The tragic thing for me was seeing how far Ivan has gone to keep Till safe. He literally disguised himself as a security guard to get Till out of that bar. I can only imagine the other things he’s done. I believe that’s the whole reason why he became the fan favorite. He knew being loved by the aliens would give him more freedom to protect and keep Till alive. As the favorite, he had to go through horrifying things but it was all worth it if it meant Till was still there. Truly, Ivan is the best character for me.

Ivan sacrificed everything, even himself, for Till. The fact that Ivan is dressed in white (like Sua) like he's a corpse while Till is dressed in black (like Mizi) like he's going to a funeral is heartbreaking.
i just realized that in the first round it's also the same, the one who wear white dies, and the one who wear black live but with grieve and regrets probably
There's something truly sad about how Till tries to push Ivan away when he kisses him, but just goes limp when Ivan starts choking him. For a character that's always seen fighting back, when his best friend seemingly tried to kill him, he just accepted it. I think Till went into this competition with the expectation that he would lose, maybe even hoping he would lose since now the only thing that made life worth it to him (Mizi) was gone. Then, his realization of what Ivan did, the fact that Ivan must've felt for him what he felt towards Mizi - that Till dying would've made life pointless for Ivan...
Im wondering if luca will try to provoke till the same way he provoked mizi, since he sees this as a way to secure victory. And i wanna see how till would react to that

Ik it’s been like 9 months but I wanted you all to know the reason why the music is so fast and loud when Ivan is dying is because he was in pain and afraid of death, but still willing for Till, in contrast when till died his heartbeat was soft and slow because he accepted that he would die and was happy to see Mizi.
I think what sickens me the most about this is that Ivan didn't even look happy when he was kissing Till, and he died smiling because Till finally acknowledged him
I thought he smiled because he knew for sure he was gonna die at that point and till would be saved, he looked panicked a moment before when he saw till was unresponsive

Can I tell you about my Oc for Alien Stage? This idea, kinda has been done before. Especially with the original Macross Anime. But hear me out though . What if the male character I'm making who loves Ivan back , is half Alien and half human . But he was exiled from society . I know this is a mess but it's a draft idea so far . We haven't seen half human, half alien characters in Alien Stage. And I think it would be interesting. I haven't decided how Ivan and my Oc will meet yet. But I want Ivan to have a guy who loves him too. I think Ivan will teach my Oc what it means to be human . I was a bit inspired by the original Macross Anime and it's movie Do You Remember Love? And Gunslinger Girl / Violet Evergarden for making my Oc. I named him Noah . What do you think? 👀

so i've been rewatching the rounds and i realized something. in round 5 when mizi starts beating the shit out of luka, the guards come and pull her off of him, wrangle her away, and only after all that just START to point a gun at her head. but because of all that, the resistance had time to come in and save her. so when ivan started doing the same thing, they began shooting him down immediately. because if they didn't, it would give the resistance time to come in and save him, and they don't want that to happen again. that's why none of the guards approached. they would rather kill him quickly than give opportunity for saving 😭
Anyone realize that Till had a shine in his eyes when Ivan went to kiss him, and even after the kiss his eyes shined. After Ivan died (he's alive please please please), that shine never went away, probably because he finally realized that there was someone who liked him, yet he never knew until it was too late.
Something that i realised is how Till says "Let me drown in you" (0:51) to Mizi because he loves and adore Mizi, but she isn't interested in him which makes him crave that love from her even more. He wants to drown in her love but he cant because her love wasnt meant for him, it was meant for Sua. Ivan on the other hand says "I'll drown in you" (2:20) indicating that he can and WILL drown in his love for Till. "Drowning" in this case implies that he'll lose himself the deeper he goes. So this means he'll willingly love Till, even if it means he will lose himself in the process.

What’s so heartbreaking about Ivan strangling Till to save him, is the symbol of Ivan taking off Till’s collar that has shown up so many times throughout the series. In their backstory, we see Ivan taking off Till’s restraints on multiple occasions, especially the collar over his mouth. He does it back in Ankat Garden when they make their escape attempt, and he’s shown doing it in the flashback in this episode as well. While the aliens want to stifle Till’s chaotic and rebellious nature, Ivan loves that part about Till, and he wants to free him from his bindings, no matter how loud and violent he can sometimes be. But, when Mitzi disappeared, Till lost his rebellious spirit. As he sings during this round he looks defeated, hopeless, with no fight left to give. Ivan can’t stand for that. He has to help Till get his spirit back, no matter the cost. By Ivan’s final act being strangling Till, what he’s really doing is taking of his collar. He reaches for Till’s neck, for the hundredth time, for the last time, intent, as always, to free Till from the aliens. And when his hands fall away, Till is free -free from the fate that awaited him, and maybe, just maybe, with Ivan’s death, Till can regain his rebellious spirit again.
I hadn't thought of the parallel between choking and he being constantly the one to remove Till's collar and muzzle. Thank you for the renewed pain, I'll got to sleep crying again
But why did Ivan have to die? I hope Till loved Ivan a little bit. I think Ivan was loved by the aliens and that's why he could be saved. If that happens, I hope they will be together.

I think one of the saddest things about this is how when we see Till’s pov Ivan is never in it, but when we see Ivan’s pov Till is EVERYWHERE. Every other person or face is not important like Till is to Ivan, meanwhilr Till doesn’t even SEE Ivan. And he knew, he knew his love wasn’t reciprocated, it’s so clear in his lyrics too 😭😭 I feel like Ivan knew he was going to die the second he turned back to go with Til…. this is the only alien stage round that actually made me cry. i’ve analyzed it so many times because it just hurts watching it and i know that’s what makes it so good
Everyones saying that Till is singing like he's given up but like can we talk about how Ivan sings? He's confident and determined because he knows what he has to do😭
Like this was a major jump from his original song, disobeying in like every conceivable manner like he sang the whole part without letting the other guy sing, he killed the guitar alien all with a smirk and passion on his face. He sang with more passion and intensity in his voice and the majority was in English (I don’t think that’s really apart of it I just find it neat). However now he’s quite the opposite. He is singing like how Alien stage is intended to be sung, the genre and tone of the song is completely different than the previous song. While his voice is still really good it lacks the same spark the original song has since it was a huge shift. I know a lot of people point out how Till dresses like if he was going to a funeral and Ivan to wedding. But I also want to point out how different their wardrobes are from the original songs. In Round 2 till was wearing a white loose t-shirt with [not too] loose pants. He also had no shoes which again I feel was meant to show his rebellious nature. Again his current appearance is the opposite a tucked in? (Could be wrong) black shirt that is now missing any design that the last one had. As well as the tight black pants, it’s more form-fitting like he has decided to con”form” with alien stage ever since mizi disappeared. While it’s obvious that he lost his spark and is going through grief and depression because of it the I like how the a simple black outfit can reflect that. Now on to Ivan’s outfit. The most clear difference between his previous and current outfit is the color, from black to white. However there is more about his outfit is that it was constricted I am unsure on what exactly it is (belt?) however now In round 6 those restrictions are no longer seen on him. His current outfit is (recycling the same thing i said about till) except Ivan’s outfit is less form fitting, looser reflecting that he no has anything else to hide because he already knows he will die (he definitely had this planned out) it’s much asymmetrical and has more flow in comparison to his previous outfit. I absolutely adore how Vivinos designs the characters and their outfits to reflect the state they’re in.
I just noticed this but- During his first song Till sang a determined love song, while Ivan sang a sorrowful song. Now Ivan is singing a determined love song, while Till is singing a sorrowful song.
Ivan is the true Gigachad of the story, he got what he wanted (made Till aware of his feelings) and sacrificed himself in order to protect who he loved, his black sorrow.

