From Italian Wikipedia, translated with DeepL:
I bet the list is incomplete.
Sometimes Italian police or military forces have mistakenly trespassed into the Republic, which has always made formal protests against the Italian government: March 25th, 2010: a van with two plainclothes soldiers from the Guardia di Finanza of the Gruppo Sportivi Fiamme Gialle, which left from Trentino and headed for Rome, crossed into the Republic and was driven back after inspections by the Gendarmerie to the border of Customs. May 8, 2010: a convoy of five Iveco VM 90 vehicles of the "Serenissima" Lagoon Regiment with about thirty uniformed soldiers leaving from Venice and heading for the military range of Carpegna (PU) was stopped at Fiorina and after the inspections was escorted by two Gendarmerie patrols to the border of Galazzano. May 10, 2010: a Fiat Ducato of the Italian Army with a military and a civilian on board from Caserta crossed the border into the Republic and was stopped for inspections by the Guardia di Rocca and the Gendarmerie, the military says he had to go to the Republic for an inspection. January 26, 2011: A military van with Air Force plates from the section of Bari coming from Rimini with five plainclothes soldiers on board the vehicle visiting for tourist purposes is stopped as soon as it crosses the border at Customs, stopped after the junction for the Atlas Centre by the Guardia di Rocca that guards the border, the military said they did not know the border and did not have the necessary permits to enter the Republic had to go back. February 2, 2011: a Navy car, and a van with civil license plate with two Air Force soldiers on board, two of the Navy, a target departing from Rome and heading north for a mission is stopped in the Republic, the vehicles are stopped at Serravalle and taken back by the Guardia di Rocca at the border of Customs. December 6, 2012: four Italian Army vehicles returning from the shooting range of Carpegna (PU) is stopped in Domagnano by the Guardia di Rocca and accompanied to the border of Customs. In 2010 the then Secretary of State for Foreign and Political Affairs Antonella Mularoni called the trespassing "serious incidents" and said that "the people of the Titan are tired of external harassment".

There is a reason why San Marino is so popular among the Russians: its proximity with Rimini. That airport has quite a lot of strategic air connections with Russia, especially in summer, and from there you can easily reach any holiday resort along the Adriatic sea. Since they land in Rimini, which is only a few kilometers from San Marino, and the small republic is well advertised in all the main hotels and other attractions in Rimini, a lot of Russian tourists end up visiting it.
No wonder why San Marino had a Russian-born representative in Junior Eurovision in 2015 (Kamilla Ismailova)
or maybe is the other way around. Rimini airport is so well connected with Russia because russians enjoy spending their holidays in this area.

"Piadina is the national dish"
Romagnoli be like: so you have choosen death
Even Cappelletti and Passatelli :^)
Just some clarifications from an italian guy that went to San Marino:
- VAT is lower than italy but some things are cheaper compared to italy (luxury things, perfumes etc) and some not (cigarettes, electronics etc)
- Weapons sold in San Marino are Airsoft Guns (guns that shoots small plastic balls) that are legally sold in italy freely to people older than 18yo, the only "weapons" that need a license to be bought are crossbows and some kind of knives.
- Many people over the years registered their cars/supercars in San Marino to avoid possession tax (aka "Bollo" in italian) and to avoid speeding tickets. Luckily this changed after the new laws for the tickets part.
- Piadina is NOT San Marino's national dish, it is the most famous dish from Emilia Romagna! If you come to Rimini and tell Piadina is from San Marino they might kill you, i warned you...
- San Marino "hosted" a F1 GP at Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari in Imola (where Ayrton Senna died) and a MotoGP race at Misano Circuit dedicated to Marco Simoncelli
- In the San Marino's territory is held the "RallyLegend" that is an historic car rally with former Group B cars and historic pilots that attracts many people from all around the world.
Penso che San Marino sia l'unica nazione al mondo in cui lo sport di punta sia il motorsport (anche perché a calcio son messi male, e il baseball chi lo segue al di fuori del continente americano ed all'estremo oriente onestamente parlando)

Ironically, this episode is launched at the moment when this country takes the first place in the world by the number of Coronavirus infected people per capita.
Good catch! Statistically, the sample size differs too much from the bigger countries for a comparison to be valid. (The list is topped by nations of under a million people.) My theory: These are the only countries that have a (nearly) exact count of the infected. As such, they might indicate the real infection rate in bigger countries. But that's just a guess.
They also have the highest number of deaths per capita, unfortunately. I feel really bad for them, their economy relies on tourism, they're gonna be hit hard
@@TomGeller they are pretty close to the covid epicenter of Italy though, so it makes sense that they have a much higher infection rate per capita than Italy as a whole
A huge problem of their is their very high percentage of over-65 yrs old citizens. Just like every small-to-medium town in Italy (so, well, the 85% of all cities more or less)
Not surprising, as in small and tight - knit communities, if one person has covid, after one day everyone has. AND they're rich, so they probably have good tests (and in big amounts), so they have more confirmed cases per capita.

