Watts makes a valve in that line which is MIP x PEX nipple. This is a much better choice as it eliminates the thread sealant and the extra parts.
Where did you find the springs? Menards here only lists 3/4x10.5 length.

Thats probably the correct spring. I thought it was 12" long.