i noticed that during till’s last line before the kiss, he’s actually not singing (2:58), meaning he was purposefully trying to lose, and when ivan noticed this he made sure till would win by acting “aggressively” on stage 🥲
You know, if you compared Ivan's performance in black swan to here, Ivan sang less emotionally here. What I theorised was that the more emotions you put in your singing, the higher points you will get. Cause if you were to hear closely when till was singing, when he thought of sua his voice got raspier. Ivan's voice was similarly like that in black Swan when he started thinking of till. Ivan wanted to throw the entire performance all along by singing more monotonously. Then at the end, till gave up, like what you pointed out. Ivan doubled down and did the choking act, but probably kissed him first because fuck it all right?
Crying because someone said that the erraticness of the guitar in 2:45 is signifying how fast his heart is racing compared to round 7 when till is in his final breaths except his is more "its finally over" while ivan's is "not yet i cant go yet"
Also during the kissing scene his heart has a soothing pace with a sense of desperation which then the guitar starts back up with that same erratic sound at 3:28 and finally ends with silence.

When you realise the shine in Ivan's eyes was gone when he was choking and kissing Till, but it came back when he saw Till's score go up and at the end when he knew that Till was gonna live and go to the next round

I love how much Alien Stage reflects a lot of cheesy TV tropes like the love... circle? Triangle? Where everyone likes everyone but never back thing. But instead of playing it for a joke or something silly, it's written in a way that breaks your heart into a million pieces because the contestants' love is the one thing they got to choose for themselves.
the last part hit hard, and you are right, ALL of it is not their choice, their clothing, how they are shown to their fans, their music (only Till got to sing a song he created alone)
I know people keep saying we don't see any trace of Ivan in Till's eyes until it was already too late, but I think it's more tragic to point out that we do see Till 'see' Ivan during his section. When they were kids, when Ivan had no light in his eyes. So, I think it'a more appropriate to say that the end was more like the first time Till ever saw the light in Ivan's eyes and been able realize that that light had always been for him.

I think it's also because for once Till looked at Ivan in the eyes. It's sad though that in his last moments Ivan is finally in Tills eyeline, yet would never have the same impact as Mizi.
What I noticed, what I understood and how I interpreted this. 1.- In the first seconds of this round we hear the beatings of a heart while we watch different moments of Tills life and the experiments that he has endured, almost like he is watching his life pass in front of his eyes. He expects to die at the end of this round and when his actual face is revealed it shows how everything he has gone through is finally taking a toll on him (of course this happens after his reason to live is no where to be found, without Mizi he doesn’t see a reason to move forward). 2.- When he starts singing and the picture behind him shows we can notice the differences between his personality now and how it was back when mizi was “alive”, he is clearly boring the audience as they all look at him with an unimpressed gaze (also, he is competing against a fan favorite). And the phrase “ I don’t want to let you go” makes reference to mizi. Every single line he sings and almost every memory makes reference to her and to her death, Till genuinely thinks he is dead without her. 3.-Then we get the first and only memory of Ivan. From Till’s perspective we get that both of them got into a fight when they were kids and the gaze that Ivan used to look at Till is rather…. Sadistic Unbothered?. I think this is the perception that Till has of Ivan, he isn’t able to read him and therefore has always thought Ivan was annoying him for the fun of it. This scene shifts to a memory of Ivan, as he finds Till knocked out in the karaoke bar. 4.- It’s clear to see the parallel between both memories, the only thing that makes a difference is the way that Ivan looks at Till, his eyes are sparkling, as he is looking at his beloved. 5.- This parallel between scenes shows us that Till doesn’t actually know about Ivan’s feeling for him and that he has always interpreted them as hatred or dismissive, in the other hand, Ivan actually looks at Till lovingly in every memory of himself, he even has the permission to take of the collar of Till. (I don’t think every human can take off the collar of everyone else, but Ivan CAN. This makes me wonder if he is the one who usually saves till and takes care of him, to the point that the guardians have ALLOWED him to do so). 6.-Ivan lyrics also makes reference to Till in every moment. “Even if your cold words carve scars beneath my eyes…” this clearly makes reference to the way Till treats Ivan (which I assume is not pleasant, as Till is almost unaware of his existence). For example: In a community post we see Till complaining about Ivan wishing he would go away, he thinks that Ivan’s presence is making Mizi go away. Ivan just states that Mizi never plays with him, the one that does so is Ivan. 7.- Is almost as if Mizi takes the place of Ivan in every memory of Till, that’s the level of obsession Till has of Mizi. 8.- I wouldn’t be surprised if Ivan was constantly devastated from the things Tills says. This lack of acknowledgement forces Ivan to do drastic things like getting in a physical fight with Till and sadly this is the ONLY memory Till has of Ivan (paragraph 3) so this drastic measures actually work. 9.- The next scene reflects what actually Ivan wants to be noticed, the looks of affection he gives, the gentleness. Nonetheless, the only thing that gets a reacting from Till are the things Ivan doesn’t like (dramatic gestures). And I think Ivan doesn’t really like the grand gestures because of his judgment of Sua and her decision to die for Mizi. (The ultimate sacrifice just for the sake of being remembered). 10.- I want to make another point, in round 3 we can see a flash back of a red flower crown flying past Ivan and Till going after it. I think what happened is that Mizi made this flower crown for Sua, the flower crown flew away and till wanted to get it back for Mizi (who wanted it for Sua) Mizi and Till go into the home of an alien flower (also shown in the memories) and the flower eats this flower crown, making Till try and fight with the alien plant to get it back for Mizi, Till ends up getting hurt and Ivan just watches from the back. (This is what I can deduce with round 3 flashbacks). In this round we see another flashback of that same day (maybe) where Ivan is watching the plant form the back and one where he is touching its teeth, I think either Ivan calmed down the plant or he managed to get the flower crown from its mouth without getting hurt, whatever happened it culminated on Ivan getting Tills wound treated (Mizi probably fled the scene or trusted Ivan to take care of Tills, as they were close friends even if Tills doesn’t seem to recall that). 11.- Then Ivan is seen caressing Tills wounded face in a hospital and finally Tills running away from their attempted escape. This is even more devastating as we can now interpret their escape as Ivan’s way of saving Till for the millionth time, expecting to be saved at the same time, expecting Till to be grateful and running away with him because maybe, just maybe, Till will care enough about both of them to move forward and finally acknowledge the sacrifices Ivan constantly makes for him, but alas, Till runs away and decides their fate. 12.- We see a glimpse of real life Till being depressed as Ivan pours his heart out in the chorus. “In your gaze where I’m seen…” he doesn’t even look at Ivan in the memories nor in real life. Till cannot see the suffering in Ivan, and Ivan just sees the suffering of Till. Ivan was never seen, every glimpse of his memory he longs for the gaze of Till, but he never acquires it. 13.- “Face to face we dance…” Ivan keeps looking at Till, trying to make it about them. “With our story…” Till looks in front of him thinking about Mizi. He stops singing and Ivan directly starts his plan. Even when he KNOWS Ivan is heading towards him, Till is not bothered to look at him. 3:04. Until he has to. 14.- And for the first time the roles change, The one with sparking eyes is Till and Ivan just looks at him without anything. The first kiss they shared and Till is still unable to read Ivan. For him, this came out of nowhere 3:15. His surprise changes to alert when Ivan grabs him by the throat. Ivan isn’t even hurting him. 15.- Ivan is concerned for the lack of resistance that Till shows, Ivan has fell in love with the resilience and defiance of Tills personality and now it’s nowhere to be found. The numbers change and Ivan’s plan works, he starts being killed for the “aggression” he is committing. Even when he is dying, till is not looking at him. Finally he lets go, as he ensures his loved one will survive. And as he falls his last picture is Till finally looking at him. Ivan smiles as a last goodbye, the smile is enough to make Till understand everything he hadn’t noticed before. There is no people, no Mizi, no aliens, no cameras and no microphones. It’s only Ivan, as the spotlight focuses on them, Till realizes he has lost the only thing that was constant, the reason he has actually managed to survive this long. Meanwhile, Ivan is now the thing he despised, he has done this last grand gesture to make Till look at him (paragraph 9). He has died in what he longed all along. Maybe it was never meant to be. Edit: OMG GUYS YOU ARE SO NICE.
I didn't even notice that Til stopped singing until I listened to the official video from Studio LICO. In this video you can hear him sing in the audio but if you watch his lips he stopped. That's why Ivan acted when he did, otherwise Til would have lost then and there.

