    Legend, there is one thing with racing mechanic that is worth to note: If one of factions get the milestone buff, the other cannot receive it. So technically harming your opponent does "nothing" it is there to assure that player is able to get the highest tier, and is not locked out of its benefits.

    • @travisspicer5514
      @travisspicer5514 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      interesting, did not know that. Pretty easy to beat the AI though.

    • @akkere4052
      @akkere4052 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      Seconding this. A newer player may also easily lose the race if they don't take to building the supporter-gaining shrines early on, which is really important to secure the victory over the AI (imo makes more of a difference than anything else). You can also lose supporters quite a bit if you war with sibling Kislev factions, which happened often in both of my Tzarina playthroughs.
      Getting those supporter shrines is really important imo and might not be obvious to a newer player who might prioritize general econ buildings over.

    I once played Kostaltyn. I secured Erengrad and Azazel's tower and the land between, then sailed Kostaltyn off to bring the holy word of Ursun to the world. Colonizing and crusading in random places. It was the funniest campaign I've done.
    I converted the heathens of Albion and the Dark Elf menace. They trembled at the sight of Ursun's prophet.

    A racing mechanic should've been given to the Empire or Cathay. There's elector counts rivaling each other or dragon twins doing the same thing.
    While for Kislev this entire "civil war" idea sounds completely nonsensical giving the lore and circumstances. Like, Boris founded the Orthodoxy and suddenly, after his death, it doesn't recognize his own daughter as a rightful ruler, despite frost mages proving to be country's founders and savours for many centuries? Sure, why not fight each other when Chaos is already at your doorstep?
    It's like they didn't know where to put Hector & Paris mechanic from Troy and ended up deciding on Kislev by rock, paper, scissors or something.

    • @Eclipsed_Embers
      @Eclipsed_Embers ปีที่แล้ว +31

      from my understanding a big part of the issue is that Katarin herself generally follows the older faiths that Boris tried to get rid of, as a result she's generally held up as an icon and figurehead for everyone that would already be the Great Orthodoxy's enemies, that's why there's such a big schism between them.
      it's nothing against Katarin specifically, or against the Ice Witches (they just happened to almost all side with her), it's that they're all following the old faiths that Boris specifically made the Great Orthodoxy to get rid of. them fighting Katarin over this is basically just a misapplication of their intended purpose.

      For those that are curious:
      Early game: Just spam basic kossars. Maybe pick up a few armored kossars if you want/can afford them. Legend doesn't like them very much, but I find them to be pretty good at bursting down enemies before they charge into you for a solid HP advantage for your frontline units. They also do OK vs armor and are pretty good at killing lords/heroes when focus-firing. *Stay away from dervishes, they are arguably the worst unit in the game.*
      Mid game: Pick up a few strelsi if you're going against armored or low-entity count units. Light war sleds are also very good so long as you can maintain a speed advantage and can be cost effective with Ice Court traits + blue line. Tsar guard are a bit too costly at this point; you could get about 3 regular kossars or 2 armored kossars for the same price and they're not going to be much more effective at fighting what you're facing at this point. It's much better to have another army to cover more ground than to have tsar guards. A couple of winged lancers might be useful in some situations for harassing enemy artillery since you won't be able to counter them with your own little groms until T4.
      Late game: You can run full light war sled stacks, ice guard stacks + 2 little groms, Tsar Guard + strelsi + little grom mixed army, and war bear rider stacks (expensive unless commanded by Boris but damn near impossible to lose with 1-2 healing patriarchs). Kislev has a pretty good economy so long as you focus on resources that boost farm/market income globally and iron for global upkeep reduction.

      @@TheBoxGhost_tm Oh, you couldn't be more wrong about Dervishes. They're not shock cav and anyone using them like that is just playing poorly. Use them like Vampire Counts Wolves or Drycha's doggos to harass and divide armies. They get frenzy which isn't too bad, they're very fast so they're good at capturing points in a settlement battle, can out run almost everything you face in the early game, besides Azazel's cav if he has any and will lose to them, and can run down fleeing/broken units. The worst unit in the game is still Bretonnia's Peasant Mob or Orc Boys.

    I wonder if it would make sense, if the opponent (no matter who you play as) finishes the race first, you would get an event in which you can pick:
    1) Become their Military Ally and gain some considerable debuffs (showing that you're their bitch now, since they won)
    2) or declaring war on the other faction
    in both cases you would loose previous bonuses from the race mechanic and gain them back at max. only if other faction is wiped off the map. Confederation would be impossible and if you picked path 1) and at some point decide "that's enough", you would keep the debuff until you defeat other faction.

