A lot of people I know who aren’t sneakerheads are just happy with them being readily available. All these resellers/hypebeasts fail to see that they’re not the only ones buying the shoes.
Exactly! This is a hype-focused viewpoint to say they F’d up. Not even close. It’s a marketing trend as old as time. There is a window at which exclusivity can only give you so much cache, revenue and relevance. The UltraBOOST was always the top-of-the-line technical runner for adidas… THERE ARE 1000x MORE RUNNERS IN THIS WORLD THAN HYPEBEAST! So sure, UltraBOOST ran its time for being a hype shoe, which it was NEVER meant to be in the first place. When the UltraBOOST originally released, it sat! I picked up (3) pair of the OG within the first month and never had to sweat a release day, at all. No one cared until Kanye wore the triple white and then every hype head in the world was like “Kanye invented Boost!” SMH.
ITA, these hypebeasts and resellers are just mad that easy accessibility means they have to 'share their toys' with non-sneakerheads now... which imo is such a lame/childish AF stance to take. Arguments regarding trends/hype turning people into sheep aside, a very close uncle of mine happens to be a cancer survivor who had his leg operated on. After all the operations/rehab he was able to finally walk again, and UBs/NMDs are one of the only types of shoes he loves to wear. They have a pretty minimal silhouette, are pretty easy to clean, and most importantly are very comfortable. If the over saturation of UBs/NMDs mean that that kind of comfort is slightly more affordable/easily accessible to people who have trouble finding comfortable sneakers... that's 110% OK with me.
You're correct from a perspective of being relevant to the streetwear/hype scene, however in terms of actual revenue coming in Adidas are doing better than ever and truly that is all that matters to them at the end of the day. Getting Kylie Jenner to wear a meh model sells a whole ton more to young females than a single classy collab capsule with a semi unknown streetwear label selling to a smaller more passionate group of 'heads.
One of the fairest points I've read so far. I would contend that it takes that small niche/passionate market to get the ball rolling. You can still sell mass market while remaining "cool" the culture. Nike has done that for a while now regardless how we feel about them. There's a reason why Nike sticks with athletes and designers like Virgil. They can appeal to a mass market AND remain relevant. Something adidas was doing very well until they decided they wanted to be ubiquitous. Which is fair BUT you need that niche market to "hype" it up for lack of a better word. Its the reason why the Ultraboost became so popular. Without the "line standers" the UB is just another sneaker. There's a reason why they fostered it for 2 years straight. People wanna know what the hoopla is about and then get involved. You know this though, you've already shown that with an excellent point.
+Alex Jones I've gotta disagree, simply attaching a celeb to a meh shoe won't do anything but highlight a trash sneaker. There needs to be a certain synergy and correlation between the product and celeb. Just look what happened when Steph Curry tried to make Underarmour hot 🤦♂️. Also 3 of today's biggest celebs Kylie Jenner, The Weeknd & Rihanna are with Puma and they're still 💩💩💩
@@Natak222 oh I don't disagree whatsoever in terms of the shoes actually being meh. But in terms of revenue being generated for the companies these things work which at the sum of it all is what the companies want.
@@ReggieCasual cheers for the positive reply. Yeah you're definitely correct in terms of the smaller passionate types (sometimes "hipsters") starting the trends that eventually filter to the masses, something alsoapplicable with music and even food. But I question should Adidas continue on their current marketing path if they'll do just grand or will need to rekindle some of that 2016 magic again in order to compete at the top level? From a purely selfish perspective I'd like to see the Sneaker Exchange program return. Genuinely made some interesting stuff.
I mean at the end of the day adidas is a corporation and they want to make money they still do collabs but most of the people dont care aboit the hype of the shoe and just want something thats comfy and looks nice.
Nike and Adidas have two different philosophies - Nike wants to have capsules that tailor to subcultures, giving smaller and more personalized products (i.e. carhartt, sacai, acronym, mars yard, etc.) Adidas wants the world wearing three stripes, with most of it being based around conformity - looking the same. That's why they focused on oversaturation with the nmds and ultraboosts, that's why kanye has so many colorways of the 350s (his easiest shoes to pull off) and why Pharell made so many human races; Adidas has a focus for the lowest common denominator, while Nike wants to have individual pieces that specific groups of people will cherish.
This is so incredibly revisionist. Adidas was the first to partner with the boutique sneaker shops and artists like Pharrell and Kanye. Nike at the time only gave designer sneakers to basketball players and only started those collaborations with Acronym and Mars Yard because they saw Adidas do collaborations like that in the first place.
