I did want the mk7 style key but after watching your videos I realised that can’t be done with a simple case swap

Will this work on the 4 button Mk7 GTI key fob?? Mine has lock, unlock, boot open and panic
Unfortunately there is no mk7 upgrade available
Can the golf mk7 key be converted? The LED is on the top right but not exactly in the corner.
Unfortunately there is currently no key upgrade for the MK7....unless you have keyless entry/ignition

No, all works a before. Just like changing the battery when it's flat
Great video. Trying to get the Mk6 key case open is quite difficult though. Any other tips?
Not really, just get some long nosed pliers in the gap and pry apart, it takes a little force but when it pops you will know....then get a flat head screwdriver and gently work round the case to pop it all open

Back plate pops off, small slot bottom on back, small screwdriver and it pops off 😀

You have the older style key, you can do mk7 rep key

No unfortunately it will not work with led in centre, different board shape inside....you can do a mk7 conversion

How can i take the cover off from the new key you did not show and i am not able to remove the glossy part wjere the logo comes on
It is held on with 5 small black clips....put a small flat head screwdriver in the bottom and gently push up
@@whatsdavedone104made it work out but the slot for the chip does not match the one i have. I dont seem to find any that fits the two buttun mk4 fob to do this mod. Now i broke a tab on my old key and have to open and close with the fob instead of the remote until i get a nee one and try again
What about the immobiliser chip
Immobiliser chip is glued to the board 👌 not like older style that has a glass transponder separate from board 😀

The cases should come with the gel badge. Since recording this video I have purchased 70 more for sale and they have come with gel badges.
You can purchase 14mm gel badges on ebay amazon etc

Finger nail under back plate, or very thin bladed screwdriver, work way around releasing 3 plastic clips

Yes it should do as the board is same size

Happy to report back that at least the 2 button version of original key with the LED up top does fit as yes, they’re in the same spot on the PCB as a 3 button

Is the sanding down/making the key shorter essential on every conversion? Ive just received mine
The slot to fit the blade in is smaller on the new housing so yes it need filing to fit....or you could take the blank blade to a key cutter with a CNC cutting machine and have the blade cut for a cost of around £8...Timpsons in the UK offer this service 👍

12mm...in the video I said they don't come with badges, they do come with badges they "forget" to put mine in when I ordered
Hey mate! Please,i have an issue with my key case. When i move the original chip into the new key,my car will start and immediately shut down with a “safe stop” message. I have the transponder glued to the chip, but i don’t know what would be the problem. I did the exact same thing as you did. Any tipa would help,thank you!
Is your led still working? If led is broken then transponder will not be recognised by immobiliser
Hey Dave, did you encounter any issues where it states that the “key was not in range” I’ve done the swap over and it gives me that message and turns the vehicle off. My stock mk6 key works fine. Thanks I’m advance!
I have done 125 swaps since this video and had no complaints. Only thing I can think is you mk6 original key had a glass transponder pill in it that you haven't moved across....its not covered in my video because most have the transponder glued to the circuit board

I didn't see this video till 'after' buying a couple of fobs from Aliexpress 🙁 The ones I ordered even have an RFID capsule but not planning on using that feature.. just access to my car. The Ali ones have a blank blade and wondered who would cut the blades (in situ I presume?) as I really didn't want to dismantle the blade and find someone on eBay that would cut the one I provided. Seems that not all blades are identical... live and learn) Did Timsons do the blade still attached to the fob, for you. Thanks for replying

Mk5 key can't be swapped to mk8, the board is wrong shape....you need mk7 rep key upgrade for mk5

@user-os6re8kf6v you can have a newer key coded yes but it's not cheap...younwould be looking at around £120+

Where did you purchase the case from? Contact the seller, should have 2 screws and gel badge

The immobiliser chip is glued onto the board....when you move the board you also move the immobiliser chip
