I LOVED this attraction! I never got to experience "Alien Encounter," so I can't compare the two. Very fortunate enough that dream came true last year. I went on it twice lol. Really sad to hear it may be closing down. But I'm just glad I got to go on it and have those memories.

I'm sure it was as horrible as most people say it was, but I do kind of wish I could have done it when I got older at least once. I never got to experience Alien Encounter in person, but I had seen videos of it a ways before my first major visit to WDW (Thanks Jeff Lange DVDs). It was a total surprise to me the first time I went on Stitch and saw Skippy there in the pre-show, and a delightful discovery to actually get to see him in person after knowing him from the videos. I really hope Disney safely archived him after the animatronics were removed from the building. I have a soft spot for animatronic shows so Stitch was one of my go-to's every trip, and even though it was light on story, it wasn't an unpleasant experience; though the animatronics were always the best part for me, haha. Personally, I always liked the second pre-show a little better than the main show, with Skippy and 90210 and the "donut guy" always being fun to watch interact with each other.
I genuinely liked this attraction. My family tried their best to make sure I never experienced it by telling me that I’d regret it and I’d be miserable, all because they didn’t like it. I experienced it with my mom and sister once, I was hooked, and they said that if I wanted to keep doing it, I’d have to do it alone, and I did!
8:40. Ms. O: That means you, agents! Well, what are you waiting for? Go! Olympia: You heard Ms. o, everyone! Let’s get a move on it and let’s make it snappy!
I went on this ride during my first trip to Disney World, circa October 2008. I was 11 going on 12. I didn't like this ride AT ALL. It terrified me and the chili dog burp STUNK to holy hell. The footage here is amazing though. The audio is very clean too!
Honestly the real problem with this attraction isn't what it's not, a big problem is the character of stitch. Stitch worked in the film because he had characters to play off of so you would laugh at them being annoyed without being annoyed yourself. Here on the other hand, stitch is playing off of you. In the movie it might have been funny for stitch to steal a chili dog and burp in the persons face, but instead your the annoyed one in the situation
I think the biggest problem was that Disney was kind of backed into a corner with how they decided to revamp the show. The idea was to tone down the overt scariness Alien Encounter had, and replace the terror with more humorous moments that would entertain both adults and younger children. The big problem was that they tried to do this by recycling the same show system that was designed to be claustrophobic and scary for a show that wasn't trying to be. In doing so, they had to try and recycle effects that originally convinced audiences they were about to be eaten alive into something much tamer...and boy, did it backfire. It was still too scary for kids, but also too crude for adults. The refurb had a goal in mind, but none of the ways Disney went about doing it actually worked toward that goal. For something designed to give the show new life, the refurb ended up ripping out the heart of the attraction, putting a cute little Stitch bandage over the open wound, and calling it good.
I also think that the way this attraction should have been done was instead of recycling effects and the building design, in stead fill the room with simulator pods and make it a space chase simulator, that way the escape in the title makes more sense, and it actually ties in with a cool scene from Lilo and Stitch. Sadly, this didn't happen.
If they had gutted the building for the Stitch-themed replacement, they probably could have made something much better than what they got by recycling what was there.
Another problem with this ride was the fact that Stitch was mostly chosen to go there because he was HUGE with Disney back in the early to mid 2000s. Disney apparently felt like they needed a Lilo & Stitch attraction, but the result captured none of the spirit that made the film so popular and likable. In the end, Stitch's Great Escape was like an undercooked dish: it was rushed in to make profit while the Stitch hype lasted, and it was an excuse to get rid of the Alien Encounter complaints.

Short version, imagine if you were tasked with making a G rated cut of Alien, but weren't allowed to cut any of the sequences with the alien. No matter how much other stuff you tried to tone down, you can't cut enough of the scary stuff to placate younger kids, and the new G rated setup would also alienate fans of the original movie. Alien Encounter (the original version of the show) was purpose built to be dark and terrifying. Stitch attempts to recycle the show format into something kid-friendly. I remember the ride at the Magic Kingdom for the first time with my grandma and my mother back in November 2015 on my first visit to the Magic Kingdom. I got a little bit scared, and I don't understand why my mother didn't like the attraction because of the burp that was not necessary. I think this ride is kind of okay, and I like that the Stitch animatronic is cute.
No it was kind of like a show with special effects like stitch spitting, guns firing, and the restraints had hoses in them to make you feel like stitch was tickling you or the guns were shooting you
What would you prefer? Stitch’s Alien Encounter Character Greeting or Stitch’s Great Escape! I would prefer Stitch’s Alien Encounter Character Greeting because Stitch’s friendly personality is more magical than him spitting on you or burping in your face.

I won't consider I've made it in life until I see myself in one of your films. Great as always. agree with others, who thought turning Alien into this should have been sacked.

LOL
Me eating the dole whips 😂
I remember the ride at the Magic Kingdom for the first time with my grandma and my mother back in November 2015 on my first visit to the Magic Kingdom. I got a little bit scared, and I don't understand why my mother didn't like the attraction because of the burp that was not necessary. I think this ride is kind of okay, and I like that the Stitch animatronic is cute.
oml if I went on Alien Encounter I would die
I have announced that Stitch's Great Escape will be moved to Disney's Hollywood Studios due to Wreck It Ralph ride coming.

What’s the ride? Does it spin? Does it drop?
No it was kind of like a show with special effects like stitch spitting, guns firing, and the restraints had hoses in them to make you feel like stitch was tickling you or the guns were shooting you
This attraction is a type of theater-in-a-round.
How are you able to get permission to video these?
RyanTheAccuser I'm lucky to have made a lot of friends over the years.
It’s kinda cool they used Richard Kind for the sergeant. (A recurring Pixar actor)
Oh I just realized that, he was Bing Bong, Van, Molt, etc!
Martin the audio is glitched again
Wow this ride traumatized me as a kid and seeing it as an 18 year old in this video makes me think I still would be scared of it if it was still open.

What would you prefer?
Stitch’s Alien Encounter Character Greeting
or
Stitch’s Great Escape!
I would prefer Stitch’s Alien Encounter Character Greeting because Stitch’s friendly personality is more magical than him spitting on you or burping in your face.
