Van der Waals equation for real gases | video in HINDI

  • In this Physics / Chemistry video lecture in Hindi we derived Van der Waals equation for real gases. It is the modified version of ideal gas equation. While in ideal situation PV = nRT, where, P is ideal pressure and V is ideal volume. But in real situation pressure is less than ideal pressure, because of Van der Walls forces and volume is more than ideal volume due to the volume of the molecules.
    Van der Waals equation turns out to be the real gas equation and it is [P + a(n/V)^2] [ V - bn ] = nRT. Here, a and b are two constants depending upon the nature of the gas and these slightly depend upon temperature and pressure also. So we can not say that a and b are absolute constants for a gas.

    Volume correction mein kuch galti hai ya phir main galat samjha:
    Vi is the ideal volume, which means that it is the volume considered after assuming that the volume occupied by gas molecules is negligible. Basically, Vi = Vc, Vc = total volume of container.
    Vr = real volume, the volume considered after assuming that molecules also occupy a fraction of the container volume (Vc). Thus, Vr < Vi.
    And in fact, nothing can be higher than Vi since Vi is the entire container's volume.

    why in ideal gas equation we put Pideal = Preal+ an2/v2 BUT when we talk about Videal = Vreal - bn , is'y this wrong equation ? it should be Vreal = Videal - bn , so we should put Videal = Vreal + bn in the ideal gas equation then WHY WHY WHY do we put Videal = Vreal - bn???????????????

    no! volume of ideal gas is available free space which is volume of container. So volume of real gas should less than volumenof ideal gas.

    Not able to understand the square part of molar density, one (n/V) i am able to understand the next (n/V) i am not able to understand.

      You can think in this way ---- the number of molecules hitting the wall is proportional to the number density and if the number density decreases, the no. of molecules colliding with the wall at a time also decreases resulting in reduction in the pressure. That's why the second n/V factor comes.

    If we are not considering volume of molecule than Videal = Volume of container , and in V real we consider the volume of molecules but the molecules are also present in the same container than how can we say Videal less than V real

      Volume mean actually freely available space for motion of molecules
      If we see in ideal gas whole container volume is available for their mition
      But in case if real Gas
      Real gas occupied some space for them
      Now the remaining space is available us an actual volume for motion of these molecules
      That why we can say that ideal gas volume is more than real gas volume

    11:05 at this timeline... may be a second before or after.. you say that if more number of molecules are able to comtact... or exert pressure this means that the pressure reduction factor is greater.... but shouldn't this be the opposite. ... if more gas molecules are able to exert pressure.. this means that thw gas is closer to being ideal and the pressure reduction factor mist be smaller.