i'd just like to point out the fact that ivan fell in love with till because of his rebellious attitude and his spirit, when he fought against that monster dog thing when he they were still kids at the episode for round three. and the fact that part of till had only shone out because mizi was there with him, presumably wanting to protect mizi by fighting back against the monster. i think ivan finally really starts to understand the extent of how much till loves mizi when he saw that till had no fighting spirit left in him to fight back when he choked him. to me, it wordlessly told ivan that he fell in love with the rebellious fire of a boy that was ignited by someone else. that till's hope was mizi, and that the fire would extinguish alongside her disappearance. that fight in till was never for ivan to fall in love with, it was for and because of the hope he gets from mizi.

It’s the way that at the end, after the painfully one sided kiss and the “choking” (which even if till wasn’t actually being choked it’s still painful to have someone grab your neck like that) Ivan gives one last small, gentle kiss knowing it’s the last thing he’ll ever do right before he dies

Something I noticed about Ivan is that I feel like, whenever Till looked like he was feeling down or looked like he was on the verge of giving up, Ivan would do things to purposefully grate on tills nerve in order to get him to fight. I think he did that because he fell in love with Till and his fighting spirit and never wanted to see it die out. I feel like it's also part of the reason why he kissed Till during the competition as well. Because of Mizi being gone, he looked like he was on the verge of giving up and Ivan didn't want that. Granted I'm just speculating, but it feels like a common theme.

it’s the fact that ivan holds on until the last bullet hits that makes me go crazy… he knew that if he let go on the first bullet, the aliens would have just saved him. so he kept pushing until the point of no return…and that’s why when the final killing bullet hits he smiles immediately before letting go…

Not so fun fact because I’m about to cry for a hundredth time because of this animation: I can’t pinpoint the timestamp because it’s such a small detail but it’s between 3:04 and 3:09 you can see Till’s eyes dilate when Ivan cups his face. Now there are many reasons eyes dilate from a medical condition or bright light but one that I felt was most fitting for this was an emotional trigger or response. In round 6 (maybe round 3 too?) Ivan is seen holding Till’s face when he is unconscious multiple times. This makes me feel like Till recognized Ivan’s touch even though he was asleep for those moments, a persons touch can still be recognizable. I think at that moment Till was thinking ‘That was Ivan’s touch all along?’ And it caused an emotional response from either shock or comfort because he may have felt comfort from Ivan’s touch even though they argue a lot, I can especially tell after the S/A of the purple alien at 1:07-1:18. After leaving him in a room unconscious there comes Ivan’s precious ass.. oh also not sure if anyone else noticed this but Ivan disguised himself as a security guard to get Ivan out of that studio place which shows up in Till’s memory so at least he remembers that(?) idk anyway I’m gonna go cry now byebye~
I find Till's development in this clip very interesting. You can see here that he's given up. He is the first to stop singing, he barely resists Ivan during the kiss. It's such a stark contrast to the first clip. Till from the past could put up a fight, but he doesn't now. Till is so devastated. On the cotrust, seeing Ivan's eagerness to fight for every bit of attention from Till, and his immense strength for self-sacrifice really breaks my heart.
Yeah, and he's like that because Mizi disappeared. In the first clip she was almost next to him and basically the song was dedicated to her. Now, with her missing, he feels like he has nothing to lose anymore and I find this pretty interesting since we know that Mizi loved Sua and showed no interest in Till. He's so in love with her and devoted it hurts...