I can see your points. But I see the Travis collabs being for hip hop heads and the Virgil ones being for fashion heads, but so happens they caught on. Adidas used to do that sure, but they’ve transitioned away from that. Nike does do the over-saturation thing and ruin great silhouettes but they have a lot more tiny drops of unique sneakers than Adidas. The closest they went was the 3D printed soles
This is it, if you look at sale sections on any sneaker sites you'll see far more funky nike shoes that didn't catch on (like the air lwp 16 which is my new favorite sneaker) wheras with adidas you'll just see shitty colourways of overdone sneakers.
Pannufam • Those 3D printed soles are technologically DECADES ahead of Nike air. Maybe centuries, if Nike let it be. Adidas care about the materials too much, but that’s what makes their shoes worth the money. I feel okay buying adidas for 200, but Nike ALWAYS feels like a rip off. Unless they’re a nice run of Jordan’s.
Same for the Gosha Rubchinskiy, anyway all these are out of price. The Iniki is great but strangely is not a hit as it should be, I guess Deerupt and Prophere as ugly as they are did not help, plus the silly name change did confuse people not to mention the poor-man version the N-5923. Anyway I discovered Boost about two years ago and the slow down on the hype gave me the opportunity to get some nice kicks.
Just because the hype died on a couple shoes, doesn't mean that there not selling a ton of them. They are probably making a lot more money now with more Yezzys and Ultra Boost in market now. Hype helped make the shoes popular. Now anybody that want them can have them. The resale market means shit to them.
I believe adidas has been coming out with really nice models. The yung-1, yung 96, kamanda, deerupt, the nite joggers, crazy byw, etc. They are mixing the old with the new right now.
everyone knows that if they just kept everything stupid limited and kept resale up this wouldnt happen, the shoes are just flat out better than nikes, but people dont like them anymore because they need to feel special but not TOO special, cause then its not HYPE
Jordan has a ton of different looking sneakers, nike have airmax 90, 95, 97, 2k16,17,18 270s, 720s, vapormax, tuned1 hybrids and way more. These all have unique and different designs. Be honest, all adidas have the same type of design.
It's not just Nike anymore -- New Balance is slowly making moves and Puma is established in Korea AFAIK. Asics is revamping their Gel Kayanos while collaborating with high-end designers like Kiko Kostadinov. It's a new year, go earn your stripes back, adidas.
Mikael Roque Puma and ASICS are really doing their job with this dad shoe hype. I never thought i was ever gonna like puma or ASICS but they made it happen
@@mervwa Yup, and the funny thing about Asics is that their silhouette never really changed, it's just that the trend right now caters to Asics' design. Balenciaga's Track Sneakers even look like Gel Kayano 5's.
They had a good run with Raf Simons, Rick Owens, Kanye, Ultra Boost, Y-3 and others. Unfortunately, Nike is moving with that same blueprint with Undercover, Sacai and god knows what else. It may get ugly Germany.
IAmFozzy100 dude just admit ur biased against nike, quit brining up a single shoe that had a bad release, the rose monarchs were quite innovative and you don’t see adidas even trying things like that.
Love sneakers in general, but still prefer adidas to Nike. It’s an ebb and flow and I can only hope they continue to push each other. It’s never a good thing when only one side is winning.
Nike to me is better on design it just look cooler I don't know how to explain it lol I came up in the 90s and my love for JB really don't even make sense considering that the SUPERSTAR Adidas was my shit, always. Before Forces N All That, But I loved the Jordan 3 Black Cement, even the Sport Blue 3s just as much if not more. Not to mention Air Max, Foam Posite, The Air Force (they answer to Shelltoe LOL) Griffeys LBS MJS on and on and on...I even like the Frees and the newer stuff they have out tryna respond to Adidas, but I do think Adidas has the edge on Nike in runner/trainer type shoes obviously, because of hype better price point and just more comfortable. When I switched to Boost it wasn't outta hype it was outta desperation. I walk marathons when I work lmao, so I needed something a lil more light versatile and softer on the feet. Bladadah, that's when the Mozzy started goin to Adidas haha but just for the work/casual wear Jordans always be that shit to me
While I appreciated the video and research you've did, it's a bit short sighted since adidas's lineage of collaboration goes back further than yeezy. Adidas is also way more invested in lifestyle clothing and less in sneakers as they have realized that the sneaker market at this point is verrrrrrry saturated. The target group of the dragon ball collab also wasn't necessarily sneakerhead or streetwear afficionado's; it was more about the casual buyers who are now at the age where they have the money to splash a little bit of nostalgia. Everyone I know who bought the dragonball collab is not into sneakers nor invested in streetwear culture. So yes, you could say adidas fell off because they failed to make new relevant models of sneakers in 2019 and market them in an efficient way, but we all know sneaker culture and hype. We know that they are just one shoe away of being right back on track.
