    In this inaugural episode of Battlegrounds, H.R. McMaster and Ambassador Atmar discuss this critical time for Afghanistan. They will look at how the past impacts the present, the role of Afghanistan’s neighbors and what is at stake for the United States, Afghanistan, and the world as Afghanistan moves towards peace.
    ABOUT THE SPEAKERS
    H.E. Mohammed Haneef Atmar is the current acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and a former Interior Minister of Afghanistan. He previously served as National Security Advisor, Minister of Education and Minister of Rural Rehabilitation.
    H. R. McMaster is the Fouad and Michelle Ajami Senior Fellow at the Hoover Institution, Stanford University. He is also the Bernard and Susan Liautaud Fellow at the Freeman Spogli Institute and lecturer at Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business. He was the 26th assistant to the president for National Security Affairs. Upon graduation from the United States Military Academy in 1984, McMaster served as a commissioned officer in the United States Army for thirty-four years before retiring as a Lieutenant General in June 2018.

    Gen. McM, KUDOS to you for inviting the MFA to explain some of the intricacies of the peace-making process from an informed Afghan perspective, resulting in this fine illuminating conversation! I personally was informed by the bilateral erudite analysis. Looking forward to many more.

    Islamic states never go with “Republic” don’t we learn from Islamic Republic of Iran? Isn’t this enough experience with mollah’s to show you guys “leaders” that ideology doesn’t let us achieve democracy 🙄really amazed the way Afghan’s leaders think
