Played with Freddy in Germang, after his solo, it was my turn to play, I was nervous as heck. what can you play, after Freddy does his thing? Thanks Freddy for Tolerating me and giving me those pointers. Much respect my friend
What a nice atmosphere! It's always good to see greats play with local musicians; there's no competition; there's just a friendly conversation in a common language, whether it's in Budapest or wherever. And great audience, too. Thanks for posting this, jazz957. It's a gem.
Man. Freddie is a class act here. I like how he's supportive of the other musicians. I was fortunate to see him this very same year, 1987, in Ft. Worth, and we all got to party in the green room. Freddie loved his "Yack" as he called it (cognac). What a beautiful person he was!
Sometimes great musicians play with more ease and more beautifully in informal gathering such as this one than with all-star group at a big concert or festival. This is one of these times. Freddie plays beautifully and gives his best and the people love him for that.
Love his triplets and slurs - what artistry with his rapid fire notes. he will be remembered always by many of us. Too bad he was taken from us so soon.
Yo check out the difference in breath intake alone !!! Smh I hate it when “jazzers” try to play it cool but in turn have shallow breaths 🤦🏽 I used to do that too lol

This is not really a ballad, it's a slow swing groove, about the same tempo that Cannonball recorded it Miles on Somethin' Else. A master jazz artist, and most accomplished jazz musicians can play ballads, med tempos, up tempos, blues etc, that's all part of it. Glad you enjoyed Freddie, he was a true master and one of the most important jazz soloists of jazz history.

He played so open and warm sound. No one played flugelhorn like Freddy

How about that intro that his solo! Killer!! He will be missed!!
Thanks for adding this. Im glad there are videos like this. Preserves the Music. Freddie is Badass.
I've watched all of Freddie Hubbard's performances on Flugelhorn...they are amazing...the only person who comes close is Ack Van Rooyen....
Fabuloso Freddie Hubbard e excelentes músicos ! Isto é que é jazz ! Muito improviso......Super admirável !
To think this incredible performance could have been lost for all time. Luckily Freddie is good enough for someone to have brought a video camera
What a true jazz feeling! What a night!
This is just so great :)..it left me smiling and made wanna pick my horn lol
freddie's preaching and representing!
Another one of those nights when you wish you had been there.
Damn Freddie!!!!! Killin it
FREDDIE!!!!
MY GOSH!!!!.....
Freddie's smokin'! The other guy's no slouch either! :-)
You just get the sense that the guy standing to Hubbard's left is saying to himself, "there's nowhere I'd rather be than right here, right now."
Gracias Freddie. Todos tus alumnos te vamos a recordar por siempre

The GOAT.... Still the standard barer for modern jazz trumpet

Why is the other person playing trumpet -over Freddie’ s head? Strange idea. Odd indeed.
Sounds like they borrowed Ahmad Jamal's intro theme, the ostinato bass.
I knew he could rip on bebop, post-bop, and free, but I didn't know he could get really expressive on ballads. He is a huge musical loss.
Listen to him play, "Here's That Rainy Day". I think you'll enjoy it.
They are a pretty wild bunch there! I bet it's the only time Hubbs played in a Dixieland club! Very good and not just the guest star.
Freddy has a dixieland album bro lol!!!
How could anyone not like this?
Самый Ахуенный ТРУБАЧ !!!
Anyone else notice Freddie at 1:44 plays low E with just third valve just because?
I think that a low E is more in tune with the third valve than 1-2 on the flugelhorn (sorry for my english!!)
@@lecookin8009 yeah, I bet that’s it. I just noticed he does it with the A too. Wow coming back to this video after after two years
