Have you guys ever thought about tracing your history back? I'm guessing 300 or 400 years ago your ancestors came from Europe! Would be cool if they came from the UK lol
Eynesford to Lullingstone. Best village, packs a lot in, a Weir, Norman Church, Bird of Prey Centre, Roman Villa, Castle, Manor House, World Garden, riverside walk, Viaduct, country park, lavender fields, and it's less than half an hour from London on the train!
I can attest that outside Kent no one has heard of Gyspy tart lol. It's not like Bakewell tarts or Eccles cakes ie regional desserts that are known across England. It is very much kent only
So glad you tried gypsy tart! It’s actually made from whisking evaporated milk with soft brown sugar and then once it’s fluffed up you pour in a pastry case and cook in the oven for about 15-20 mins! It’s actually really easy to make and yes it’s hard to Place the flavour it’s definitely toffee or caramel and reminiscent of coffee too. I feel that the texture is light and airy almost moose like, glad you liked it though 😁
Shepherd Neame Brewery in Faversham is the oldest in the UK still operating, est. 1698, its mostly known for its IPAs like Spitfire and Masterbrew and is the main supplier to most of the Pubs in that part of Kent. Gypsy Tart is something we got in Primary School for pudding and is an acquired taste which I don't have ;), its mostly a mix of milk and brown sugar, which gives it the toffee taste.
Enjoyed the video. Gotta laugh about the oyster crisps: 'not as offensive as I thought they would be' 😊 Quite a fleeting glimpse of Kent. The gypsy tart looked interesting - don’t remember having seen those before.
I know all of those places! Just up the road from me. Im in Ramsgate. There is so much to see and do in Kent. You should also visit... Rochester Ramsgate and Broadstairs Folkestone and Hythe
I purchase a lot of my clothes from Tesco and Sainsbury's - it's so easy to browse and buy when food shopping. My maternal family originates from Eynesford/Farningham in Kent and I've never visited.
I'm from Margate in Kent and we used to get gypsy tart for desert at school with a slice of apple. Can't eat it anymore because of bad memories Good to see you had a good time in Kent. Danny
Two places you have to check out in Kent are Dover Castle as it is the most iconic castle in the UK because it signifies a thousand yrs of defence within the British Isles. The next stop you have to check out in Kent is Chartwell House in Chartwell Kent. This is the family house of Sir Winston Churchil former Prime Minister of Great Britain Another thing to try is a drink called Mead it is a honey flavoured fortified wine
Marmite peanut butter! As much as I like Marmite I think I will give that a miss. LOL. There are beautiful National Trust properties in Kent and lovely gardens. Whitstable is famous for Charles Dickens as well. Not sure you saw the best of the county there. Need to do a bit more exploring.
Lovely to see a bit of representation for my home county! Having said that I've never heard of the chocolate brand, or the crisp flavour! I would definitely not have stayed in Dover - a trip to the castle to see the lighthouse and the white cliffs yes, but staying in the town no!
Just a heads up. the vinegar with which we douse our chips in fish and chip shops isn’t actually vinegar. it is actually just called a non brewed condiment. I worked in a chippy as a lad.
I'm from Margate originally but now live up north in Nottinghamshire. I cannot anywhere get a gypsy tart here. Its one of the many things I miss so whenever family visit they always have to bring up some. Also big thanks for all your great videos.
Dovorian here. The Museum you could see from your AirB'n'B is worth going around - they have a stuffed polar bear and the bronze age boat. The Roman Painted House is also well worth a visit - there is a real in-situ Roman building in the basement with wall-paintings. Gypsy tart is foul - they tried to feed it to us all the time at school.
I'm glad you got to try Kent Crisps, I love those! The roast beef ones are my favourites. If you're ever back in Kent again, I def recommend checking out Rochester. It has a Norman castle and cathedral, a free museum about the local area (the Guildhall Museum), and England's biggest second-hand bookshop, Baggins!
Faversham his really lovely. I live in Kent so its great watching your post. I really enjoy your videos. Next time your here please visit Rochester and Tunbridge Wells - they are very nice places.
British tourism at its finest. Popping outside for a brisk 5 minutes, before retiring to the pub / cafe / eatery with everyone else to sit out the howling gale.
You wana go coventry, 2 cathedrals , the story of lady govida, a roman lunt Fort, 2 of the fastest cars in the world in the motor museum. All so have Warwick and Stratford upon Avon not far away
Hi guys, kettle crisps do some nice flavours I only buy from morrisons when they are on offer usually half price, one of my particular favourites is walkers prawn cocktail flavour. A heads up avoid those new multi grain pringles there awful might be better off taking with some sought of dips. McCoy's crinkle crisps are nice. In the 1990s twiglets did a lovely tangey flavour, since discontinued, avoid the original twiglets. I tell you what else I like salt & vinegar flavour kp nuts blue bag that seals. Turnocks caramel bars pack of eight most supermarkets lovely. Chocolate hobnobs nice.
Hi guys I liked your video shame about the weather how ironic my antie Cath sent me a photo of me my older sister father, antie pat & her daughter inside Dover Castle from the early 1970s. I was there stopping with antie pat who lived in the centre of Canterbury. The photo was probably taken before my youngest brother was even born & he's just turned 52 I remember it as if it was yesterday, I seemed to think it was a similar time I went to Jersey twice in close succession happy days.
Gypsy tart is evaporated milk and dark brown sugar. We where brought up on it. Better than birthday cake. You came to Faversham but never went to Makenade farm shop? People come from all over the country by coach to visit the farm shop. I thought you might have been there. If you come back you should check out the town too.
Love your posts. Dover is the closest place in England to France and during WW2 German long range guns could hit it from France. It is also the place where the worlds oldest ever boat wad discovered in the mud when expanding the harbour,
Hey Cara and Jeremy, I just finished watching your video of KENT What tasty treats treats and I love it!😍 I thought Belinda was a beautiful unique attraction, the castle on the hill was breathtaking, the overall views were picturesque. Most of all, your background musicals were vibing!!!!!!🤗 Oh, I almost forgot, watching your videos has inspired me to want try some of the foods from the U.K!
That Tesco was in Whitfield, not in Dover, and we often have a meal in there when taking our daughter there to get pet supplies and shopping. Americans often comment that the UK has good bus transportation, but these have been cancelled in the nearby viĺlage where she lives and the replacement on demand minibus service is very hard to book. Local councils are so lacking cash they can no longer afford to subsidise as many routs as they used to.
Okay, so you've come to enjoy vinegar on your chips... Do you like onions? If you buy yourselves a jar of pickled onions they're great, but wait there's more. Don't throw away the left over "juice" in the empty pickled onion jar. Put it into a vinegar bottle and put that on your chips!!! I enjoy malt vinegar on fish and chips, but the pickled onion vinegar give it a just a little bit more. Love your videos. It's nice to see parts of my home that I haven't seen for many a year. Mark
Please come back in the summer. While great weather here is never guaranteed the odds are obviously much, much higher in the summer months. As much as I've enjoyed your videos I've felt sorry for you braving the elements in each of them 🤣
You didn't really spend enough time to see important places, and also that would give the weather a chance to improve (which it always does, provided you're not in a great hurry). For example, the castle - the best thing about the castle is INSIDE. And as an extra bonus, you can see right across the sea to France with the naked eye. If you're using binoculars, you can even see the houses.!!! Imagine going to the States for a couple of days, and it happens to be raining the day I arrive. Wouldn't be worth the air fare.
Did you try the Marmite peanut butter in the end, if so what did you think? Even tho I like Marmite & peanut butter I’m not keen on this. I also don’t like anything crunchy like this, as it makes me cough.
No mention of huffkins or wine. Biggest fort was behind you, built into the cliffs behind you on sea front. Surprised you went to Tesco with a McDonald's nearby.
Regarding the marmite peanut butter. I like both ingredients so gave it a try recently. It found it okay but too much marmite which made it very salty. You are better off buying a jar or each and mixing it yourself to your own taste.
Kent is a lovely county to explore. But who recommended staying in Dover?? Oh dear! I think you summed up Dover, when you decided to up and leave🤣 Like it’s neighbour Folkestone, it’s very rundown.
Have you figured out where in USA you're going to live long term? We're in Seattle area and looking to move someplace warmer & sunnier. We stayed in Tampa area for a month last year and decided against moving to Florida.
for a start, scones are scottish (check scone palace) and its pronounced Scone (like gone) unless you mean the place, at which its "Skoon" like moon. if anybody says scone like bone, they are untrustworthy (so it says on the road to Scone)
I love marmite peanut butter but smooth not crunchy, it reminds me of dry roasted peanuts, heyyyyy JJ ex, just love those guys. Can’t wait to see your next adventures 😊 & just one thing, Cara, please stop talking with your hand and fingers soooooo off putting lol 😉 xx
I remember Sorted Food highlighting Gypsy Tart's not too long ago, they decided it was something that we should keep only in the UK - that being said you are welcome to all the Marmite Peanut Butter you can transport back to the USA... please... seriously buy the entire UK supply and rid of the stuff... pretty please? We'll throw in a pack of of tarts if that helps convince you?
Omg I do so agree with the marmite thing absolutely vile. My mum used to put it in sandwiches. Yuk. Haven't been near it my entire adult life, now 60. Gypsy tart though delicious at school, massive tins of the stuff with lovely crispy pastry, made yr Teeth itch from the amount of sugar😁😁😁
Never had a gypsy tart manufacturer that’s as good mums ( they always F up on the pastry) Shame your on your way elsewhere I’ve been watching your stuff for a while and I’m stalling out at next Sundays faversham flee market, p.s. lots of better KENT places that are underrated and not travel guided .👍😂.