    • @Phoenix-sc6di
      @Phoenix-sc6di ปีที่แล้ว +2

      More intractability in general would be highly beneficial. Especially the inability to declare war. Pair it with a hefty de buff to devotion, but this is a civil war, let us fight it if we want.

    I fucking tortured myself learning how to play this campaign. Im new to this game, and out of the few armies Ive played I would DEFINETELY say this one was the hardest. I restarted after turn 5 like 5 times before figuring out that EVERYONE AROUND YOU HATES YOU. Not to mention his early game units are garbage. I basically did what this guy said to do, except I chose to target the skaven first over dealing with Azazel. If you go for Azazel first, you'll immediately be at war with 2 factions (Azazel's ally has settlements to your immediate west). Capturing the 2 ruins next to Zoisheck (or w/e the fuck its called) gives u a buffer zone against the other hostile factions to the north.
    I would also mention to recruit the ice court mages asap, the spells really help in the tough battles you'll have to fight (esp vs Azazel, his army is full of melee and people who charge, have fun trying to kite him without ice spells). Diplomacy is a MUST imo. I found it worth to establish diplomatic relations with all the empire factions for trade, as your early game economy is downright depressing (takes several settlements/provinces to establish an actual income).
    Save your devotion to decrease the Ice Court's supporters as much as possible (Ice Court has a SHITLOAD of buffs that makes her outpace how fast you can farm support).
    Remember, for the early game you aren't really trying to expand as you are trying to SURVIVE. You have multiple hostile factions the north, west and skaven to your east. Your 2 starting settlements can be easily flanked and raided due to it being on water (ASK ME HOW I KNOW :D).
    Hope my ted talk helps somebody, because playing through it as a newbie was like rubbing my balls with a cheese grater.

      I played Katarin as my first ROC playthrough. While I did great at the start, eventually taking the entire Kislev area, the campaign went on and more rifts opened and the demon armies go more challenging. I had to constantly throw back invasions from the north by Norsca or Demon factions, I lost territory to rift armies or armies to my campaign in the South, helping the Empire, and continued to be driven back deeper in to my own territory. By the final turns, I was making a desperate last stand, holding on to only three provinces, while I sent Katarin in to the Realms of Chaos to secure the Forge of Souls. I found it very tense and exciting, personally. I know the ROC campaign is hated by a lot of people, but I found the "race against time" mechanic to be enjoyable, and it forced me to do something else other than just press auto resolve in every battle after turn 80 or so.

    I really like Kislev campaigns. I don't think their economy is bad. You can make a lot of cash with the right tech, trade partners, and buildings. I also like how all of their units are pretty strong even on legendary (well maybe except for the horse cavalry)

    • @mandu6665
      @mandu6665 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Their economy is fine. People complaining about that are just playing poorly or trying to run a Strelsi stack by turn 10. As you said, loads of trade partners, good amount of loot from battles, sack, they can get a lot of construction discounts iirc, quite a few nearby ports, and their starting units are super cost effective. I've played both Kislev factions in ROC and IE and never had money problems. Their major settlements are money makers and once you take out Throt and your neighboring major threats, there are some prime spots in the South to take from either Festus or Vlad.

So if you miss the first milestone, it may not matter because you'll get the max rank benefit regardless.

    i did a campaign with him the other day, and the rush technique is no jopke, neither are his Kossar buffs. I didnt take your steps but actuallly Auto'd him on turn 8 lol. Then demolished Thrott a few turns later. The secret for me was in the kossar horse archers and the sled. Its so easy to kite them and even after the nerfs, the sled still rocks in chariot mode. Ppl who say their economy is poor, are probably not using Kossars effectively. Tempest and Ice are literally built for checkerboard, and Ice is god tier for blobs, whether its leopards or bears or patriarchs.They moved the tech around in IE so you can boost those kossars right from the off.
    I leaned in to Armoured kossar great weapons early and usually have them on the front line, a few streltsi placed how you place your empire rifles, then a checkerboard behind. Works like a dream if you have the horse archers confusingf the Ai. Also Dahl's brazier is his real main weapon. even though its blue, the effect is purplpe and its easy to see why.