It doesn't matter if the hype is dying. They're still raking in loads of cash. Limited releases hype the fans up, but that's about all they accomplish. It's good for the resellers, but there's next to no money in it for Adidas other than elevating their brand. They're doing the best thing for themselves by making the once "hype" and "limited" shoes more available IMO.
What is Nike doing thats so special? They have old ass technology in their shoes with Air. Aside from the collaborative stuff, their stand alone stuff sucks. Even Jordan's are sitting, and are easily attainable at your local sneaker shop. I just find the Adidas brand more appealing these days.
We all got comfy on boost hype train but Adidas was riding it so hard we all got sick of it and had to jump out to the Nike station for a breeze of fresh AIR
They was always ugly tho the only sexy boosted trainer was the yeezy v2s. How they gonna have that cheap polystyrene look just out there, at least Kanye covered that shit up with some smoother rubber. it may be comfy but it looks cheap and nasty. Why don’t they make a covered up boost shoe like Kanye did? That’s not so hyped? I would cop!
The fall of adidas was sad to see. Just goes to show what happens when you don't listen to the customers. People were begging for the ultraboost 1.0 because they looked so good. Adidas continued to make the 2.0 and 3.0 which looked horrible and turned people off the sneakers.
Make shit more exclusive = Make shit harder to get , so I can feel special again. What a narrow minded self centered video. Saturation doesn’t = a failing company . Saturation does equal people getting the sneaker they like without entering 100 raffles every week. Saturation is for the people and it’s clear you aren’t for most , your into hoarding for the few. Kick rocks bruh.
All they had to do was make more Ultraboost 1.0s, space out the releases and do collabs every now and then. That would have been a perfect sweet spot. Release alternates of the last major collab that's CLOSE to the same color way so others can get a slice if they missed out. Introduce new silhouettes along with collabs and done. You win.
Kevin Walker I didn’t say anything about saturation. Just that no one wanted the ultra boost 2.0 or 3.0. Everyone wanted the 1.0. They were general release sneakers but still used to sell out
I feel like the same thing is happening to Nike Vapormax, so many colors and variations, the originals were so much better. The silhouette change every year is dope, and then it gets bad throughout the year
1. 2.0 and 3.0 Ultra boosts sucked. Made too many and in some ugly colorways. 2. They flooded the shelves with so many uninspiring NMD designs and turned it into a roshe run.
Ludwig Vonn Actually my father and i had this conversation a few weeks back how it’s pronounced Adi Daas. Whether you are wrong or right, I personally love adidas boosts because I love the style and comfort... I don't wear them to follow the other sheep 😁🖕🏻
Let me tell you something, I do not wanna come off strong but when you made a video; just try to be impartial, just, then look at the finical records for Adidas and Nike, Think that it is a worldwide company so there are places other than the US on the map! Saying " Adidas will never be like Nike" is just a false statement because it is a business and companies rise and fall all the time so do not make it a fact! A fact: If you do not see someone wearing Adidas in your area, that does not mean nobody is wearing it and the company is dead! A fact: Adidas did better in 2018 than 2017 and you can check their finical statement! "better in numbers" If something is not hyped that does not mean it is dead! Nike is playing on the "exclusivity" factor so they keep limiting the supply of their collab sneaker so the "hot" factor does not go away! it was obvious that Adidas in 2018 were putting so much supply even for the collab sneakers and that is why you find some still sitting on websites!, they are following " supply more, we wanna see more ppl in the US wearing the 3 stripes". I agree with you on the "HOT" factor and that should be maintained and that what they are doing with 4D which sold out immediately and we just saw ZX 4000 4D + they limit the supply of some recent collabs like UB bape + CNY! In 2018; there was not much creativity in Adidas but that does not mean they are falling apart. + you gotta remember that Nike is playing on the Nostalgic part especially in the US using Jordan's OGs.
Dude, c'mon... ya ll can go and cop Jordan 1s from 1985 with different cws at $180+ and jack off on some nostalgia. Let us buy new and fresh sneakers at great prices.
It’s because of the success of Ultra Boost and Yeezy that Nike went real hard in 2018. Competition is always great because no matter who loses, consumer always wins!