Interesting fact about San Marino, they’re one of the very few countries to have a Formula One Grand Prix without having a circuit in the country. The nearby Italian town of Imola hosted the actual race but the race’s name was the San Marino Grand Prix
For anyone wondering, the other two are Luxembourg (held in Germany) and Switzerland (held in France)
Switzerland *used* to host their own Grand Prix up until the 1955 Le Mans disaster, since then motorsport has been banned in Switzerland with very few exceptions (funnily enough one of the first events after Switzerland started allowing events was when Richard Hammond sent a Rimac off a cliff when recording for The Grand Tour)
I remember when some time ago my country, Poland, played against San Marino in football. We lost a goal. It was a national catastrophy
Jakub Cesarz Dakos rip
You know... Until 2017, Davide Gualtieri - a player from San Marino - was the fastest scorer in an international football game. He scored for San Marino against England after 8.3 seconds in November 1993. And it took the English 20 minutes to equalize!
And then they thrashed San Marino 7 - 1.
@Master Of Fatality To be honest, I never saw the game so I only know what happened from other sources. But if you control the game (or at least have the ball for most of the time) without being able to score and losing, then you don't really control the game at all! For example, most of Iceland succesful games against bigger nations these last few years were games in which they did not "control" the game.
But in San Marino's case, the English did equalize and then set the record straight.
@Master Of Fatality So we agree.
Truth be told, That was only my attempt to present that fact in an entertaining way.
Amazing visuals and detail!

16:13 You misspelled the name "Giuseppe" (which actually is the italian word for Joseph). Great video Barbs. I had the chance to be there about 6 years ago (may 10th 2014). I did a one day-visit with my mom to celebrate Mother's Day, or how Sammarinese and Italian people would say, il Giorno della Mamma. You guys made me recall good days. Thanx!
Thank you guys for the wonderful video about my Country!🇸🇲🇸🇲❤❤😊
Nice job, but should have included the F1 San Marino Gran Prix, hosted in Imola (IT), where in 1994 Roland Ratzenberger and Ayrton Senna have crashed and died.
I was crushed when Senna crashed
The Grand Prix is how I first heard of the country.
Not really, track is literally like 1 hour away from San Marino, only reason it was called San Marino GP was because Italy had to have two races, but rules said one race per country.
That's also how we ended with European GP, Valencian GP, Luxembourg GP, Pacific GP and few others.
I know exactly where Imola is hahah, but "politically" it was San Marino's GP
I know about this country because they have a Football team and every time they lose by a hefty margin, even at the EURO 2020 Qualification. Sadly we don't have EURO 2020 this year.
Euro 2021 :(
Let's face it: as far as Finland was concerned, Liechtenstein was the San Marino of this year.
They scored the quickest goal in international football once, against, you name it, England.
I'm officially caught up on all of your A-Z countries now. I found the channel recently by searching for a video about Micronesia and immediately subbed and started at Afghanistan about 10 days ago. Time to move on to the flag Friday and other vids.
Love the channel man! Great educational channel that fills a needed niche.
11:03 wait, so you guys never tried piadina? You are missing out on A LOT!
16:03 "This dude tried to take over but got lost in fog" Hahahah
That's actually true ahah
Fun fact: Rab island has a summer festival with crossbow games, so another link with the motherland :D
by far , the funniest episode EVER !!!! and of course informative , great job !!!
If you say San Marino in the Philippines, people would say like "is that a brand of canned tuna?"
thank you i will now use this joke on my filo friends
Lol philippines a really fu*ked up country
@@That1HotMF no
@@Anthonyskylite san marino has more history than philipines
@@That1HotMF I would agree with you, especially with Duterte as our president.
Valentina Monetta better be on the famous person list or I’m rioting.
Valentina
OMG THE QUEEN!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was there a few months ago! Everyone should go to the micro-brewery Birrificio Abusivo. The owner was the coolest guy ever (and he brews some of the best beer I've had too).
Totally true about the Polish visitors and locals knowing how to speak Polish. I visited San Marino as part of a Polish tour group and was pleasantly surprised at how well the shop keepers spoke Polish!
Thanks for all the good content I just finished all the other videos