Notice how starting from 2:54 of the vid, Ivan's eye lack those glint or white stuff on his eye, they only came back when, FIRST, when he was looking at the scores. Then SECOND, when he was shot for the last time. Notice how he lacked those glint while kissing Till. It's as if he wanted Till to hate him even more, so that the ending can be less painful. Notice how, even with the cold demeanor and forcing Till, at the end, he was able to be relieved that the person he loves most got to live. That even then, Ivan managed to show who he really is to Till before dying. Just like in Black Sorrow, Ivan's mask broke because of Till, and in the end, Ivan's end, it was still Till who broke that mask of his. Only Till.

Ivan doesn't want any good memories attached to him in Till's mind so that Till can continue fighting and live on with no heartbreak.
For some reason Ivan kissing Till is absolutely obliterating my heart, cause Ivan knows that his feelings aren't truly reciprocated, but he still kisses the one he is devoted to with such passion before sacrificing himself for that person - super painful 😭
ok but how the second kiss feels much more genuine. Like after he checks the scores he gives him a short gentle one that feels both like a reassurance and a goodbye. Since Ivan tends to always look out for him in the past I guess thats how his genuine emotions shows up more. And that's when Till looks calm, really sees him and fully embrace him and the situation.

One thing I noticed the very first time I watched this, was that the sound of heartbeat before Till begun to sing, was accelerating rapidly, symbolizing Till's unstable emotions after Mizi's disappearance and after everything he went through in Alien Stage. But when it was Ivan's turn to sing, the heartbeat was steady and calm, as if showing Ivan's firm resolve towards Till, consistent and not waning, showing that Ivan knows what he has to do. And he is confident to sacrifice himself, if it means Till, the 'object of his shallow emotions', can live. Because just like Mizi who makes Till's life meaningful, Till is the one who makes Ivan's life meaningful in the Alien Stage. Death and anything else means nothing to Ivan if it means that 'rebellious boy' he loves could go to the next round.
I think out of all of them, Till seems to be the one most talented in music. He was writing his own music and he was the only one seen playing an instrument. Plus, Mizi even gifted him a flute. With how much he rebelled at every single opportunity, Till must have been super talented for him to even have passed and gotten into the tournament. And the fact that the aliens still made him perform outside of the tournament despite having to restrain him so much is crazy to me.
And him hitting high ass notes in this song despite technically have little to no practice from depressing over mizi and stuff, so he's rlly a music genius ✋️✋️✋️
He also has the fastest selling albums! In addition from being a musical genius he is (maybe with Hyuna) the most expressive character in my opinion. Aliens love seeing human feelings, it's no wonder they love his music

You can tell from Till's expression throughout that he had in a way accepted his fate and expecting to die this round - but he wasn't scared... he probably saw it as finally being released from this torment. What he didn't know, however, is that Ivan would never let that happen 😭
He was sacrificing himself for Ivan, there is a right way to strangulate someone without intending to murder and that is exactly what he did, because he wanted to be disqualified to save Ivan.@@nejy44

That small and tender kiss at 3:23 is such a painful yet beautiful detail. It feels like a last declaration of pure love, a goodbye and confession at the same time. I teared up at that moment.

One thing that I want to mention about Ivan. He somehow knows how to remove a collar. In flashback in the 3rd round Ivan took Till’s collar off. In bar Ivan took Till’s collar off. Even in flashback Ivan reaches his hand to Till’s collar. No one else did something like that in ALNST. Please, Ivan is too smart to die 😭😭😭
unfortunately, I don't think the writers will probably listen. There's no way in hell that Ivan would've survived multiple bullet wounds. I think Till will probably use that knowledge though.

Realistically speaking, if they were standard bullet wounds Ivan would have collapsed sooner and most likely on his right side instead. Plus those aliens probably have better medicine than us. The way this round is done writers can both pretend Ivan died or just severely wounded.

Ivan's sacrifice is heartbreaking for a multitude of reasons. For starters, Ivan knows that Till (in his current state) would never choose him in place of Mizi. I mean, he has watched Till literally give up his complete freedom from ALNST just to stay by her side. Regardless, he would do what he could to capture Till's attention, even if it meant purposefully teasing or picking a fight with him (2:03). This is because, to Ivan, Till is practically the only reason his life has meaning. As an audience, we can assume that Ivan has had a hard life full of abuse prior to his participation in ALNST. His eyes in flashbacks are drawn with little to no light. That is until he meets Till, the only character (including Hyuna) to have shown some real resistance to the ALNST and alien control since his childhood. In ALNST Round 3, we see that Ivan views Till's volatile, uncontrollable personality as something as beautiful as a sky full of shooting stars. He wishes so desperately to be the one to hold Till's spark, for his blaze to "consume him" (2:42). Yet, after Mizi's disappearance following ALNST Round 5, Till's flame goes out. He becomes a shadow of his former self, losing his fighting spirit in the process. And Ivan is forced to watch the person he loves, the one thing that has proven to him that life is worth living, completely throw himself away. Till wanted to die that day. He wore black to his own funeral. Even when Ivan began kissing and choking him, he never put up much of a fight to resist (3:26). But Ivan was willing to risk everything for Till. He threw his chance of living by tossing his microphone aside and began to "attack" Till as it was the only way he could assure his loss. He even kept holding on after multiple shots. Although, he could never truly hurt Till as Ivan only wrapped his hands around his collar rather than his neck. And with a final kiss goodbye, Ivan died with a smile. He was genuinely grateful that was able to save Till from a death marked by the ALNST, and that for once, even if it was at the end, Till's eyes were only on him.

He is finally neutralized by who I assume is his guardian, but he's beaten and bruised. He's helpless. This is the point of no return I think, this is what leads Till to just surrender emotionally. "Wearing black to his own funeral" as you put it. "Ivan is forced to watch the person he loves completely throw himself away" and its so painful because he'd rather die himself than watch Till's spirit stop burning bright. Gosh, what maniacs they are- Ivan I mean. And Vivinos. for creating this beautiful mess of love, devotion, and death.
Everyone's talking about Ivan but i really wanna know exactly what Till's been feeling ever since Mizi's disappearance. Does he believe she's dead, gone and never to be seen again? Does he believe she's alive but feel betrayed because she ran away without even a glance his way, even though she was the sole reason he didn’t escape all those years ago? What did he think of Ivan at the end? Did he finally realize how he was his sole ally when everything else seemed to be either blind or hostile towards him? Did he realize Ivan was going through the exact same thing he did with Mizi? That he gave away his freedom just for him, only to never even be perceived by the apple of his eye? I noticed that Till is the one who sings about the falling stars during their past escape attempt, despite the fact it's a memory always shown from Ivan's perspective. Was it a more important moment for Till than we realized? Who was he thinking of in that moment? Mizi or Ivan? If we don't get a clearer grasp on Till's emotions and story in the next round (?) istg im gonna lose my mind 😭

It seems to me this song shows the unreciprocated love of each other. Till is singing it for Mizi, he truly believes his reason to live is dead; (1:11) “On your icy lips,” alongside with the image of her in a white robe as a kid shows that she is a corpse-cold, which makes her have icy lips. He also mentions “Let me drown in you” (0:54) emphasizing “let me” because he can’t, she’s no longer there. Till on the other hand says “I’ll drown in you” (2:22) which shows he can drown, and he WILL drown, because Till is there, and he loves him. Other comments have said that Ivan is dressed as a Broom while Ivan is dressed like he’s going to a funeral because it SHOWS their dynamic, Ivan loves him, while Till is MOURNING for Mizi. The only reason why he is even singing is FOR Mizi, to relief himself. While Ivan is doing it to LOVE Till. I feel like Ivan’s sacrifice wasn’t planned, he SAW that Till had no will to continue singing, he had this twisted idea that Till was singing Ivan’s song as a duet (because he probably wrote it since he’s a fan favorite and has privileges) but Till stopped singing after “To this everlasting melody” (2:51) and didn’t sing “With our story” (2:59) “Lost in forever’s embrace” (3:04) because it isn’t their story, it’s not reciprocated. Even after the kiss, they’re dynamic is furtherly emphasized in 3:33 because Ivan wants Till to LOOK at him one last time, as he is desperate and his eyes shaking show it, but Till is only mourning and accepting his fate by having his eyes close, finally believing that his pain will be relieved. That he will get his cure. However the one getting his cure instead is Ivan. It’s called Cure because by Ivan dying, his pain of not having his love returned is cured. It isn’t a sorrow anymore, it’s cured by his own death.

The tragic thing for me was seeing how far Ivan has gone to keep Till safe. He literally disguised himself as a security guard to get Till out of that bar. I can only imagine the other things he’s done. I believe that’s the whole reason why he became the fan favorite. He knew being loved by the aliens would give him more freedom to protect and keep Till alive. As the favorite, he had to go through horrifying things but it was all worth it if it meant Till was still there. Truly, Ivan is the best character for me.

There's something truly sad about how Till tries to push Ivan away when he kisses him, but just goes limp when Ivan starts choking him. For a character that's always seen fighting back, when his best friend seemingly tried to kill him, he just accepted it. I think Till went into this competition with the expectation that he would lose, maybe even hoping he would lose since now the only thing that made life worth it to him (Mizi) was gone. Then, his realization of what Ivan did, the fact that Ivan must've felt for him what he felt towards Mizi - that Till dying would've made life pointless for Ivan...

Can I tell you about my Oc for Alien Stage? This idea, kinda has been done before. Especially with the original Macross Anime. But hear me out though . What if the male character I'm making who loves Ivan back , is half Alien and half human . But he was exiled from society . I know this is a mess but it's a draft idea so far . We haven't seen half human, half alien characters in Alien Stage. And I think it would be interesting. I haven't decided how Ivan and my Oc will meet yet. But I want Ivan to have a guy who loves him too. I think Ivan will teach my Oc what it means to be human . I was a bit inspired by the original Macross Anime and it's movie Do You Remember Love? And Gunslinger Girl / Violet Evergarden for making my Oc. I named him Noah . What do you think? 👀

so i've been rewatching the rounds and i realized something. in round 5 when mizi starts beating the shit out of luka, the guards come and pull her off of him, wrangle her away, and only after all that just START to point a gun at her head. but because of all that, the resistance had time to come in and save her.
so when ivan started doing the same thing, they began shooting him down immediately. because if they didn't, it would give the resistance time to come in and save him, and they don't want that to happen again.
that's why none of the guards approached. they would rather kill him quickly than give opportunity for saving 😭

Anyone realize that Till had a shine in his eyes when Ivan went to kiss him, and even after the kiss his eyes shined. After Ivan died (he's alive please please please), that shine never went away, probably because he finally realized that there was someone who liked him, yet he never knew until it was too late.

Something that i realised is how Till says "Let me drown in you" (0:51) to Mizi because he loves and adore Mizi, but she isn't interested in him which makes him crave that love from her even more. He wants to drown in her love but he cant because her love wasnt meant for him, it was meant for Sua. Ivan on the other hand says "I'll drown in you" (2:20) indicating that he can and WILL drown in his love for Till. "Drowning" in this case implies that he'll lose himself the deeper he goes. So this means he'll willingly love Till, even if it means he will lose himself in the process.

What’s so heartbreaking about Ivan strangling Till to save him, is the symbol of Ivan taking off Till’s collar that has shown up so many times throughout the series. In their backstory, we see Ivan taking off Till’s restraints on multiple occasions, especially the collar over his mouth. He does it back in Ankat Garden when they make their escape attempt, and he’s shown doing it in the flashback in this episode as well. While the aliens want to stifle Till’s chaotic and rebellious nature, Ivan loves that part about Till, and he wants to free him from his bindings, no matter how loud and violent he can sometimes be. But, when Mitzi disappeared, Till lost his rebellious spirit. As he sings during this round he looks defeated, hopeless, with no fight left to give. Ivan can’t stand for that. He has to help Till get his spirit back, no matter the cost. By Ivan’s final act being strangling Till, what he’s really doing is taking of his collar. He reaches for Till’s neck, for the hundredth time, for the last time, intent, as always, to free Till from the aliens. And when his hands fall away, Till is free -free from the fate that awaited him, and maybe, just maybe, with Ivan’s death, Till can regain his rebellious spirit again.

I think one of the saddest things about this is how when we see Till’s pov Ivan is never in it, but when we see Ivan’s pov Till is EVERYWHERE. Like this was a major jump from his original song, disobeying in like every conceivable manner like he sang the whole part without letting the other guy sing, he killed the guitar alien all with a smirk and passion on his face. He sang with more passion and intensity in his voice and the majority was in English (I don’t think that’s really apart of it I just find it neat). However now he’s quite the opposite. He is singing like how Alien stage is intended to be sung, the genre and tone of the song is completely different than the previous song. While his voice is still really good it lacks the same spark the original song has since it was a huge shift. I know a lot of people point out how Till dresses like if he was going to a funeral and Ivan to wedding.
But I also want to point out how different their wardrobes are from the original songs.
In Round 2 till was wearing a white loose t-shirt with [not too] loose pants. He also had no shoes which again I feel was meant to show his rebellious nature. Again his current appearance is the opposite a tucked in? (Could be wrong) black shirt that is now missing any design that the last one had. As well as the tight black pants, it’s more form-fitting like he has decided to con”form” with alien stage ever since mizi disappeared. While it’s obvious that he lost his spark and is going through grief and depression because of it the I like how the a simple black outfit can reflect that.
Now on to Ivan’s outfit. The most clear difference between his previous and current outfit is the color, from black to white. However there is more about his outfit is that it was constricted I am unsure on what exactly it is (belt?) however now In round 6 those restrictions are no longer seen on him. His current outfit is (recycling the same thing i said about till) except Ivan’s outfit is less form fitting, looser reflecting that he no has anything else to hide because he already knows he will die (he definitely had this planned out) it’s much asymmetrical and has more flow in comparison to his previous outfit.
I absolutely adore how Vivinos designs the characters and their outfits to reflect the state they’re in.

i noticed that during till’s last line before the kiss, he’s actually not singing (2:58), meaning he was purposefully trying to lose, and when ivan noticed this he made sure till would win by acting “aggressively” on stage 🥲
You know, if you compared Ivan's performance in black swan to here, Ivan sang less emotionally here. What I theorised was that the more emotions you put in your singing, the higher points you will get. Cause if you were to hear closely when till was singing, when he thought of sua his voice got raspier. Ivan's voice was similarly like that in black Swan when he started thinking of till. Ivan wanted to throw the entire performance all along by singing more monotonously. Then at the end, till gave up, like what you pointed out. I love how much Alien Stage reflects a lot of cheesy TV tropes like the love... circle? Triangle? Where everyone likes everyone but never back thing. But instead of playing it for a joke or something silly, it's written in a way that breaks your heart into a million pieces because the contestants' love is the one thing they got to choose for themselves.

I know people keep saying we don't see any trace of Ivan in Till's eyes until it was already too late, but I think it's more tragic to point out that we do see Till 'see' Ivan during his section. When they were kids, when Ivan had no light in his eyes. I think it's also because for once Till looked at Ivan in the eyes. It's sad though that in his last moments Ivan is finally in Tills eyeline, yet would never have the same impact as Mizi.
What I noticed, what I understood and how I interpreted this.
1.- In the first seconds of this round we hear the beatings of a heart while we watch different moments of Tills life and the experiments that he has endured, almost like he is watching his life pass in front of his eyes. He expects to die at the end of this round and when his actual face is revealed it shows how everything he has gone through is finally taking a toll on him (of course this happens after his reason to live is no where to be found, without Mizi he doesn’t see a reason to move forward).
2.- When he starts singing and the picture behind him shows we can notice the differences between his personality now and how it was back when mizi was “alive”, he is clearly boring the audience as they all look at him with an unimpressed gaze (also, he is competing against a fan favorite). And the phrase “ I don’t want to let you go” makes reference to mizi. Every single line he sings and almost every memory makes reference to her and to her death, Till genuinely thinks he is dead without her.
3.-Then we get the first and only memory of Ivan. From Till’s perspective we get that both of them got into a fight when they were kids and the gaze that Ivan used to look at Till is rather…. Sadistic Unbothered?. I think this is the perception that Till has of Ivan, he isn’t able to read him and therefore has always thought Ivan was annoying him for the fun of it. This scene shifts to a memory of Ivan, as he finds Till knocked out in the karaoke bar.
4.- It’s clear to see the parallel between both memories, the only thing that makes a difference is the way that Ivan looks at Till, his eyes are sparkling, as he is looking at his beloved.
5.- This parallel between scenes shows us that Till doesn’t actually know about Ivan’s feeling for him and that he has always interpreted them as hatred or dismissive, in the other hand, Ivan actually looks at Till lovingly in every memory of himself, he even has the permission to take of the collar of Till. (I don’t think every human can take off the collar of everyone else, but Ivan CAN. This makes me wonder if he is the one who usually saves till and takes care of him, to the point that the guardians have ALLOWED him to do so).
6.-Ivan lyrics also makes reference to Till in every moment. “Even if your cold words carve scars beneath my eyes…” this clearly makes reference to the way Till treats Ivan (which I assume is not pleasant, as Till is almost unaware of his existence). For example: In a community post we see Till complaining about Ivan wishing he would go away, he thinks that Ivan’s presence is making Mizi go away. Ivan just states that Mizi never plays with him, the one that does so is Ivan.
7.- Is almost as if Mizi takes the place of Ivan in every memory of Till, that’s the level of obsession Till has of Mizi.
8.- I wouldn’t be surprised if Ivan was constantly devastated from the things Tills says. This lack of acknowledgement forces Ivan to do drastic things like getting in a physical fight with Till and sadly this is the ONLY memory Till has of Ivan (paragraph 3) so this drastic measures actually work.
9.- The next scene reflects what actually Ivan wants to be noticed, the looks of affection he gives, the gentleness. Nonetheless, the only thing that gets a reacting from Till are the things Ivan doesn’t like (dramatic gestures). And I think Ivan doesn’t really like the grand gestures because of his judgment of Sua and her decision to die for Mizi. (The ultimate sacrifice just for the sake of being remembered).
10.- I want to make another point, in round 3 we can see a flash back of a red flower crown flying past Ivan and Till going after it. I think what happened is that Mizi made this flower crown for Sua, the flower crown flew away and till wanted to get it back for Mizi (who wanted it for Sua) Mizi and Till go into the home of an alien flower (also shown in the memories) and the flower eats this flower crown, making Till try and fight with the alien plant to get it back for Mizi, Till ends up getting hurt and Ivan just watches from the back. (This is what I can deduce with round 3 flashbacks). In this round we see another flashback of that same day (maybe) where Ivan is watching the plant form the back and one where he is touching its teeth, I think either Ivan calmed down the plant or he managed to get the flower crown from its mouth without getting hurt, whatever happened it culminated on Ivan getting Tills wound treated (Mizi probably fled the scene or trusted Ivan to take care of Tills, as they were close friends even if Tills doesn’t seem to recall that).
11.- Then Ivan is seen caressing Tills wounded face in a hospital and finally Tills running away from their attempted escape. This is even more devastating as we can now interpret their escape as Ivan’s way of saving Till for the millionth time, expecting to be saved at the same time, expecting Till to be grateful and running away with him because maybe, just maybe, Till will care enough about both of them to move forward and finally acknowledge the sacrifices Ivan constantly makes for him, but alas, Till runs away and decides their fate.
12.- We see a glimpse of real life Till being depressed as Ivan pours his heart out in the chorus. “In your gaze where I’m seen…” he doesn’t even look at Ivan in the memories nor in real life. Till cannot see the suffering in Ivan, and Ivan just sees the suffering of Till. Ivan was never seen, every glimpse of his memory he longs for the gaze of Till, but he never acquires it.
13.- “Face to face we dance…” Ivan keeps looking at Till, trying to make it about them. “With our story…” Till looks in front of him thinking about Mizi. He stops singing and Ivan directly starts his plan. Even when he KNOWS Ivan is heading towards him, Till is not bothered to look at him. 3:04. Until he has to.
14.- And for the first time the roles change, The one with sparking eyes is Till and Ivan just looks at him without anything. The first kiss they shared and Till is still unable to read Ivan. For him, this came out of nowhere 3:15. His surprise changes to alert when Ivan grabs him by the throat. Ivan isn’t even hurting him.
15.- Ivan is concerned for the lack of resistance that Till shows, Ivan has fell in love with the resilience and defiance of Tills personality and now it’s nowhere to be found. The numbers change and Ivan’s plan works, he starts being killed for the “aggression” he is committing. Even when he is dying, till is not looking at him. Finally he lets go, as he ensures his loved one will survive. And as he falls his last picture is Till finally looking at him. Ivan smiles as a last goodbye, the smile is enough to make Till understand everything he hadn’t noticed before.
There is no people, no Mizi, no aliens, no cameras and no microphones. It’s only Ivan, as the spotlight focuses on them, Till realizes he has lost the only thing that was constant, the reason he has actually managed to survive this long.
Meanwhile, Ivan is now the thing he despised, he has done this last grand gesture to make Till look at him (paragraph 9). He has died in what he longed all along. Maybe it was never meant to be.

I didn't even notice that Til stopped singing until I listened to the official video from Studio LICO. In this video you can hear him sing in the audio but if you watch his lips he stopped. That's why Ivan acted when he did, otherwise Til would have lost then and there.

i'd just like to point out the fact that ivan fell in love with till because of his rebellious attitude and his spirit, when he fought against that monster dog thing when he they were still kids at the episode for round three. and the fact that part of till had only shone out because mizi was there with him, presumably wanting to protect mizi by fighting back against the monster. i think ivan finally really starts to understand the extent of how much till loves mizi when he saw that till had no fighting spirit left in him to fight back when he choked him. to me, it wordlessly told ivan that he fell in love with the rebellious fire of a boy that was ignited by someone else. that till's hope was mizi, and that the fire would extinguish alongside her disappearance. that fight in till was never for ivan to fall in love with, it was for and because of the hope he gets from mizi.

Something I noticed about Ivan is that I feel like, whenever Till looked like he was feeling down or looked like he was on the verge of giving up, Ivan would do things to purposefully grate on tills nerve in order to get him to fight. I think he did that because he fell in love with Till and his fighting spirit and never wanted to see it die out. I feel like it's also part of the reason why he kissed Till during the competition as well. Because of Mizi being gone, he looked like he was on the verge of giving up and Ivan didn't want that. Granted I'm just speculating, but it feels like a common theme.

Not so fun fact because I’m about to cry for a hundredth time because of this animation: I can’t pinpoint the timestamp because it’s such a small detail but it’s between 3:04 and 3:09 you can see Till’s eyes dilate when Ivan cups his face. Now there are many reasons eyes dilate from a medical condition or bright light but one that I felt was most fitting for this was an emotional trigger or response. In round 6 (maybe round 3 too?) Ivan is seen holding Till’s face when he is unconscious multiple times. This makes me feel like Till recognized Ivan’s touch even though he was asleep for those moments, a persons touch can still be recognizable. I think at that moment Till was thinking ‘That was Ivan’s touch all along?’ And it caused an emotional response from either shock or comfort because he may have felt comfort from Ivan’s touch even though they argue a lot, I can especially tell after the S/A of the purple alien at 1:07-1:18. After leaving him in a room unconscious there comes Ivan’s precious ass.. oh also not sure if anyone else noticed this but Ivan disguised himself as a security guard to get Ivan out of that studio place which shows up in Till’s memory so at least he remembers that(?) idk anyway I’m gonna go cry now byebye~

I find Till's development in this clip very interesting. You can see here that he's given up. He is the first to stop singing, he barely resists Ivan during the kiss. It's such a stark contrast to the first clip. Till from the past could put up a fight, but he doesn't now. Till is so devastated.
On the cotrust, seeing Ivan's eagerness to fight for every bit of attention from Till, and his immense strength for self-sacrifice really breaks my heart.

Notice how, even with the cold demeanor and forcing Till, at the end, he was able to be relieved that the person he loves most got to live.
That even then, Ivan managed to show who he really is to Till before dying.
Just like in Black Sorrow, Ivan's mask broke because of Till, and in the end, Ivan's end, it was still Till who broke that mask of his. Only Till.

ok but how the second kiss feels much more genuine. Like after he checks the scores he gives him a short gentle one that feels both like a reassurance and a goodbye. Since Ivan tends to always look out for him in the past I guess thats how his genuine emotions shows up more. And that's when Till looks calm, really sees him and fully embrace him and the situation.

One thing I noticed the very first time I watched this, was that the sound of heartbeat before Till begun to sing, was accelerating rapidly, symbolizing Till's unstable emotions after Mizi's disappearance and after everything he went through in Alien Stage. But when it was Ivan's turn to sing, the heartbeat was steady and calm, as if showing Ivan's firm resolve towards Till, consistent and not waning, showing that Ivan knows what he has to do. And he is confident to sacrifice himself, if it means Till, the 'object of his shallow emotions', can live. Because just like Mizi who makes Till's life meaningful, Till is the one who makes Ivan's life meaningful in the Alien Stage. Death and anything else means nothing to Ivan if it means that 'rebellious boy' he loves could go to the next round.

I think out of all of them, Till seems to be the one most talented in music. He was writing his own music and he was the only one seen playing an instrument. Plus, Mizi even gifted him a flute. With how much he rebelled at every single opportunity, Till must have been super talented for him to even have passed and gotten into the tournament. And the fact that the aliens still made him perform outside of the tournament despite having to restrain him so much is crazy to me.
It has been confirmed that he is indeed a musical genius!
Till would win against Luka ez, he can sing multiple genres
And him hitting high ass notes in this song despite technically have little to no practice from depressing over mizi and stuff, so he's rlly a music genius ✋️✋️✋️

You can tell from Till's expression throughout that he had in a way accepted his fate and expecting to die this round - but he wasn't scared... he probably saw it as finally being released from this torment. What he didn't know, however, is that Ivan would never let that happen 😭

One thing that I want to mention about Ivan. He somehow knows how to remove a collar. In flashback in the 3rd round Ivan took Till’s collar off. In bar Ivan took Till’s collar off. Even in flashback Ivan reaches his hand to Till’s collar. No one else did something like that in ALNST. Please, Ivan is too smart to die 😭😭😭
unfortunately, I don't think the writers will probably listen. There's no way in hell that Ivan would've survived multiple bullet wounds. I think Till will probably use that knowledge though.

