The Incredible American Made Boots No One Knows About! Franks Patriot Boots

  • The Franks Boots Patriot work boot is easily the best value USA made work boot available today. It's such a great value that I'm not entirely sure how such a well made work boot is sustainable at this low price of $350! Boasting components and build quality on par with boots nearly twice the price, the Franks Patriot is truly something special. Double-row stitchdown construction, 7.5-8oz Seidel leather, Vibram lug sole, and of course that legendary arch support!
I don't know how Franks is doing it, but get a pair before they realize what a steal these are!

Being a blue collar guy, I look for certain elements in a product: is it durable? Is it high-quality? Will it perform well over its service life? Whether boots, pants, jackets, or tools I believe it's best to buy once and cry once by getting the best you can afford. With so many options these days, choosing the best product can become a difficult decision, but that's where I come in. Helping you stay stylish, rugged, and handsome.

I ordered my T1 Commanders a month or so before they unveiled the Patriot. I was a little put out for maybe 2 seconds for just spending $630 and then they came out with this alternative. I reminded myself why I went the route I did to decide on my Commanders and quickly got over it. Then after opening the box when it came in the mail I HAVE Absolutely NO REGRETS! Patriots will be your gateway drug. The staff at Frank's is outstanding. Junior (Frankie) will set you straight and Michele will make you feel at home! My feet have never been happier.

It's going to be more flexible than the Highlander much less the Commander.
I'm guessing that using previously discarded leather, forgoing the pull loop, saving the hard to get thread and labor of the McKay Stitch, no custom fitting to deal with and only one spec to build to saves a good portion of the $210 in cost difference between the Highlander and Patriot. Some margin reduction, but I bet it's less than many would think.

Spokane used to be the center of mining in the region and accumulated great wealth. It used to be called the Inland Empire for a reason. No wonder White's, Nick's, Frank's and JK boots are in Washington's second largest city, Spokane. Spokane is better connected to North Idaho than to Seattle.

Frank's boots are TANKS. Very well-made. Very nice looking. I bought a pair with composite toes and some other custom features. Unfortunately, after paying a total (including tax and shipping) $750.00, they are about 1/16th of an inch too short. So they're awesome conversation pieces, but I can't wear them for more than a couple of hours before I have to take them off. I gave up trying to stretch them. When I did the outline of my feet, I wore extra thick socks, so I was very surprised that they were made too small. So I suggest ordering a bit bigger than your outline is.

That head to head with Drew’s boots will be amazing. Looks like the main build differences are roughout vs smooth and the safety tire option for $35 more. Then being able to do that with what looks like a leather heal stack with USA manufacturering is nuts

JK has a $350 workboot too.
As one who recently cancelled an order with wesco(was told 11 months when ordered. At ten months, i was told its now 18-20, meaning instead of almost finished I was half way there), i decided to order some Frank's. I grabbed their Front Range model as it was in stock, and I wanted an 8 inch model instead of a 10.
I would not hesitate to recommend these to anyone. Especially someone wondering if a 10" shaft might be too much.

7:22. There's likely a few things going on here:
    1. Like all 6 of the major PNW bootmakers, Frank's has a ridiculously high profit margin on his SKUs because (despite everyone on this channel lusting after them) the volume is just not there for $500+ workboots. Few boots sold results in an inability to employ economies of scale.
    2. Yes, you are correct - this is almost certainly going to be a loss-leader, though I'd wager, given my point 1 above, that a margin exists, but will be quite small. I do believe they are still making a nice profit off these (see point 3 as well).
    3. You analyzed the materials to determine the BOM cost, which ostensibly appears quite close to the 'expensive'/standard option; I suspect, however, much of the cost reduction is coming from deletions to certain build steps. I wouldn't be surprised if these boots require about 50% of the build time as the $700 pairs.
    4. Frank's almost certainly pulled a "McRib" (wherein McDonalds seemingly randomly and unpredictably releases the McRib, but in reality they do so only when there a surplus/market-saturation of pork). They got a (almost certainly a one-time) batch of lower tensile strength (but similar thickness) leather from one or more suppliers. They'd be foolish to pass up a bargain.

Ive been wearing Irish Setter Kasotas with the rubber to caps and they're pretty good for the money, but I'd like to get into some handmade boots. Is the leather thick enough on these boots or would you recommend getting the additional leather toe cap?

anyone know how franks compare to whites in terms of size? I've been on the fence about getting a pair of these, my whites smoke jumpers are about 30 years old now and are too narrow. The footbed still feels amazing, just molded to my feet perfectly. the actual width of them are too narrow now. My whites are 10.5 D, I was hoping a 10.5 E or EE would work in this boot.

    • @cloveroak5492

      It depends on the last...
White's & Frank's both use the 55 & the HNW, so those would be the same. Frank's has limited sizes in White's 4811 last, and all 3 lasts mentioned above are the same size.
Additionaly Frank's has the popular 1977 last which is a 1/2 size different.
(but if you mean the Patriot specificly, built on the 55, then yes, Frank's is the same size)
Regardless I would let Frank's do the fit-sheet to ne sure your sizing hasn't changed more than what you have observed

I got flat feet too. I tried a pair of iron rangers and they don't have much of a heel so they were fine. They just seemed hard for the first few wears but I got used to it. Then I got a pair of Drew's contractor boots and the heal was much higher and hard too. So I wore thick socks and put in a cushon-ey insoles and it was fine. Wore them around the house like that the first day, took out the insoles the next day around the house and it didn't seem so hard or steep in the arch. In fact I think it's therapeutic cuz it forces our flat feet into a natural arch. Just ease your way into it bruh and you'll be fine. I flattened my feet by jumping off the roof of my house as a youth, probably damaged the growth plates in my knees else Id ove been taller for sure. In the boots I'm as tall as I should have been. 😂

It's really not a terrible business decision actually they're making a production boot with little variation, it's perfect for training new people. the patriot is the perfect hook for the consumer you're getting a premium boot at a discounted price that they'll resole but won't rebuild, because the rebuild or a new pair is basically the same price. Now you've got 5 years or more into this brand you know your size you know how it's going to fit you know the break in so why not spend the $200 more and get the boot that can be rebuilt. Worst-case scenario they sell you another $349 pair of boots.

It's just too bad that you can't get a boot this tough that's also quick and inexpensive to resole.
They could probably go with a one piece vibram lug outsole and glue it to the midsole, it wouldn't be as tough but would still be a much tougher than a redwing or Carolina logger and could probably be resoled for $50.
They'd get higher profit margins too, and I think people would understand having a slightly cheaper construction choice for the purpose.
