggest watching song of the sea that movie is amazing
Yes! I found my copy about two years ago and watched it. This was one of the movies I watched a lot during my childhood. Eris music is so good.
now you just need to watch Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron and Pirnce of Egypt and my life would be complete
Fun fact: Sinbad was a real human being who once sailed the Arabian seas and is believed to be from the area of a city now known as Dubai, UAE.
Eris was literally my gay awakening as a kid. To this day, she lives in my mind rent free
Another underrated and awesome animated movie!!
This was really present in my childhood
And oh jesus...
3:40 Eris is the goddess of discord in Greek Mythology!
I read a lot of fantasy books where gods and goddess of mythology were not allowed to directly influence events in the human world. Meaning Eris could cause things to happen like sending her creatures etc, but she was not allowed to directly attack Sinbad as it would not be considered 'fair', at least this is how I saw it.
eris could slap me and i would thank her.
yea, i said it, im not ashamed.
(congrats on the sponsor, you totally deserve it
She could snap my thread, iykwis
Will always be one of my favourite animated movies, no idea how it wasn't a box office hit
22:05 lol you just might be. You even said Sinbad is cute, but not that cute. And she says that too after giving him the book lol
There is a little short after the movie about Sinbad and Marina going to the Cyclops' Den.(:
