Thanks for watching guys! "MIC Drop (Steve Aoki Remix)" is up next, tomorrow! Let me know which other BTS song I should react to next, and SUBSCRIBE to be notified when I upload the next reaction! My other BTS Reactions: th-cam.com/play/PLPChZieZzxBim375I6dozbXgrCkXV88dY.html
This song and MV is full of significance that would be missed by anyone who is not familiar with BTS' history and Korean culture, so I recommend DKDKTV video "BTS - IDOL Explained by a Korean". And their performance of Idol at MMA 2018 was jaw dropping. So I highly recommend it as well.
i suggest reacting to- "Who is BTS?: The seven member of bangtan" by SUGA & spice and "BTS // FROM NOBODIES TO LEGENDS [2019]" By xCeleste They both have a ton of information about the members and their history as a band
Actually, as far as concepts go they have meetings all together with the creative team (lumpens), they all share their concepts and Ideas, discuss kind of a rough draft/idea of what they want based on the concepts that they all come up with and then they leave the rest up to lumpens. The members don't get to see the final project until a few hours before release and it makes for some amazing reactions. Also, when shooting/on set, members tend to give ideas about certain shots or things they would like to include in the mvs, one simple example is the drawings you saw in the background (the members drew those themselves). It's a partnership in the true sense of the word. If you are interested in understanding the mv you should react to the DKDKTV explained video for it.
they have a specific creative team called Lumpens (director : YongSeok Choi) that create the concept/ideas and execute most of their music videos! the members often don't know how the music videos are going to turn out until they see the final product but it's nice to know they trust their creative team so much
they do actually get together to share their ideas and concepts to discuss what kinda way they want to go and what the theme is supposed to be for their comebacks (see the inspiration they took from Carl Jung's Map of the Soul which you'll find in every video and is overly present in their latest albums and many songs) So they do lay the groundwork together, the final details are worked out by Lumpens
Bts said it themselves, they mostly focus on producing the music and writing the lyrics while their company comes up with the concepts and the story lines😁
If you want to understand the meaning of this song or MV, you can watch the explanation video by DKDKTV. Anyway.. after Mic Drop, I hope you react to these videos: -NOT TODAY -BLOOD SWEAT & TEARS -FIRE -DOPE -SPRING DAY + The explanation video by 'Bulletproof Vibes* -ON Official MV -HEARTBEAT And if you want to know them more personally. I recommend you these videos: *-WHO IS BTS: THE SEVEN MEMBER OF BANGTAN* *-BTS CONTRIBUTION TO MUSIC* *-BTS NOBODIES TO LEGENDS 2018 AND 2019* *-THIS IS BTS: CRASH COURSE TO A WORLD SENSASTION (2020)*
yeah... I highly recommended DKDKTV for explanation as its come from a korean that fluently speaking both language... cause most of the color lyrics translation is different than actual meaning of the words that they (BTS) using in their songs!
DKDKTV channel has a good “explained by a korean” series that breaks down many of BTS videos, including this one and it would be worthwhile watching them, it explains many of the things that you pointed out. Of the drawn characters that you picked out, SUGA’s is actually his BT21 character. BTS collaborated with Line Friends to create BT21, each member created their character. Anyway you should really check out the explained for IDOL Edit: oh and the members pronounce SUGA like “shoo-ga”
If you really interested in BTS lyrics, I would recommend you to check out this 'Explained by a Korean' series done by DKDKTV (they explain IDOL too). They will help you understand the context and culture behind the lyrics and MV better. They didn't explain every BTS song, just the one that need more context from a Korean. You can just watch out what songs they have on the explain series then return to watch it whenever you react to the song on that list.
i love this series of bts mv reactions! IDOL is the trippiest mv ever lmao this song and mv are a mixture of african and asian cultures, dances and sounds. this song was played a lot in night clubs, ads and tv shows. it talks about loving themselves, haters paying attention to them 24/7, people at the airport not giving them space, media, things they love and more. it's such an anthem, and an hymn of self-love can't wait for other music videos like Mic Drop, Blood Sweat & Tears, Make it Right ft Lauv, Not Today, Fire, Save Me etc. if you want behind the scenes of this mv th-cam.com/video/LAdvo0kOz8A/w-d-xo.html fake love mv behind the scenes th-cam.com/video/JsoMuaewpZs/w-d-xo.html
I’d say they’re both trippy in different ways. Like ‘Idol’ is trippy because it feels like there are 100 people screaming something at you and ‘BST’ Japanese Ver. is trippy cause if feels like somebody just spiked your drink.
This video can be interpreted as a clapback for everyone who was running their mouth back then on them being kpop artists doing great in the West. People used many stereotypes about Korean/Asian people as something despective, like "there are too many people in the groups", "you can't understand what they are saying", "they all look the same", "too many colors and stuff on the videos make me dizzy", "it's all too fake", while the k-pop community was calling them "westernized". Yet, they came back with IDOL, in which they reference Korean culture a lot, showing that they are still unapologetically Korean and will remain so, also referencing all those mean comments directed at them (and kpop as a genre) and overdoing them with CGI, like the titan versions of themselves, the shark, the multiplied member's heads in one of the shots, the SNOW app filters, the explosion of colors EVERYWHERE- The rabbit in the moon is a reference to a mythical figure who lives on the moon in Far Eastern folklore. In East Asian folklore, the rabbit is seen as pounding with a mortar and pestle, but the contents of the mortar differ among Chinese, Japanese and Korean folklore. In the Korean version, the rabbit is pounding the ingredients for rice cakes. The word you liked in the chorus is "ursoo!" which expresses a happy, joyous feeling and it's from Korean traditional performance _Pansori_. You could compare it to "Oh yeah!~" in English. Some notes: -One of the dance moves is an African dance called gwara gwara, the prints of their suits are also African -There is a Nicki Minaj remix of IDOL with a music video, some of the shots are different so that MV is not entirely the same
I was one of the people who purposely ignored BTS when they got famous in the West (been a kpop fan for more than 10 years) because I was a fan of another group. THEN they released Idol and I was so impressed bec a lot of artists would try to embed more Western aspects in their music and overall package so they could be more acknowledged, but no, not for BTS. They literally shouted out "I'm proud of it. I know what I am, I'm never gonna change, I'm never gonna trade." And bombarded them with the very things in Asian culture that they were criticizing. Talk about bad ass. This is why I love them so much. They are not afraid to be themselves. They love to make music and inspire people and they do just that. Now that they are at the top, they still keep on doing that, despite hardships and doubts. They remained true to who they wanted to be when they first started.
I also remember, there was like a voting for a song that would be played in Fifa World Cup Final. BTS’ Fake Love were nominated against other songs and haters/antis against it said “tHat sOnG is noT sUiT fOr sPorT sHoW”. Months later, Idol released. BOOM, I love how BTS always reply to them with art & creations.
I just binge watched all your BTS vids so far. You're one of my favorite reactors yet. I can tell your reactions are so genuine and that you have a deep love of music in general that translates into your appreciation for BTS. Really excited to see you react to more. Others have suggested it, but I'd love to see you react to their 2018 MMA performance. I think your mind will be blown by what they can do live.
4:27 the actual lyrics there are 덩기덕 쿵더러러 (deonggideok koongdeoreoreo). It’s a traditional Korean music beat called 굿거리 (gutgeori)! The next lyric, chanted in all the hooks, is 얼쑤 (eolsoo or ursoo to make it simpler) which is a sound you make out of excitement when you’re singing or dancing to traditional music in Korea!
They're really hands on in everything they do. Big Hit and BTS has this family bond thats why when they work together a beautiful master piece comes out. They trust and love each other thats why.
honestly that video made a lots of koreans proud bcs that videos has a loooots of korean traditions including the bum burubum you sang, those fans, those hangeuls, their traditional hanbok clothes, korean traditional house, the color they use, rabbit on the moon, etc etc.
BTS received a lot of critics of “being to westernized” by some koreans and kpoppers mostly (specially by the term *idol* >singers/rappers on the kpop industry are called like that< wich btw this term carries a lot of prejudice cause korea seems idols as not real artists) and received critics by western media of them “being too colorful”, “too weird” and many other things. so idol is an MV in wich BTS addresses all these critics saying that they are proud of being idols, artists and koreans.
those massive colourful things dancing at the end of the video are Korean lions. They are costumes used for an auspicious dance for bringing good luck at events and ceremonies, especially the Chinese new year. In this video, apart from the thousands of colours and trippy patterns (which by the way some of them are references to episodes of their lives and other music videos), you'll also notice a lot of references to Asian culture symbols and history. The Middle-Eastern-inspired building (where they're dressed with those safari outfits), a citation to John Woo (Chinese director known mainly for the movies Mission Impossible II and Face-Off) and Running Man (a Korean variety show), Nongak (I'm not sure if that's the correct name) which is a folk dance, where you see them in a circle, spinning while jumping diagonally and so on. Also in the dance routine, there are some inspirations taken from African folk culture and in my opinion, those Korean lions themselves are very similar, both physically and conceptually to Wolof and Mandinka hunters' masquerades. It's a celebratory song, with a very adequate music video, where they say that they're embracing themselves as artists, idols, human beings (with qualities and flaws) and Korean natives. Ultimately by saying that they know who they are, they are telling their haters to stop judging them, mind their own business and go f*ck themselves. If you're interested in this type of music videos, I think that another good one could be J-hope's (the only one with dark brown hair in the video) single "Daydream", from his solo mixtape. I love that song and the music video is really trippy as well.
Trust me, you've only seen the tiniest tip of the BTS iceberg. If you keep digging you will find out that all of their videos have such deep meaning and many are connected with their fictional BTS Universe. It's actually mind-blowingly brilliant! You could probably make BTS video reaction videos for months with just the content that is already out there, (you've got to watch their dance practice videos!) but they keep adding more and more content almost daily. I would also recommend you watch RM's United Nations speach. Their messages through song are amazing, even for 50-something women like me. Your reactions are so fun to watch. Keep it up!
Lumpens and GDW are the two Korean film production companies that have worked with Big Hit since BTS's debut. GDW's production highlights wide-angle cinematic frames, action shots and showcases choreography well (i.e. Save Me, Not Today, Dope, Boy With Love and more) while Lumpens highlights harmony of colours and patterns, unique frame transitions, and just overall attention to fine details (Idol, DNA, Fake Love, Serendipity, Blood Sweat Tears, and more). Both companies do a really good job of translating BTS's lyrics and message into visual form for the audience to better interpret. Nothing in BTS's videos is random. It's one symbolism after the other, so you should definitely check out explanation videos from DKDKTV, XCeleste or others. As a side note, Bang Producer (Big Hit's CEO) has really stayed true to his goal of creating an environment where all artists are valued for their skill and hard work rather than being treated as music-making factory slaves.
They actually combine Korean culture in this music video and music. You can see the temple, the flower, the tiger, and their clothes all features Korean culture. They are advertising their own culture, which is soooo cool
They performed this live on the Jimmy Fallon show. That's how I was introduced to them and fell in love. You can see in a live performance how they have the exact same energy to sing and dance at the same time!
4:35 that part is actually a tradicional korean sound people use to make during songs to celebrate or something like that, and all the video have tradicional korean references, like the rabbit in the moon, they're a Korean instrumental version of this song too
It was IDOL that got me into BTS, I just adore everything about this music, the meaning, the MV, the lyrics and the rythm, it's just awesome, love it so much!!!
The rabbit on the moon represents the play on words they always use in their songs, since rabbit in Korean = 토끼 we pronounce tokki = talking, in this part of the song they are saying: "keep talking about me"
Highly requesting you to react to their Live Performances of this song and many other songs! Especially at the MMAs! Also do react to the Explained Theory of IDOL from DKDKTV channel to understand the lyrics and meanings behind better! Looking forward to these.. We purple you!💜
I'm not a Korean myself but from what I've read online they've included so many traditional Korean elements in this song, from the lyrics to the beat/melody and also their outfits, which are traditional South Korea hanbok inspired. Please check out their live performance for this song as well (the 2018 MMA live)! The effort and thoughts that they put in each song and performance are just beyond.
In this they're embrasing their korean heritage and not apologising for anything they are, both as a group and as infividuals. You can't stop me loving myself! Love it! 🙏🇫🇮
I see nobody has answered your question, but yes the boys have one director that they always work with for all their videos, his name is Choi Yong Seok and his production company is called LUMPENS. The guy is a genious.
thank you for knowing BTS we ARMY's are grateful & blessed for the success that they have reached rn and I'm happy seeing your thoughtful reaction and comments about their music, production style. I'm loving your reactions it makes me happy and at the same time proud to our seven dorks. Wishing you a good luck and more followers/subscribers to come, as Park Jimin said "YOU GOOD KEEP GOIN'"💜
You're my new fav reactor now. I just love when you paused video, and shared your opinion. You really pay attention to these humble boys💜 can't wait to more BTS reaction. Welcome to fandom and be part of our family, i'm new army too
I am watching all your BTS reactions from the start and tbh I am enjoying this journey cuz it's been a while since I have watched some of the MVs so LET'S GET IT
If you haven't watched BTS's DOPE you should. It was my 1st song of theirs I saw and I haven't looked back. It's older but shows how far they have come and helps show their AMAZING talent even then. Also Louder then Bombs is a great one too.
Theres a rabbit in the moon. Yes, I mean they've been singing Tokki over and over in the song. Which means rabbit. Haha, you should check out the explanations of BTS MVs, because there is a lot to understand. It's basically a Korean mythos referring to there being a rabbit in the moon.
You were so excited that I was also very excited.(I've seen this music video a thousand times) Keep making BTS' reactions. Then have a nice weekend buddy.
the rabbit in the moon is an allusion to a chinese/korean folklore which you can search up on if you want to because it's difficult to go into detail lol. i know this only because i'm chinese, but i never knew that the koreans had their own version of the story too until i watched IDOL came out. and those massive dancing things are from korean lion dance, similar to what i have in my chinese culture too. i guess it's pretty cool to include so many korean references and instruments in this song because it's basically a celebration of who they are, as koreans and artists.
There is a “who is BTS” it’s half an hour long but it’s last updated in mid 2018 so lots of things happend since then but it’s a great start to know about the members
this song that made me Army .. I get goosebumps when I look at the lyrics, enjoy the music and my eyes are very fresh looking at the video ... everything I felt together when I first heard it That amazing..
The rabbit in the moon is a folkloric east asian legend, in which the rabbit is believed to be making an elisir of immortality for the moon goddess. In that scene they actually say "if you get cursed a lot, you live longer" referencing the tale! Fun fact: the way they say "talking, talking" actually sounds like 토끼 (tokki) which means rabbit in korean ^-^ i suggest u check out the explanation video by dkdktv, they can help u get all the cultural references
*Blood, sweat and tears* next, definitely 💜 Also, loved how you noticed those background instrumentals in chorus, not all reactors actually pay attention to that. Great reaction.
If you look in the description box of all their music videos, BTS/Bighit gives props to all the people who worked on the mv, including the position they took in creating it.
