Tennis has a long Olympic history but withdrew from the programme after 1924. It did not return as a medal sport until 1988. Professionals are now welcome to compete, and the Olympic competition includes men's and women's singles and men's and women's doubles.

The Wimbledon crowd is relatively respectful compared to the other Grand Slams, but it was still rather annoying how loud they cheered after Sharapova's unforced errors and double faults. I get it, you're rooting for Robson, but a double fault is nothing to applaud. Anyway, glad it didn't affect the outcome of the match.
Laura really reminded me on Lindsay davenport here! am still at 5-5 in the first set! I hope she can return from injury and get to that level again and compete at the top of the game! the talent is there just needs a wee something else! rooting for you laura!

@Christian Cullen I think at this point Laura's career as a tennis pro is over. Such a shame as she had a lot potential and is such a nice girl. I know first hand how tough it is with injuries as a sports person. Btw she looks nothing like she does here now and carries no extra weight the last time i saw her. A stunning looking girl in every way.

I am just wondering, how come Maria lives in the US and enjoys all its goodies, but in international events she represents Russia???? If she likes Russia so much, why does not she live there????
She represents Russia bc it's her country not the US. And she lives in the US bc she was brought there when she was 6 bc of her parent's job and lived there so she got used to living in the US but that doesn't make her American.
