      I watched the full review of the Speed 400 and the PD review of the Trident 660.
      Both bikes are Triumph and as per Shumi both have:
      1. Excellent fit and finish
      2. Good torque in the low end
      3. Not too much top end
      4. Vibey at higher speeds above 110
      5. Compact motorcycles that do not feel much of an upgrade over lower capacity bikes in terms of size.
      6. You will outgrow them soon enough
      I guess Triumph made them both that way since at different points in time, these were their smallest Triumph products.

    To the people complaining about the "character" argument, hear me out. While on paper a bike looks better, you can't see it's "character" and would automatically assume the Triumph to be the better bike just because of the specs and price on paper,the feeling each bike might evoke when you ride it would be completely different that changes with what a particular rider wants from their motorcyle. When you're looking for higher capacity bikes like these, if the bike doesn't give you a sensation of feeling special, then it's just another commuter with much worse fuel economy. As for the Triumph lacking "character", it might be just the perfect thing for someone who wants a very neutral machine that just does everything you want without much hassle. At the end of the day, "Character" is subjective and you needn't bother about Shumi sir's comments if you really like the Triumph. Test ride it and get it if it's for you ✌️.

      @@MrTransporter5 The problem here is that most people are worried about the pricing as our country is a VERY price-sensitive market. So while it makes sense to say the Triumph is better value for money, doesn't make the Harley a bad bike at all. In fact,it gives a big bike Harley feel unlike the Triumph that feels almost commuter-ish in size. And these things will matter to a majority of buyers who,for example, walk into a Royal Enfield Showroom looking for a "Bullet".

    Character is overrated! Can you explain what constitutes a motorcycle character?Dont say it’s just the loud thump. More often than not people just like lighter faster motorcycles. Triumph 400 ticks all the boxes for me!

    • @motorinc
      @motorinc  ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Character is something you feel (and yes, that's personal) when you test ride a bike. It's not a loud thump. Bikes _cannot_ tick boxes until you ride them. Until that point, you're just hoping that the spec translates into what you think it should be like. This excitement is lovely, but the basis of it, as hopeful as it is, is weak until you get an experience on it.
      As we said, the easy smoothness that forms the lack of character, as it were, is also why new riders will probably love the Speed 400.

    • @easternprestige
      @easternprestige ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@motorinc Disagree. The connect (read character reveal ) between man and motorcycle doesn’t happen over half a day of riding a motorcycle for a job. The bond develops & happens over months/years of owning a motorcycle and riding it across terrains. That’s when the bike’s true character will reveal itself to the owner. So whatever you conclude about a motorcycle are only good as an owners early misconception of his new motorcycle. Mainly because both haven’t spend enough time with a motorcycle to qualify to judge a bike’s character or it’s feel.

    • @SwayambhooChauhan-jh3be
      @SwayambhooChauhan-jh3be ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@easternprestige you are getting it wrong here. It's not the initial impressions he is talking about that constitutes to character rather the fundamentals. For example Royal Enfields in general have a character that you can feel when you ride them be it the old 350s or the twin 650s The low end torque that those bikes provide have a feel of their own . This can only be felt by riding not by the spec sheets and what you're talking about is attachment that you grow over the period of time with your bike that's no where close to what is being discussed.

      @@easternprestige When I bought my 200 Duke about 11 years ago, I test rode the following bikes:
      Honda CBR250R - Good performance and a comfy ride. Great for highway use but it had zero character. It felt sterile and unexciting despite being the quickest from 0 to 100.
      Classic 500 - Loads of character and quite exciting. Low end torque was the best I had experienced at that time. I ruled it out because it was an early batch and it has stability issues.
      Yamaha R15 - Test ride bike was in bad shape. No conclusion.
      KTM 200 Duke - Again, loads of character. The engine was peppy and I could easily spin out the rear wheel in 2nd gear on a patch of dust on the road. The sound and power delivery were so exciting! Just so much fun! I immediately connected with it and bought one. I always found it as much fun to ride as in the test ride even though it gave me a lot of mechanical and electronic issues.

