  • 2nd in the series. Splitting hives using a double screen board and double screen board for two nucs. This way smaller splits can be made safely as heat from the donor hive keeps the smaller split warm even after the field bees have returned to the hive. Allowing the exodus of field bees radically improves the chances of the new queen being accepted. see my website www.BeeWhisperer.us

    If we put a royal house instead of a malika in every division, would it work?

    Or I can split the queen with one frame of? Plus 4 empty and 9 frames with fresh eggs on place to have sugar water on both?

      Size of split depends upon weather and your schedule. In wrm climates and lots of time available you only need a frame of bees or less!

    If they don’t build a queen cells I have the old queen on side . Your advice?

      Correct if the queen is there they do not build cells only in her absence....if that is what you meant!

    That is a busy day at the bee yard. You let the nucs build for 2 or 3 weeks before selling? They should make some good bees.

    Where can someone get the double screen board for a double nuc? I can't find anything like what you show in the video.

      I will have them in stock soon. I have someone make them for me and I ran out (using the ones I had left!!!)

    Great information as usual. Could you show us how you do a small walk away split to help control swarming?

      Sounds like a possible Splitting hive part 4! However, I dont like to do walk away splits as this forces them to make emergency queen cells. (so better to buy and ad a new queen, hoever I think it might be helpful.

      Thanks, I actually made my split with a couple of queen cells not yet capped. Hopefully it slows down the mother hive until I can get a mated queen?

      Your Saskatraz queens seem to be very high quality bees. Where do you buy them?

    How do you choose which hives to save for honey production and which ones to split into nucs?

    • @BeekeepingwithTheBeeWhisperer
      @BeekeepingwithTheBeeWhisperer  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Its fairly randon. Usually it is at the end of my nuc making season and I use the left over nucs. But this year because of making videos I will start some early.

      Would the hives you use for splits still have honey production? What if you just made 2 nucs from a strong colony?