Wear what you truly like. My collection has a solid mix of Nike, Adidas, and Asics Tiger Gel classics and guess what, the shoes that get the most compliments from random people are my Asics whether they’re GR or a very limited collab. Ultra Boosts are always up there as a top sneaker of mine because they’re versatile just going for a run which is what they’re originally made for! Kanye wore triple whites and creams (though he first wore Energy Boosts) and got the hype started. Ultra Boosts 1.0s were bricks on shelves before that. Don’t get trapped in the hype of anything and just find whatever works for you. You never know what could become your next favorite brands if you don’t look past the hype.
OMG!! Why did you made an 7 minuets video about adidas hype reales just say make less designs and more limited shoes so only us sneaker heads and wealthy people who can buy them but no students can get them and no mother or father can buy a 700$ black pirate yeezy for there son in Christmas
I liked video but I disagree, III has over saturated the market but I can't see any reason to buy any sneaker other than Adidas. ultra boost is stylish dam near all purpose and most comfy shoe ever,Yeezy 350V2 still fire depending on color way, 4D futurecraft shits on anything from Nike and 4D technology is innovative and sparingly used, with a recent Y3 4D drop,ZX4000D coming out next month, I’d say Adidas stronger than ever. I too live in Tokyo and all I see in Harajuku are Adidas/Yeezy and Balenciaga, it’s common to see an entire family wearing Yeezy(infants too)so again I disagree but good vid.
There was a time in 2016 or 2017 when there were like THIRTY colorways of the NMD released in a single weekend. It was nuts. Adidas had the street market in a chokehold from 2015-2018 but now it's so omnipresent that no one aside from mall rats gives two fucks about the three stripes in the long term.
Vid only makes sense from a hype/reseller point of view. Even down here in South Africa /// is way more prominent among young casual consumers compared to 5 years ago. Imo Adidas have cornered the market when it comes to comfortable understated footwear. On the other hand brands like Diadora, New Balance & Asics kill Nike when it comes to retro runners and quality material. When it comes to designer collabs I would argue that Y3 & Alexander Wang have released way more exciting silhouettes than any thing from Nike. Nike are a marketing behemoth and seems hype and an extensive silhouette back-catalogue is all they have to rely on.
The Adidas vs Nike Hype Curve will always shift , which is good because as you said, no one wants to see the same Shoes for decades. Unless you got the *Jumpman* ,because that Holy Grail wont go anywhere soon.
Honestly, there are people who buy the hype ones will still return them to adidas. We would sometimes laugh and say "Did they just wore them once, post it social media then return them to adidas within 30 days?"
The funny thing is I don't own ONE Ultraboost and only few pairs of Adidas sneakers. Most of them are from designers that appeal to me.
+Alex Jones
I've gotta disagree, simply attaching a celeb to a meh shoe won't do anything but highlight a trash sneaker.
*Adidas comes down from a sales high and lower prices* this guy: “YOOOOO ADIDAS F’ED UP”
He got paid by Nike i guess

Beautifully put.
"limited nature of the releases" the most hypebeast statement you'll hear why adidas fall. basically no hype when you can't resell them
Fuck resellers and "the culture"
Well Adidas made shoes for hypebeasts and then removed the hype from them, was never gonna work
The Alexander Wang collaboration was criminally underrated to be fair. Not sure why
Julian Alexander wang gets forgotten idk y maybe the retail prices are to high
YENMEDIA I love my Wangs. Such an underrated designer.
I copped the white/black BBALL lows at a tent sale. Insane design, one of my favorite shoes ever
@Nostalgic Life it's like that damn dad sneaker trend ugh
The resale market means shit to everyone. Other than resellers.

They should release more Ultraboost models with a black sole instead of a white sole, so that they don't get dirty as easily.
yea love the black boost alot
Happens to every brand, can’t wait to see what they create once they go back to the drawing board!
Real there you good, a positive thinker.. It will happen to Jordans next
I believe adidas has been coming out with really nice models. The yung-1, yung 96, kamanda, deerupt, the nite joggers, crazy byw, etc. They are mixing the old with the new right now.

A_lot FACTS! Only hypebeasts say that Yeezys are dead. They’ve switched sides and started wearing Nike Off White lol
Ummm they just released many color ways, shit is still limited but some people moved on. Yeezy's current line is not that great IMO as it used to be
Ultraboost turned into basic everyday daily drivers. That being said I love them.
'wow adidas just did more and more of the same shoe how boring' looks at airjordan 1s, af1s, airmax... its the same thing.
