  • Hello and welcome! The weather here has been awful for the past week. So much rain and flooding. I wasn't able to blow out flowers because of it, but I still wanted to paint. I love the way it turned out! When I first began working with AI, I had no idea what I was doing and there weren't many, if any, videos to watch, so I just played around and ended up creating many abstract paintings. Now I've learned a thing or two, but it was so relaxing to just let the inks do what they wanted to do and still create something I was happy with. I hope you enjoy the video and give it a try!

What a great project for beginners (me!). You posted this a week ago and I'm so glad I found you. I live in NH and it's nice to have an East Coast artist to inspire me! I'll be watching all of your videos from now on...I like the green and brown one only slightly more than the others......Thanks for sharing! Take care!! "J"

I love this one, even more so because of the squigglies. I adore those. Thank you Jeanette🥰

My favorite is the 3rd piece in the mauve shades. I like the proportions of the circles and use of the overall space of the paper. This reminds me of the works by Lone of Zimino Art. She no longer makes videos consistently but her abstract work is so imaginative and she had a series where she incorporated squiggly lines too, but mostly drew them by hand. Love the organic look from the compressor. I recently made and framed an abstract painting for my daughter’s birthday using my dryer and alcohol inks. It’s fun to play with color combinations and it turned out really well!

I Am watching this again today (7/14/23). I failed miserably in creating circles yesterday and got spidery edges, no matter how I tried to keep the dryer on the perimeter. I think I know what I did wrong. I need to add a generous amount of alcohol in circular motion around the ink, not on the ink. Is that right? Meanwhile, I have found a way to add ink and alcohol to my mistakes and by moving the dryer in different directions, I am getting images that look like roses and other flowers. So that was fun.

I've never thought about where I was placing the alcohol, to be honest. It's important to use a lot of alcohol and to add more if it's drying too fast or becoming thick. Use the low setting on your dryer and hold it about an inch or 2 away from the paper. Let me know if that helps.

Good morning from rainy Rochester, NY. Watched this video with my morning coffee. Love this technique...my favorite was the green/brown combo you showed on camera. One day I'll try alcohol ink. You always inspire my creativity. BTW what song? Thanks so much!

Thank you. It's fun to see what you end up with. I created so many pieces like this when I started bc I had no idea what I was doing. I'd forgotten how much fun it was to just go with the flow.

Beautiful! I’ve tried using the acrylic ink for spidery trees but all I get is one continuous line none of the little spidery offshoots. Yes, I’m squiggling my air brush. Any tips? Thank you for the wonderful video.

@johanssonstudio thank you. I add a drop of water to the ink before blowing it out. It helps it move better.

I found them! Tim Holtz Adirondack Alcohol Inks. Very expensive but it’s the only brand where I find browns in the sets.

Hi there. If you're asking about alcohol ink, the answer is no. You can use it for many other painting styles as well. If you search through my other videos, you'll see landscapes, floral, portraits, etc.
