Starting in the first decades of the twentieth century, scientists conducted chimpanzee experiments to assess their intelligence, behavior, communication, culture, and more.
According to the data, at least 98 percent of the human and chimpanzee genomes are identical. Consequently, some scientists became obsessed with figuring out what would happen if these animals were integrated into human civilization.
Some even attempted to teach them languages for communication purposes.