Jordan has a ton of different looking sneakers, nike have airmax 90, 95, 97, 2k16,17,18 270s, 720s, vapormax, tuned1 hybrids and way more. These all have unique and different designs. Be honest, all adidas have the same type of design.
Im picking Up Ultra boost for almost Half the Cost best everyday sneaker ever ! Don't care about hype
Any pair of boost are welcome on my feet, that shit is by far the best thing i ever wore on my legs.

They had a good run with Raf Simons, Rick Owens, Kanye, Ultra Boost, Y-3 and others. Unfortunately, Nike is moving with that same blueprint with Undercover, Sacai and god knows what else. It may get ugly Germany.
IAmFozzy100 I agree but this ain’t 2018
IAmFozzy100 dude just admit ur biased against nike, quit brining up a single shoe that had a bad release, the rose monarchs were quite innovative and you don’t see adidas even trying things like that.
Love sneakers in general, but still prefer adidas to Nike. It’s an ebb and flow and I can only hope they continue to push each other. It’s never a good thing when only one side is winning.
Tbh I disagree adidas really puts put unique stuff compared to nike
PHENIS & PHLERB unique stuff like what
Its just variations of the ultraboost
Eg.
Nike made so much nice shit this past year what are you saying
Bladadah, that's when the Mozzy started goin to Adidas haha but just for the work/casual wear Jordans always be that shit to me
Adidas Ultraboost is so good it's ruining them. Imagine that.

Yes!
Great stuff as always, Reggie!
I don't care, ultraboost are comfortable as hell.... Will always buy colorways I like off the strength I like memory foam soles....
We know that they are just one shoe away of being right back on track.
veening be real, Adidas didn’t get much traction until Yeezy came in.
It's so obvious that 8.7k of people who like this video are Nike fans and this guy really didn't like Adidas afterall.
I just find the Adidas brand more appealing these days.
having to limit supply to make a shoe exciting probably means you should have made a better shoe tbh
We all got comfy on boost hype train but Adidas was riding it so hard we all got sick of it and had to jump out to the Nike station for a breeze of fresh AIR
VentusMaster under rated comment
Preach bro preach! 😎😂
The Fashion Archive I think maybe Adidas had been trying to keep up with Nike's frequent releases.
They were general release sneakers but still used to sell out
Reggie Casual I totally agree
This is some great, insightful, well spoken, and even witty content.
Seriously.
Great content.
I feel like the same thing is happening to Nike Vapormax, so many colors and variations, the originals were so much better. The silhouette change every year is dope, and then it gets bad throughout the year
Nice video man! Liked it very much.
1. 2.0 and 3.0 Ultra boosts sucked. Made too many and in some ugly colorways.
2. They flooded the shelves with so many uninspiring NMD designs and turned it into a roshe run.
brandon agree, they need to rerelease on some of the 1.0 and some colour ways of the 2.0
100% agree, especially the nmd part. They flooded the market with trash and basic colorways of both silhouettes.
Roshe runs were popping before the boost hype, Adidas just took that silohette and ran with it into the ground
Dope page. I'll be in Japan next year. Gonna have to go shopping wit ya
I gotta drop a dislike for the way you keep saying adidas, 1 time was okay but it started pissing me off.

"better in numbers"
If something is not hyped that does not mean it is dead!
What is the name of the shoes in the thumbnail ?
Dude, c'mon... ya ll can go and cop Jordan 1s from 1985 with different cws at $180+ and jack off on some nostalgia. Let us buy new and fresh sneakers at great prices.
True af, some people are so hypocrite
Because the 1s had some great clws and some had a awesome backstory. Not like some trash clws of adidas.
Adidas hired a professional search team to find the dragon balls, that's the only way
I mess with BAPE and Adidas but the upcoming bape ultraboost looks sooo cheap. The DBZ collabs was so disappointing.
You're right, I only picked up the Shenron's & Vegeta's.
The bape UltraBOOSTs actually have the bape Camo woven into the primeknit. I’d say that’s anything but cheap.
mrjt “Looks cheap”. I didn’t say they are cheap.
Was there a mention of the stock market and stock analysts report...
OMG!! Why did you made an 7 minuets video about adidas hype reales just say make less designs and more limited shoes so only us sneaker heads and wealthy people who can buy them but no students can get them and no mother or father can buy a 700$ black pirate yeezy for there son in Christmas
does anybody know what kind of ultraboost is at 2:34? black an white

Crazy how quickly it all happened