Idol is a very complex song. It looks like a game but it has many Korean symbols behind it. The song is a criticism of haters. You can criticize their videos, their music and their culture But they will continue making music and they will continue loving their country and their culture. You can call them Idols, the truth is that they don't care hahaha I love the lyrics, when I first heard it look for every word and every meaning. I really liked BTS because they compose their songs, they put their essence and they tell you what they think.
hey this is a little late in coming, but this song has a TON of references to traditional korean culture as im sure other comments have pointed out. one thing i didn't see was a mention about the rabbit on the moon! in lots of east asian cultures theres a traditional folklore about a mythical rabbit that lives on the moon which is why we saw it in the video as well. the more you know! (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moon_rabbit)
You keep mentioning that you love RM. Have you watch his speech at the UN to speak about their campaign to promote self love. BTS is so much more than just 7 boys who sings. The impact they have on all generations is admirable. BTS's songs talk about mental health, hate, self love, and social/political issues.
BTS together with their CEO and Artistic Directors plan their album concepts years in advance. Really. Their label was started with a vision in mind that's expressed in the logo: "Music and Artists for Healing". They all work together as a team to come up with what we see. Bighit was just named "World's most Innovative Company" in part for the meticulous planning and execution of their vision. I don't want to get into a solo fan battle, and I am not a solo fan, but I suspect a lot of the core theme ideas start with RM and Bang Si-hyuk, the CEO. But nobody really knows, not me that's for sure. So solos please don't come for me!
The sound effects in the lyrics come from korean traditional sound/music Idol is a great mix of many culture sounds/tradition(korean, African etc) mythology(the bunny on the moon) celebrating them all it's a beautiful song
I love the song, lyrics, and understand the significance of everything in the video, but I honestly love how the Idol MV is just a whole new level of crack
I hope he watched the MMA idol performance..... I CAN'T EXPLAIN... I'M RUNNING OUT OF WORDS.... HE FEELS LIKE MY BESTIE AT THIS POINT AND IT FEELS SO EXCITING TO WATCH HIM

Keep it up!
pls im crying i just love them and im so proud of them and happy that there are more people recognizing their art lmao why do i gotta be like that
Sameee
You're so open minded when it comes to BTS... It's sooo cool to see your reacts to them. They're one in a zillion.
This mv is actually their answer to criticisms etc. It features korean cultural elements too. Some of their steps are from their traditional dances.
Underrated comment. Lit 👍
not gonna lie, your reactions are probably my favourites because you really take each MV apart and your reactions are very genuine and honest.
Every Bts's MV has deep meaning
DOPE MV
NOT TODAY MV
FIRE MV
BLOOD SWEAT & TEARS MV
AND WHO IS BTS REACTION PLEASEEE! LOVE UR REACTION BTW💜
They actually combine Korean culture in this music video and music. You can see the temple, the flower, the tiger, and their clothes all features Korean culture. They are advertising their own culture, which is soooo cool
"oh my god, there's still a minute to go." I feel you, man. I had to hit my hype second wind when I first heard it.
They performed this live on the Jimmy Fallon show. That's how I was introduced to them and fell in love. You can see in a live performance how they have the exact same energy to sing and dance at the same time!
actually the members have meetings with their CEO and staffs where they decide on concepts and stuff
More than anything I’m thankful for your kind words towards bts
I just watch idol everytime i just need to remember to love myself... it's sooo meaninfull💜💜💜
The rabbit on the moon represents the play on words they always use in their songs, since rabbit in Korean = 토끼
we pronounce tokki = talking, in this part of the song they are saying: "keep talking about me"
Their well-established MV director is Lumpens. Genius.
all of bts mvs have explanations i swear these are very VERY deep videos they are not just about color and happiness
The effort and thoughts that they put in each song and performance are just beyond.
man you should see this in a concert it's soooo hype!
Dude i watched every bts reaction you did and i even waited for this thank yoooouuu
Thanks so much!! I hope you enjoy the ones to come!
Really love your video reactions!
After "Mic Drop" definitely "Blood sweat and tears", you won't regret it!
slowly watching him become an army. haha. love love love them and him
Your the best react to channel especially someone that supports BTS music like no other channel i've seen so far
In this they're embrasing their korean heritage and not apologising for anything they are, both as a group and as infividuals. You can't stop me loving myself! Love it! 🙏🇫🇮
I love seeing you enjoy Idol MV, you're all smiles as you watch and listen, seeing your reaction makes me happy
And thats how he became an army 💜💜
Blood sweat and tear. a MUST watch.
