"you can't force insight into people"
So he has tried to save humanity before, more than a few times I'd wager. They just didn't listen.

It's very implied that the Aged Man is a previous prophet. Joetheman's comment has a lot of good information but misses a lot of the specific details. A couple of things that show he is the prophet are the songs he plays and the statues in his house. First, the song is fleshless, specifically the piano version. This is the same song that plays in every dream you have where you interact with Daddy and the high ones, except this is the only time it's done on piano. The second is the statues which clearly reflect the people who died in the last cycle, except a couple that reference different experiences that the profit will have, one references the form the high ones took right after the potion initiation to the order, one references Calia killing the bandit leader when you discover the beacon, and the last is of the flashback to Calia and her father in angel. Two of those scenes are from several quests after the aged man's manor. These are 2 things only another prophet would know. At the same time the end of the cycle can only begin after that cycle's version of the lightborn dies, this is established in Nehrim the previous game in the series, as well as the starcity. So the aged man can't be a lightborn equivalent. Out of the known emissaries, only the prophet and conqueror are in a position to survive the cleansing. The betrayer gets killed before the end, the emperor has to activate the beacon, and arguably the conqueror would more than likely die trying to stop the beacon since they would never be in the position to learn what happening and that they need to flee to escape the cycle.
This part is more subjective, but his dialogue really feels like he is talking to a younger foolish version of himself. Seeing his mistakes replayed over and over again and not being able to do anything about it. Likely he was a prophet who took the ending where you flee to the star city and wait till the next cycle and try to stop it, and is meant to show that that ending is futile, that you can cause small deviations to the cycle but its almost impossible to break completely.

The Aged Man was probably an Emissary from a Cycle from long, long ago. He took the "Brave New World" ending, escaping the Cycle with his lover and hoping to guide the next iteration of humanity in such a way that they wouldn't make the same mistakes.
You can see how that's turned out.

The Aged Man is OBVIOUSLY a previous emissary. He even CALLS HIMSELF "fleshless" when you talk to him. Possibly even the prophet of a long far distant cycle. He hints as much when he says that "Being timeless isn't too much of a feat." notice he follows that with "You will find that out for yourself soon enough too." He is hinting to the fact that we are like him. That he is like our character. That we have this in common. That is why he calls himself a "fleshless eye." You also totally misquoted the entire ending section of your video regarding what the Aged Man says about giving answers, who he is and some nonsense about trials and tribulations? He never says that. He says:
"If there is one thing time has taught me, there are things one has to realize for him or her self. You can't force insight on people. It has never worked and it never will." After you click the only available dialog option after this statement he says"
"Who am I? Back then I might have given you an impressive response to that but at this time I couldn't say anything that would help you."

He is an Emissary, like the Prophet. Remember those afflicted with the Red Madness see the Prophet as a fleshless abomination.

Do you know the Aged Man
of whom no one knows from whence he came?
His house lies on the edge
    of a solitary cliff.
Glow of death and pallid light
    illuminate the dark of night
    gleaming out the windows
    of the Aged Man's abode.~~~

I like your video, that's a nice view on his identity. If you want to see a deeper analysis "Paradigm of the Low's" 40 min video really goes in deep with everything. It really looks like the Aged Man was the prophet (he literally plays "fleshless" theme we hear in our dreams) and he chose "the Starcity" route in the end, only to be trapped in a cycle with other more motivated ex-prophet, although it's just my assumption.

I hate how little information we have on him! With characters like the Veiled Woman, we have something, but The Aged Man feels like he wasn’t given the explanation he deserved.

I feel in a way he's like the Tom Bombadil of this world: an obviously transcend being who appears as an ordinary man, lives in seclusion, passively observes the world from era to era, and even the most powerful entities we know of refuse to mess with him.
Characters like these are supposed to be undefinable, and the best way to achieve that is, well, to not define them. They're a very good way of hinting at additional, unknowable layers of the world. Although I hear you, it would've been really cool to get some lore on him.

I wonder why he wouldn't try to build his own beacon with all the power he has. Maybe bacause only ceartain people can use Word of the Dead on the high ones and this is where the people always failed him.

I'm guessing he might have known what the beacon really was and wasn't willing to be the sacrifice for it or didn't see a way to really use it against the high ones

I do not think the aged man is a former god from another cycle because a shadow god usually kills all the gods in his cycle. If a god survives the onslaught of the shdow god or kills the shadow god the imbalance of an still existing god would destroy the world and kill the source of the imbalance in this case the god in question. Therefore a god can not survive multiple cycles. (All of this information is established in the prequel to Enderal Nehrim so I do not blame you if you did not know this.)
