This is the third song in what we call the "Smile" trilogy (all of them contain the word smile). Three songs written as love letters to their fans. First was "Smile" about seeing the fans smile from their vantage point of the stage. Then "About Us" which is about the band and their fans being separated during covid and that we will one day be together again. And "Memorable" about how loved they feel by their fans.
It's even more beautiful when you know the back story. They wrote this during their October 2022 visit to the U.S. After three years they weren't sure they still had a fan base. They'd sold out a number of shows but maybe that was a fluke, y'know? After their first Oky-u-ji in Seattle, Kanami started writing this on the tour bus (Black Cat-chan, for those in the know). The concert footage is from their January 2023 Tokyo Garden Theater Oky-u-ji, and if you ordered the first edition Blu-ray you got a documentary of their tour that showed them writing it. Let this time continue on even in the dark days-Reach you. Nothing exists without meaning, You showed me that last night._ Each of these could be a song about a lover, and yet when you realize they are from the band to their fans, it adds some depth. Their band bio says they are "an impossibly hard rocking maid band" but they don't seem to think of themselves as a "rock" band or a "metal" band or really anything like that. They are artists. They've chosen music to express themselves. Often that music is loud, amplified guitar-driven music, but they'll use whatever is appropriate to express themselves. In this case, it's Miku's acoustic Zemaitis with the heart-shaped tone hole.
When they first showed off Black Cat-Chan I was so proud of them I may have shed a tear or two. Their first ever proper tour bus, and they deserved it!
Geek , the noise you heard before the song started is what BAND-MAID heard from back stage of the audience , Memorable was written as a Love Letter n Thank you to the Fans for the Love n warm enthusiastic reception , they received during their Oct 2022 U S tour 14 shows BAND-MAID was blown away by the fans , They weren't sure how they would be revived since they had not been in the states since 2019 , even though management said all the shows were sold out , BAND -MAID was still unsure , I was at the first stand alone show in Seattle , we must have made a great impression on BAND-MAID , cause , Kanami (lead guitar n songwriter ) started writing the melody after that show n played it for the rest of the band on the tour bus , Miku n Saiki then started writing the lyrics , they debuted the song at Their Tokyo gardens show in Jan 2023 , the MV you saw was not released until later , they still had to shoot the desert scenes with Miku , while they were in L A opening for the Last Rockstars show .
