I'm thinking of buying this radio. I have a 14sg which i can assign a switch for speech funtion. Does the 18sz not allow you to assign a switch for speech funtion? I.e switch for telemtry info!!
@@heron9524 If you're referring to voice telemetry, then yes the 18SZ has that feature. You can assign to any switch for telemetry readout just like the 14SG. But it can't assign non-telemetry related voice to switches, such as calling out "flaps up/down", "gear down", etc.
@@bohan9957 thanks for the quick reply. I'm not too concerned about flaps down etc. Maybe i read your comment wrong. As long as i can assign a switch for telemtry readout then i'm fine. Thank you
Futaba SZ series is just awesome, I have both the 16ch and 18ch. OK, it is FUTABA $$$$ BUT... NO glitches, great look and performance. and when I got the 16SZ a 18 months ago it was "cash no credit" for $599.99 @ my local Hobby shop. I paid it and was happy from day one. with all the telemetry functions and the voice . Maybe there is more feature packed and lower priced radios out there BUT I am totally happy with the FASStest protocol and my FUTABA 16SZH! And I would highly recommend it.
@@dontflyspirit6535 The gimbals feel ok to me. They have no binding issues and move freely/smooth throughout the range of motion. I have the heli non ratcheted version. They were fairly tight out of the box. I have not adjusted anything and happy with the Futaba 16SZH.
@@chrisberardi2304 Yes! 😯But I live so far from stores so I ordered what I thought would be good .... A Futaba T16sz and of course I can live with it, but I probably think I would have chosen something else if it were for the feeling. .. because it has a clumsy feeling. Settings are many but not so smart. And all the text on the radio is like painted with watercolor ... really poor quality impression..but has quality feel.
It boggles my mind that the 18SZ does not have switch assigned speech function. The competitors do that at much lower price.

How do the gimbals feel on the 16sz? It seems to only have one ball bearing per axis, which means less smooth than those quad-bearing gimbals...

@@rccosplay3249 how do they compare to the quad-bearing gimbals of 18sz, or spektrum's dx gen 2 line, or jr 12x, xg14, etc
On Futabas website it says the 16sz is 16 channels proportional and 2 digital, so it is 18 CHANNEL.
Does using more than 14 channels on either radio require using S-Bus? Thanks
Hi Ed, best to contact Futaba to ask that question. they nor Patrick monitor this video.
Are they identical gimbals?
Hi MojoPapi. Not sure, you might want to contact Futaba and ask them.
I believe the gimbals on the T16sz are the same as the T14SG. But i think you now much more by now.
So it's the same gimbals on the 18 as on the 16?
Good radios for old men 😁
@D town 313 depends what you like to fly, Futaba seems more popular with big planes and helicopters. Frsky with fpv and race drones.
@D town 313 Never buy a Futaba before you have feel it and get a close look at it. 🙄...? What did you bought ?🙈
@@jankarlsson5358 Wouldn't that be true for any radio?