Realistically speaking, if they were standard bullet wounds Ivan would have collapsed sooner and most likely on his right side instead. Plus those aliens probably have better medicine than us. The way this round is done writers can both pretend Ivan died or just severely wounded.

Ivan's sacrifice is heartbreaking for a multitude of reasons. For starters, Ivan knows that Till (in his current state) would never choose him in place of Mizi. I mean, he has watched Till literally give up his complete freedom from ALNST just to stay by her side. Regardless, he would do what he could to capture Till's attention, even if it meant purposefully teasing or picking a fight with him (2:03). This is because, to Ivan, Till is practically the only reason his life has meaning.
As an audience, we can assume that Ivan has had a hard life full of abuse prior to his participation in ALNST. His eyes in flashbacks are drawn with little to no light. That is until he meets Till, the only character (including Hyuna) to have shown some real resistance to the ALNST and alien control since his childhood. In ALNST Round 3, we see that Ivan views Till's volatile, uncontrollable personality as something as beautiful as a sky full of shooting stars. He wishes so desperately to be the one to hold Till's spark, for his blaze to "consume him" (2:42). Yet, after Mizi's disappearance following ALNST Round 5, Till's flame goes out. He becomes a shadow of his former self, losing his fighting spirit in the process. And Ivan is forced to watch the person he loves, the one thing that has proven to him that life is worth living, completely throw himself away.
Till wanted to die that day. He wore black to his own funeral. Even when Ivan began kissing and choking him, he never put up much of a fight to resist (3:26). But Ivan was willing to risk everything for Till. He threw his chance of living by tossing his microphone aside and began to "attack" Till as it was the only way he could assure his loss. He even kept holding on after multiple shots. Although, he could never truly hurt Till as Ivan only wrapped his hands around his collar rather than his neck. And with a final kiss goodbye, Ivan died with a smile. He was genuinely grateful that was able to save Till from a death marked by the ALNST, and that for once, even if it was at the end, Till's eyes were only on him.

Ivan wants Till all to himself, which in theory he SHOULD considering Mizi is out of the picture. But Mizi is Till's oxygen, he needs her like he needs air. As you've beautifully pointed out, Till's flame was slowly dying. Till's flashback even shows him distraught when he's supposed to perform in front of the aliens. Till has always been the rebel, he's resisted being pushed around at any given chance, but this time he can't even stand to put his mask back on and sing for these pricks.
He fights back when he sees the aliens lash out at him and threaten him, Mizi's missing poster being shoved in his face being the icing on the cake. He is finally neutralized by who I assume is his guardian, but he's beaten and bruised. He's helpless. This is the point of no return I think, this is what leads Till to just surrender emotionally. "Wearing black to his own funeral" as you put it.
"Ivan is forced to watch the person he loves completely throw himself away" and its so painful because he'd rather die himself than watch Till's spirit stop burning bright.
Gosh, what maniacs they are- Ivan I mean. And Vivinos. for creating this beautiful mess of love, devotion, and death.

Everyone's talking about Ivan but i really wanna know exactly what Till's been feeling ever since Mizi's disappearance. Does he believe she's dead, gone and never to be seen again? Does he believe she's alive but feel betrayed because she ran away without even a glance his way, even though she was the sole reason he didn’t escape all those years ago?
What did he think of Ivan at the end? Did he finally realize how he was his sole ally when everything else seemed to be either blind or hostile towards him? Did he realize Ivan was going through the exact same thing he did with Mizi? That he gave away his freedom just for him, only to never even be perceived by the apple of his eye?
I noticed that Till is the one who sings about the falling stars during their past escape attempt, despite the fact it's a memory always shown from Ivan's perspective. Was it a more important moment for Till than we realized? Who was he thinking of in that moment? Mizi or Ivan?
If we don't get a clearer grasp on Till's emotions and story in the next round (?) istg im gonna lose my mind 😭

I AM LISTENING TO THIS IN CHRISTMAS EVE AND CHRISTMAS... IVAN IS ALIVE. THEY ARE HAPPY TOGETHER...
It seems to me this song shows the unreciprocated love of each other. Till is singing it for Mizi, he truly believes his reason to live is dead; (1:11) “On your icy lips,” alongside with the image of her in a white robe as a kid shows that she is a corpse-cold, which makes her have icy lips. He also mentions “Let me drown in you” (0:54) emphasizing “let me” because he can’t, she’s no longer there.
Till on the other hand says “I’ll drown in you” (2:22) which shows he can drown, and he WILL drown, because Till is there, and he loves him.
Other comments have said that Ivan is dressed as a Broom while Ivan is dressed like he’s going to a funeral because it SHOWS their dynamic, Ivan loves him, while Till is MOURNING for Mizi. The only reason why he is even singing is FOR Mizi, to relief himself. While Ivan is doing it to LOVE Till.
I feel like Ivan’s sacrifice wasn’t planned, he SAW that Till had no will to continue singing, he had this twisted idea that Till was singing Ivan’s song as a duet (because he probably wrote it since he’s a fan favorite and has privileges) but Till stopped singing after “To this everlasting melody” (2:51) and didn’t sing “With our story” (2:59) “Lost in forever’s embrace” (3:04) because it isn’t their story, it’s not reciprocated. Which also explains why Ivan sung “Face to face WE dance” (2:54) because he truly believes this is a duet. ALSO (edit) it is come to my attention that the original song IS a duet (it’s on Vivinos page) and the part where Till stopped singing was THE START of the duet, which actually confirms that it is symbolism for unreciprocated love.
Even after the kiss, they’re dynamic is furtherly emphasized in 3:33 because Ivan wants Till to LOOK at him one last time, as he is desperate and his eyes shaking show it, but Till is only mourning and accepting his fate by having his eyes close, finally believing that his pain will be relieved. That he will get his cure.
However the one getting his cure instead is Ivan. It’s called Cure because by Ivan dying, his pain of not having his love returned is cured. It isn’t a sorrow anymore, it’s cured by his own death.
