Omg, silent night sounds so pretty on the stalag pipes, I love hymns anyway but this….. I have no words for how beautiful this song is in general, but it sounds almost divine on the stalag pipes.

I am a native american, I reside in Nothern Virginia, My ancestors come from Luray Virginia, Many still reside in the area, a few on the property of the caverns themselves. We are the forgotten people, the overseers, of this magnificent cave. We are rarely mentioned, we are completely excluded from the caverns history as it was " Discovered" by Caucasians. We have stories of what the caverns were to our people before they were confiscated. Feel free to ask me any questions about this wonderful phenomena - I would like to personally thank whomever created this composition and bringing the caverns music to the general population.

      Amazing...well okay:
@Everett Eberhardt: What, actually, are we hearing here? How does it work? Is there any sort of engineering to it? Is it/can it be "played"? Can it play anything else?

No'tur Beeswax It’s a really fascinating instrument. What you’re hearing is the sound created when solenoid-fired strikers hit certain stalactites and stalagmites, causing them to vibrate and create a sound. Each stalactite and stalagmite were carefully chosen, and i think some were shaped, to produce a sound of the right note. And each solenoid is wired to a key on the organ, so yes, it can actually be played like a regular organ.

@@axeman1314 So it's not just a cave formation (all-natural or sculpted), there's a machine rigged up in there that I'm not seeing in the photo (such as it is)?

No'tur Beeswax Right. I think the whole thing takes up 3.5 acres roughly, making it the world’s largest instrument.