    I see comments saying "paid promotion" and "boo character" on this Short and I am not surprised. I think I have started to understand why such comments are made:
    "Paid promotion" - The pattern that I see is that if someone disagrees with a reviewer's assessment, they slander it as a paid video. I think it really is that simple.
    "Character is BS" - This one is a little less simple but it is simple nonetheless. See, some of us ride motorcycles for fun. For us, it is an organic and visceral experience. We prefer to draw conclusions about motorcycles based on that experience rather than spec sheets. Yes, spec sheets are important but they are a prelude to the story, NOT the story itself. Most of the time, a bike needs to have character - an intangible, unquantifiable quality - for it to be fun. It is not an excuse. It just is. If you only see spec sheets and numbers, you cannot understand character. Explaining character in a motorcycle is just like explaining why you even love to ride motorcycles to a non-motorcyclist. Those who do not understand say "character is BS/ch*****pa".

      @@kkrrkumar Dude, first of all, I am not affiliated with this channel in any way. I just come here very often because they have great content. Unfortunately, I do see a lot of silly comments here and every now and then I am unable to ignore them.
      Now, as for your own comments, there are so many issues with them! First of all, the original commenter made a personal attack and you have no problem with and in fact supported it saying that it is criticism. You need to understand what criticism is before you talk about it. When someone makes an unsubstantiated claim like the OP did, it is slander by definition. You did not ask him to support his claim. If it was a genuine claim, there would be some evidence with it or even some specific points but there are none.
      Next issue, you called Motorinc's reply a personal attack. You clearly have it backwards. The OP's comment is a personal attack. The response is simply a message saying that they are independent and if he does not find their content genuine then he can simply move on. You need to know the meaning of the words "personal attack" before you use them because you are clearly using them completely wrong.
      Third, you have clearly not seen how Motorinc engages comments. Their responses are always civil even when there is a genuine disagreement and there have been a few. Most discussions here are civil even if some of the viewers aren't.
      As for whether Motorinc's content is biased or not, I watch most of their videos and I haven't seen a single instance so far from them to suggest that it is. Most of the objections I see in the comments arise out of simply a lack of and often an outright refusal to gain new perspective on the commenters' (viewers') part. Sometimes even a lack of "maturity" has a part to play. I am again referring to the viewers who leave weird comments like the OP. I am being specific here so you don't misunderstand. Again.
      I think that's a lot for you to process. Take all the time you need. I don't have any more of it to spare.

    So, character defined by loud thump is important than quality for someone like Schumi in a bike. Kind of surprised by your promotion of such a character. Are you playing safe? Triumph has never been about single character anyways. PR team of HD and RE has created a great "impression" for the brand image that it has converted people at the level of Schumi. I don't like retros and classics but clearly Triumph is a superior bike and also a VFM.

    • @motorinc
      @motorinc  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Loud thump is not the core of the character, Neel. The motorcycle feeling like a specific kind of experience is. The Triumph doesn't do it, the Harley and the RE do. This doesn't make one bike better than the other automatically. But the history of motorcycles tends to favour specific motorcycles to general motorcycles for a reason.
      Now. If you don't like retros and classics, naturally, the Triumph will probably be closer to what you're looking for. As to converting us to their PR view? We do believe that's not possible -- you should have more faith when an opinion offered doesn't agree with your view 😊

The BS4 390 Duke has one flaw in my view - the throttle response is too linear and too rider-friendly. It works well for most people. It works too well for most and that's the problem. It feels sterile. Shumi has a BS3 390 Duke which does not have ride by wire throttle. That bike is a lot more fun and is characterful. The BS4 390 Duke does not have character. It has flaws like extremely poor low end torque. You cannot get character from a bike by neglecting it. It is an innate quality. You will need to actually ride some motorcycles to understand this.