I see nobody has answered your question, but yes the boys have one director that they always work with for all their videos, his name is Choi Yong Seok and his production company is called LUMPENS. The guy is a genious.
Blood Sweat and Tears. thats a must watch
Save Me (great camera work)
spring day
Serendipity
Shadow: Interlude
thank you for knowing BTS we ARMY's are grateful & blessed for the success that they have reached rn and I'm happy seeing your thoughtful reaction and comments about their music, production style.
I’ll be uploading my reaction to DOPE tomorrow! :)
@@MrSammyCam Can't wait! Thanks
Theres a rabbit in the moon.
Yes, I mean they've been singing Tokki over and over in the song. Which means rabbit. Haha, you should check out the explanations of BTS MVs, because there is a lot to understand. It's basically a Korean mythos referring to there being a rabbit in the moon.
thanks for reacting to this btw! loved it
You were so excited that I was also very excited.(I've seen this music video a thousand times) Keep making BTS' reactions.
I get goosebumps when I look at the lyrics, enjoy the music and my eyes are very fresh looking at the video ... everything I felt together when I first heard it
That amazing..
Loving your reactions
*Blood, sweat and tears* next, definitely 💜
Also, loved how you noticed those background instrumentals in chorus, not all reactors actually pay attention to that. Great reaction.
Ive never see such great reactor but now, im watching you im so impress
I think this is the craziest bts mv so far with all the edition and that stuff 😂❤️
If you look in the description box of all their music videos, BTS/Bighit gives props to all the people who worked on the mv, including the position they took in creating it.
Blood Sweat and Tears and Spring Day will be right up your alley
Whenever he pauses to talk about how much there is to spot and discover, I want to tell him: just wait for it...!"😁
after all this BTS MV marathon. Can't wait to watch u reacting to their LIVE PERFORMANCE and some of their MV EXPLANATION 😍😍😍😍😍
My dude whipped for RM 🥺🥺💜
We all came here faster than suga s tounge TECHNOLOGY
So happy that baby army is being born😆💜 we purple you💜💜💜💜
You REALLY need to watch the live performance of this from the 2018 MAMA’s. It was absolutely mind blowing.
Idol is a very complex song. It looks like a game but it has many Korean symbols behind it. The song is a criticism of haters. You can criticize their videos, their music and their culture But they will continue making music and they will continue loving their country and their culture. You can call them Idols, the truth is that they don't care hahaha
I love the lyrics, when I first heard it look for every word and every meaning.
"The truth untold" will make you cry .....promise
Oh my god man, i love you reactions! 😂👌🏻
Seriously this guy deserves to be subscribed, this is the most honest reaction i have ever seen to bts , Armys I swear ya all better subscribe,
Aw thanks so much!!
their hard work deserve all the admiration
You should definitely check out their live performances ... mic drop with dance break, idol and the other songs. They’re so damn great on stage
You keep mentioning that you love RM. Have you watch his speech at the UN to speak about their campaign to promote self love. BTS is so much more than just 7 boys who sings. The impact they have on all generations is admirable. BTS's songs talk about mental health, hate, self love, and social/political issues.
0:35 if they all subscribed you be in 20k now.... PROUD OF YOUUUU ♥️ YOUR GROWING FAST AS LIGHT ♥️♥️♥️♥️
Just found your channel today, really enjoyed the reactions.... looking forward to more!
The sound effects in the lyrics come from korean traditional sound/music
Idol is a great mix of many culture sounds/tradition(korean, African etc) mythology(the bunny on the moon) celebrating them all it's a beautiful song
Dude. This song in concert was amazing
Mrsammycam old reactions are gold✨
I'm totally don't understand why your eyes are very thorough, i'm really jealous now ❤❤❤✨✨
A great album to react to is the Love Yourself: Tear as it shows you just hiw versatile BTS can be as artists 💖 Fake Love is its lead single