    Different approach is instead of pushing north after you defeat rebel faction is to go south. Just south is Ostland with a gold mine so take their territory. Yes you'll have some empire factions be mad at you but you can research the tech to increase empire relationship and/or after taking Ostland keep pushing south and fight Festus and maybe give back some territory he took.
    With that you should have a strong ally to the south who with no Festus to deal with will take care of the vampires and drych so you can focus back on the north but with some territory you actually want and with some more funds.
    In my opinion he has the easiest start position for a Kislev faction. Also Erengrad is a city caravans go to so other than starting with the city who can develop the best economy with (harbor, market, and unique building which increases income) you have guys who just show up and give you money.

    Honestly, as an admittedly average or below average player, I personally find Kostaltyn to be...if not the easiest, then the least stressful of the Kislev campaigns when it comes to IE. Starting with one of the big three cities instead of starting with only minor settlements is a major boost, and because he has (admittedly minor) global buffs for your early tier units, it's kind of easy to just crap stack early on. Just take out Azazel early then fight Throt while keeping a stack in Azazel's tower to fend of Throgg's inevitable assaults is both fun and means you'll generally be swimming in Devotion.
    Also, I have no idea why, but Ostland seems less "Attack Kislev" happy when playing as Kostaltyn compared to playing as Katarin.

    Well, the thing is, if you let the other faction win, you lose the opportunity to confederate them this way. Even if you end up finishing the race later, and you wouldn't be able to get the greatest milestone bonus the race can offer since it would have been gained by the other faction. As such, it's still really worth doing the race. The in-game instructions implies that confederation option is lost once the race is lost. But I'm not sure if it does completely lock all confederation options with the rival faction. If it does, then it's even more important to win the race.

    I could not agree more with the Kislev economy. It is okay early on, but as you grow if you spam out farms and markets the multipliers will add up. I also find maintaining an absurd amount of supporters/devotion tends to help with control particularly in newly conquered provinces.

    I enjoy the content overall but these strike me more s guides than reviews "the first ones were reviews" I'd actually love some longer form reviews of each campaign. Maybe talk about what's good what's bad, what units are balanced/unbalanced. What factions need a rework and possible things that could be done. It might not be your type of content but I'd enjoy it

    I would Love If you seperate the Reviews and the Guides Into 2 Videos :)

  • @thule1823

    Legend, these reviews have completely devolved into guides. "Go here, do that, this is optimal". "This is a good skill, this is a bad skill". Whereas a review is when you tell how fun it is, how much challenge, how interesting the lord/race mechanics are etc.
    I understand people who want guides, but personally I don't care for them, but I do like to know what the campaign is like before investing 10 hours in it.

    The issue isn't Azazel, as Legend intimates, it's Throt. 4-5 armies after a few turns and that damned ambush.

    • @mandu6665
      @mandu6665 ปีที่แล้ว

      4 to 5 armies of total trash though. Either encamp or be in a settlement. Besides WH2 Eshin, early Skaven are total pushovers. Be aggressive, get a few Armored Kossars for better holding and your regular Kossars melt whatever Throt can throw at you in the first 10-20 turns. Get an Ice Witch hero ASAP.

    I think it would be cool to be vassalized or confederated, kinda like a grand strategy game. But I suppose I could always just play CK3

    • @mandu6665
      @mandu6665 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can become a vassal in Total War: Three Kingdoms and really pull off some cheesy or clever moves. I, playing as Ma Teng who has factionwide income bonuses for silk resources, accepted becoming a vassal of Dong Zhou. He paid me in items (By Sigmar, I wish we could trade items in WH3), trade agreement, cash and a silk settlement. I disbanded my armies, spent a few turns building up cash and settlements, and no one declared war because that would mean war with one of the strongest early game factions in 3K. Then when I had a strong force, I got my neighbor to pay me to break my vassal status and bumrushed my former master's wounded armies and undefended settlements. It's not Crusader Kings level of shenanigans but 3K has some really fun diplomacy gameplay if you put in the effort.

      @Cohanxvx ปีที่แล้ว

      That is pretty cool! I'm hoping some mods or updates to TW3, for that to happen. It would be super fun with something like that even if it would be less deep mechanics wise.

    As a long time Kislev fan every single aspect of annoys me.
    His gameplay, his lore, the mechanics, everything.
    I would go as far as say that i "hate" him, but out of all the lords and heroes in Warhammer he is the one that annoys me more than anyone. I really wish we could have an execution option when we win the race as Katarin or Boris.
