It was lowly, it was sneaky, it was cruel... and it made perfect sense. As for him clearly not enjoying the butler role... well, everyone has their personality. Sebastian relishes in the aesthetic of it, Claude doesn't, but it is part of the contract, so he holds his end of the bargain. That his world doesn't (temporarily) revolve around Alois, like Sebastian's does around Ciel, again, different personalities and approaches to a contract. It is not stipulated in those contracts that the demon must enjoy the human's company - whether the demon does or not is of no consequence. That Claude doesn't find Alois' personality relevant, nor desirable is not something to be condemned. He is a predator, a spider. Spiders are cold predators. Crows on the other hand? Warm blood, like shiny things, can be friendly and trained. Claude's so-called faults are simply part of his spider nature. He is intelligent, but his intelligence is engaged simply in the process of spinning webs, in order to hunt prey. That he found Ciel to be the juicier "butterly" in comparison to Alois...oh well. That he goes after another demon's charge.... lowly, sneaky, demonic, cold and honourless. But he is not required to have a sense of honor, and arguably seeing the other demons in the show (not just Sebastian), I'd argue it's the smart thing to (not) do in their world. Claude is the perfect demon, but not the perfect butler.
He’s beautiful trash for sure. A greedy demon that does the bare minimum to suit his role and completely missed out how great and twisted Alois was. Like. Yeah, Ciel is jaded and morally grey with trauma but Alois has so much chaos in him. He wears his trauma on his sleeve bc of how unstable he is- how did Claude not notice how great his soul would be?? Maybe if Alois hated him, he would be more interested. The damn masochist.