Next time don't forget the county town of Kent, Maidstone. Also gypsy toast and Kentish cider.
I was born in Kent and lived there most of my life. We often had gypsy tart at school served with an apple. Was one of my favourite desserts x
Gypsy tart is fantastic, but pure sugar 😂
Eynesford to Lullingstone. Best village, packs a lot in, a Weir, Norman Church, Bird of Prey Centre, Roman Villa, Castle, Manor House, World Garden, riverside walk, Viaduct, country park, lavender fields, and it's less than half an hour from London on the train!
Broadstairs in Kent is a beautiful town with sandy beaches, victorian style 😎 👌
Gypsy tart was made as a cheap easy food to make for the impoverished. It originates from the Isle of Sheppey.
I didn't know that.
I'm from Sheppey and remember Gypsy tart from school dinners. I think everyone loved it back then..
I can attest that outside Kent no one has heard of Gyspy tart lol. It's not like Bakewell tarts or Eccles cakes ie regional desserts that are known across England. It is very much kent only
So glad you enjoyed our chocs and some of the great things Kent has to offer 🍫💜 happy travelling!
So glad you tried gypsy tart! It’s actually made from whisking evaporated milk with soft brown sugar and then once it’s fluffed up you pour in a pastry case and cook in the oven for about 15-20 mins! Try banoffee pie - made with caramelised condensed milk, bananas and cream on a digestive biscuit base.
Don't go to the Isle Of Sheppey, If you've ever seen "The Hills Have Eye's" ... Well it was based on a Caravaning holiday to Leysdown in the 1970's
This feels like way too long ago, we miss you guys! Sorry about the weather but we are sooo happy you enjoyed the gypsy tart 💙
Looks like they visited in the winter so it's to he expected.

