@@Greentgarden so this morning I saw two or three that overnight grew what looks like a zucchini but it’s probably about an inch or two max. They grew literally the two days after I trimmed off the males. Will those open tomorrow or can I open them myself
I will have to give it a try. I grew some zucchini & pumpkin last year and had pretty good luck by itself here in Lower texas. The only problem I ran into were the squash Beatles. There were really hard to keep up with.
Yea those are tough to get rid of ... I was using neem oil spray, it works for a while ..... I have bees here but I still hand pollinate some fruit to be safe .. thanks for watching
Thanks! I'm growing my zucchinis indoors and on my deck for the first time and will make sure I do this. Should we wait until they grow this big? Mine are barely bigger than a few grains of rice currently.
Question. Can I use my zuccini males to pollinate my prolific straight neck squash? I have males on one plant and females flowering on the other. Can I do that?
Absolutely! ! Many times I cross pollinate and it works .. I did zucchini with squash and it works.. You could even cross pollinate with pumpkin and squash
OK so you're the only person I feel like I can come to with these questions now, sorry if I'm blowing you up. So I pollinated my zuccini, I got a good amount of pollen in there. I'd really like you to make a video on the "in between" stage. The flower is withering, and it's about to fall off I think. But it's all dark and ugly? Is this normal? I know I have to wait until it matures a bit, but I'd like to see yours before the flower comes off in comparison (or you could just reply back here, "before flower falls off female plant is it OK to be brown and icky looking on the inside/outside of the flower?") Thanks in advance you rock!
I don't mind you asking at all ! It's not normal for your flowers to be dark and ugly lol sorry about that ... That could be Blossom-end rot is caused by a lack of calcium in the developing fruit.. ( add fertilizer and calcium) If your fruit does not grow the next two three days , and it's turning yellow or rotten, then definitely at calcium and organic fertilizer to help the plant .. keep me posted 🙏🏾🌱.. I will double check in my garden tomorrow and see if I could do quick shorts for all my flowers for my zucchini plants ..
Good Evening Mr Green T. Question, on my Yello squash plant, It finally has a Female flower bud, plenty of male flowers. After the female flower bud forms, how long does it usually take for the female flower to open, to hand pollinate??
So it takes about 3-7 days depends on the weather.. You could always cut off one of the male flowers that has pollen inside. Put it in Ziploc bag and keep it in the fridge for a backup.. That move fertilizes the female flower too
Thank You Sir!! I now have a little paint brush and , IMPATIENTLY WAITING For a female to open. Thank You so Much for all Your HELP, and answering all My silly questions. Have a Wonderful Blessed Rest of the week!! ⚘️❤️🌽🥔🥦🍅👍🥒🥑
@Greentgarden I was just stating that I break off the male flowers and peel the petals back, and pollinate the females that way. I tried to edit the comment, and it said error. Refreshed, and it was gone. I thought maybe you had deleted it for whatever reason.
I already had 3 female flowers but no opened male flowers yet across 4 plants. I see two male flowers now that are turning gold so I would think they will open tomorrow or the day after. Is it ok to open the male flower so I can try pollinate the female flowers that opened or better wait? And what about the female flowers and fruits that aren’t pollinated.. should I cut them off or can I still try to pollinate in a few days?
I am sorry to hear that these flowers not opening at the same time could be very stressful.. I would not recommend opening any male flowers cuz the pollen will not be strong or sometimes if it's too early they won't even be any pollen... Unfortunately the female flowers that did not get pollinated they will turn yellow or soft. It's best you cut them out and remove them . You could also prune out two to three lower leaves. Make sure you're fertilizing every 2 weeks. Pruning will help speed up the growing process and fertilizer will keep it healthy ..
@@Greentgardenthanks for your reply! Today three male flowers opened. I still tried to pollinate the female flowers although they opened yesterday or the day before. Not sure if the window has passed. I think from now on it will be more consistent. I’ve been fertilising every two weeks and the plants are healthy but unfortunately the weather has not been good. Not a lot of sun and rain/wind here in The Netherlands. Let’s hope they will still develop some fruits!
Oh so sorry... With a lot of rain and clouds will definitely affect the plants , normally the plants like about at least 8 to 10 hours of sunlight.. keep doing the good work. Give it some time and your plants will do much better.. Have a wonderful weekend 🌱
Oh sorry... If you have another squash or zucchini plants you could cross Pollinate.. If not only thing you could do is to prune the plant removing two to three lower leaves and this would help speed up the growing process. Bring it in male flowers.. unfortunately after that is just time.. sorry It happens to all of us
Oh so sorry... This year I find it that most people plants produce all females. First last year was all male first. It's so strange.. The only thing you could do is try to cross pollinate from any squashers. We can eat plants if not you just have to wait it out. Do some light pruning. Sorry
flowers not opening can be a sign of stress .. could be lack of nutrition , water in balance, bugs attack like squash fine borders.. And if it doesn't open it will fall off .. Try to increase the fertilizer and calcium .. and water every two to three days
For the first time ever today i finally have a male and a female flowers open at the same time from a single plant, so i went and joined them in marriage ❤ My question is... how long approximately does it take from this stage until its big enough to harvest?

Awesome! Thank you

A pipe cleaner works too if you don't have a paint brush to swab the pollen and transfer it to the female flower.
Thank you so much for sharing this with us. I always appreciate good garden tips.. Have a wonderful day 🌱
Keep up the great work love the gardening videos and Is it good to use Grass and weeds if you pull or cut them and use them as mulch for plants 🪴
Yes, absolutely... And thank you so much 💯🌱🙏🏾
