We moved to B’ham in 2015; this guy’s video is spot on. The grey skies are a mental health challenge, for sure. We have a cool downtown, but as mentioned, it’s degraded by the homeless & crime. Most crime is just petty theft; if it’s not nailed down, it gets stolen, especially bikes. There’s very little in the way of actual violence on the streets, but we always carry pepper spray and keep our eyes open for shenanigans. There are plenty of these Bellingham videos made by realtors; this one is very accurate and transparent. Well done.

Agreed. The grey skies and bums would be a "no go" for me. We were thinking about using Bellingham as a base for an upcoming trip but are now looking for better options.

I'm looking to move to the west coast from NYC, and Bellingham was on my list. However, the point you raised about being inconvenient for travel is a valid one. I've been watching ton of videos, and you're the first one who actually brought it up

@@JoshCrownWhatcomCountyHomes Nothing right now - I don't know the west coast towns of Washington. I work from home, so am wanting a single family home close to the water. I'll probably have to look in small towns, since Bellingham seems to have not many rentals, and Seattle is NYC prices

there is a train u can take to Sea Tac airport. Plus there are airporters that will take u to the airport. Bellingham is close to Hwy 20 which is a beautiful drive though the mountains. Also u can go to theSan Juan islands. There are some airlines that fly out of the local airport.

And, if you like drug addicted street people as well as the fact Bellingham is a dying city, there are plenty of better choices even though the wildlife and natural beauty are stunning, it does have its drawbacks!

Good video, but I'm not sure Bellingham Bay equates to living by the beach, its more like another large lake in the area. Very different from the Oregon coast.

Bellingham is fast becoming another Seattle, or Portland?! Maybe eventually it can attain San Francisco fame?!

The homeless issues are NOT confined to downtown AT ALL. I'm putting my house on the market this spring because I can't take it anymore. And unfortunately, like many West Coast cities, the extreme progressive politics are RUINING the city. If you are into skiing and sailing and into the outdoors the surrounding areas are great. But this guy is clearly looking at bellingham with rose colored glasses.

Hi Chris! Appreciate the perspective. On second thought, you are probably right that the homeless population also expands down the Guide all the way to Walmart and on Telegraph by Home Depot. Anywhere else I’m missing? Or anything else you think is a con about Bellingham? I always want to give the best interpretation of Bellingham that I can.

@JoshCrownWhatcomCountyHomes Hi Josh.....let me think about that for a bit. I do think you did a pretty nice job with the video on the whole of it and should be commended for the effort. I've lived here 25 years and Bellingham sort of had a heyday in my mind starting from the closing of the GP paper mill up until maybe about 2008 when increasingly it's started to decline in terms of quality of life on nearly every front. Truly after Mark Asmundson our Mayor at the time left. Our most recent Mayor Seth Fleetwood has been an absolute disaster. I'm not particularly hopeful.... But it's a little bit like talking to my Seattle friends about conditions in their city. And they're all kind of like nothing to see here.....which is living in total denial.

@@chrishadley8334 You have a bit more Bellingham experience than me. I moved here in 2019, so I guess I haven't seen the downfall that you describe. I have definitely seen the downfall of Seattle, so if it is comparable then I see your point! Where are you considering moving to?

After five generations we left California for WY and the homeless addicts were the primary reason. At some point, people will realize that bummery isn't a victimless crime, because the taxpayer, the robbed homeowner, the child who'd like to play at the park, and the store owner whose patrons lose access, are all victims.