If you're ever on the east coast I would suggest visiting southwold or aldeburgh. You wont regret it.
I know all of those places!
Just up the road from me.
Im in Ramsgate.
There is so much to see and do in Kent.
You should also visit...
Rochester
Ramsgate and Broadstairs
Folkestone and Hythe

Welcome to the garden of England guys. Enjoy our beautiful countryside and history x
I'm from Margate in Kent and we used to get gypsy tart for desert at school with a slice of apple.
Can't eat it anymore because of bad memories
Good to see you had a good time in Kent.
Danny
Same here at school at home was part of life 💯
Yup, I went to Primary School in St Peters, Broadstairs. Gypsy Tart and half an apple.
Yep, Gypsy Tart - Garlinge Juniors.
There is sooo much more in Kent than what you guys got to see , maybe next time ☺️🙂🖐️🇬🇧
As long as they avoid Medway
Two places you have to check out in Kent are Dover Castle as it is the most iconic castle in the UK because it signifies a thousand yrs of defence within the British Isles.

Yes and the artist J.M.W.Turner.

They have the roughest wetherspoons in the UK 😃. I'm from Ramsgate and I agree I wouldn't have recommended Dover to stay 👍
Just a heads up. the vinegar with which we douse our chips in fish and chip shops isn’t actually vinegar. it is actually just called a non brewed condiment. I worked in a chippy as a lad.
If you get the chance come down to Hastings. You've just missed the UK's largest Mardi Gras celebrations but it's still a fun place to visit.
Wow, Kent. Such a beautiful Tesco.
I'm from Margate originally but now live up north in Nottinghamshire. I cannot anywhere get a gypsy tart here. Its one of the many things I miss so whenever family visit they always have to bring up some. Also big thanks for all your great videos.
Yea you made it to kent! Gypsy tart was my most fave for school dinners back in the seventies😊😊😊
Rochester and Canterbury are well worth a visit. Rochester castle is well worth walking around 👍🏻
Anywhere in Medway is disgusting lol
Canterbury is sadly not what it was. Looking very depressed and sorry for itself last time I went.😢
My Mum is from Kent and I have family living there still. It’s a lovely county!
Yessss. Just the episode I was waiting for! My nan used to make us Gypsy tart. Made your teeth hurt it was so sugary but I loooooved it.
My part of the world!!! I'm in Sittingbourne.
I'm glad you got to try Kent Crisps, I love those! The roast beef ones are my favourites. If you're ever back in Kent again, I def recommend checking out Rochester. Nha, I would tell them to avoid Medway
Go to Colchester in Essex they have a Roman castle with museum inside and it was the Roman capital of the Uk
Is Folkestone on your destination itinerary? My hometown - it's lovely!
British tourism at its finest. Popping outside for a brisk 5 minutes, before retiring to the pub / cafe / eatery with everyone else to sit out the howling gale.
I'm excited to finally see Kent this summer! Thanks for showing us some fun foods to try! I'm all about MOREISH! 😂
Don't forget to go to Maidstone the county town. Inducing Leeds castle and all saints church which has a memorial to George Washington uncle.
You wana go coventry, 2 cathedrals , the story of lady govida, a roman lunt Fort, 2 of the fastest cars in the world in the motor museum. All so have Warwick and Stratford upon Avon not far away

