I recall seeing a freak show with a mermaid & a “wild man”. It looked like a Neanderthal.

I had seen a show about that fair exhibit. When scientist got involved & came to examine it, which they did, the owner replaced the original with a very obvious fake & no one knows where the original is. The scientist even mentioned the smell of decay in their examination of the creature.
