Its another fun Air Cannon video. We hoped you liked the last one, we had so much fun doing it...that we did another one. We set up the 175 PSI air cannon and loaded it with a banana, eggs, corn on the cob, gummy worms, and sticks of butter and shot them at a block of concrete. Each was pretty cool to watch, especially in slow motion. Do you think any of them could break the cinderblock?Have any other crazy ideas for us? Oh and our 60,000 psi waterjet was broken and will probably be down for another week. Send it some good vibes.

guys, you have to have about a 3" i.d. barrel and make sabots to hold the projectile.
a sabot is a protective holder or "shoe" that supports the projectile and makes up a larger diameter to provide a good seal with the barrel. its the best way to fire sub caliber projectiles from a larger barrel.
various foam products work very well. you can easily use spray foam to surround a projectile(coated with a release agent such as petroleum jelly).
then cut it in half, thirds or fourths. to open for loading the projectile.
tape it back together and load into the air cannon.
it will keep many delicate projectiles together for the very violent and instant acceleration and trip down the barrel.
once it leaves the barrel the sabot will peel away from the projectile.
ive fired a marshmallow through a steel car door using this method. it takes about 395 mph if memory serves me.
You need to soak them in liquid nitrogen first to get them to break the cinder block.

If you put the banana in liquid nitrogen first it will defenatly break a cynder block because you can even hamer a nail with it in. I tested it!
Ever seen stuff put in liquid nitrogen like a tennis ball for example? Becomes too brittle, it will explode even more drastically soon as it is hit with the air pressure.

what surprised me was how far the barrel slid along the ground after firing the corn.
First, I saw "The man who can take a cannon ball to the stomach, then I saw "LEMON POWRED SUPER CAR" and now it's a Fucking banana vs a cinder block.

What he needs to do is put a vacuum in the tube, you can easily make a ping pong ball go through that block if the tube has a vacuum in it.
Jake Mitch I don't think the ping pong ball will break the block even on the world record version of the vacuum tube, that one wouldn't even make it through more than the first layers of skin on a pork shoulder. It WOULD be interesting to watch, though.

The think the friction coefficient is too high and that's why it's walking apart, it's breaking it down on the sides as it comes out.

someone needs to give these guys a physics lesson.
The objects themselves don't even do anything to the cinderblocks. Most movement occurs when the air pressure reaches the blocks. Still cool, gotta do more tests and improve with larger tubes and different subjects.

Should try to put the barrel under vacuum. Would allow for faster speed and no air resistance until leaving the tube. You can do that with a vacuum pump, a few small fittings, a hose, and some tape.

I know its a year and a half late. But if you want to launch an object that is an odd shape, or something you need to stay together until it exits. You need to make a two piece foam plug to sit behind the object, so the pressure of the tube builds up behind it and launches it out between the air and the object, and then because of air resistance, it peels off the object once its not held together by the PVC tubing, and the object is launched, I think it was mythbusters I saw this on originally, where they used foam to hold (something?) until it left the pressurized tubing, because it kept being shredded apart by the air, it could have been an egg or banana i dont have a clue tho. lol

I think your barrel might be flexing a little bit while you're shooting with it which caues whatever's inside to almost definitely blow up inside of it. Maybe you should try steel tube if you can get your hands on one

These things need to be fired in a vacuum. The air pressure behind the object and air resistance in front of it will just disintegrate most objects. Fired within a vacuum a ping pong ball can easily punch through plywood.
maybe instead of cutting off the end of the banana after putting it in, cut it then put cut end pointing towards exit

You'd need faster acting valve. Pressure is probably not high enough by the time the projectiles leave the barrel.
The fact that the banana is coming out as a white and yellow mist suggests that the pressure is plenty high.

So sad about the jet... I have something I doubt you'll cut when its fixed, and some fan art things. It is a neon sign transformer. I use it as a jacobs ladder. I think its 20,000v. think you'd have the guts to cut the jacobs ladder spark, power vs power, current vs current! Would you like this transformer at all? You could do whatever with it. It makes cool sparks but is dangerous!

why not try heating the cinder blocks, freezing the bananas in liquid nitrogen, upping the PSI and launching multiple bananas at the same time? ("heating the cinder blocks" of course means lighting them on fire and launching the bananas while they are still on fire.)