Being at the seaside you should try some cockles with malt vinegar, you might not love them though!
Jellied eels
As a Dover person, I can say you can't get them here. We are cockle-less.
I'm from Deal it's cool seeing you look round Kent :)
If you boil condensed milk for a while it pretty much turns into toffee. Its very sweet. Its how you make the toffee part of banoffee pie
Have you tried mint sauce (more vinegar) with roast lamb, yet? Some from the US seem to get freaked out by the thought of mint with savoury things.
Love your posts. Dover is the closest place in England to France and during WW2 German long range guns could hit it from France. It is also the place where the worlds oldest ever boat wad discovered in the mud when expanding the harbour,

Love you guys BUT really disappointed you did only one day in Wales and weeks in England, you missed so much.
Ooooh halloumi burger 🍔... been missing those!
Id like to think Kent is pretty well known for its cider! You often see Kentish cider in supermarkets

You should visit the ice cream shop in Broadstairs 🍦
im from Kent and of all the interesting and historic places in Kent, you went to dingy Dover.. omg its so awful there!!!
So you’ve seen a lot of the UK, if you decided to stay here where would you like to live??
The garden of England. Or more like the back yard these days.
Still beautiful villages though. But Canterbury, what happened? It looks like barely any money has been spent on it for years.
Regarding the marmite peanut butter. I like both ingredients so gave it a try recently. It found it okay but too much marmite which made it very salty. You are better off buying a jar or each and mixing it yourself to your own taste.

Fun fact: Shepherds neame (faversham brewery) is the oldest in England. 🤔🇬🇧🇺🇸💜
A shame the beer is do poor!!

Go to Colchester Britain’s oldest recorded town and the Roman capital
Belinda needs to go for a Bra fitting!
Never heard of Gypsy tart and I’ve lived in the North south east and west of U.K.
OK, I'm off to kent. 😋
It's been a while since I've heard it called the Chunnel 😆
Nice video
You should visit Southampton
wow, did you really not go in to Dover castle, you really missed out
Didyou go into Dover Castle its great
We didn't this time, but hopefully we'll get to in the future.
It might not have been open - it is seasonal and they close off the keep in high winds. 🌬
I have a boat in gillingham marina, Kent and live in erith, kent. Would like to have met up

go to canterbury!
They uploaded a Canterbury video 7 days ago 😅
I like the comment that the Gypsy tart is almost Moose like Denise? Does this mean its furry and has antlers sticking out?
Never had a gypsy tart manufacturer that’s as good mums ( they always F up on the pastry) Shame your on your way elsewhere I’ve been watching your stuff for a while and I’m stalling out at next Sundays faversham flee market, p.s. lots of better KENT places that are underrated and not travel guided .👍😂.
i believe they pronounce it Kunt the u is silent
I lived in Faversham for a few years and have a soft spot for the place, Abbey Street is one of the most architecturally diverse streets in the country.
Shepherd Neame (aka Sheps, or Sh*t and Scream) was founded in 1698, and they still haven't worked out how to make decent beer.
Dover isn't the most inspiring town on earth, but the castle is something else.
Broadstairs, Whitstable, Tenterden, Folkestone and Sandwich are all worth a visit, but so many places, so little time!
Do you live in England?
A place where people don't grow up, they go off.
#Jamfirst
Men of Kent lick-spittles.
Kent is just suburban London for the most part and is poorer by the day (sadly). It shouldn't be.
Southern England is very generic. Feels like all the ‘history’ was stripped out or never existed.
Might be slightly biased because I’m a northerner.
You obviously don’t know much about the area 😂😂
What?? Have you heard of Bath, Cambridge, Winchester, Oxford, Stonehenge etc?
Oh dear 🤦🏻♂️
Nah the N word is not a word you should be using (it’s 2023 ffs)
